January 4th: Guylian Praline Truffle Bar

*UPDATE 18/08/2010 - It's funny looking back at one of my first reviews ever. I have now updated the photos with the latest version.

Kcal 211 Fat 13.2g Carbs 202.2g

This bar came seperated as four blocks and came billed as 'Belgian chocolate with the traditional Guylian seashells on top full of creamy praline flavoured truffle'. I have always been a big fan of Guylian seashell truffles, so I was looking forward to seeing what this bar format could offer.

Aesthetically I thought the bar format looked just as smart as the individual truffles, with that glorious Guylian marble effect still incorporated to great effect across the seashell shapes placed on top.

Taste wise it was absolutely delicious and the chocolate was of a great quality for a bar of such little expense. The praline flavour was strong, but not overpowering and provided a nice smooth creamy nutty taste that had firm woody hazelnut tones. The size of the bar was the only disappointment (40g) for me. The four blocks were finished before I knew - the fast paced melt certainly didn't help matters. As much as I enjoyed the taste I was still left quite hungry after eating this bar, it certainly wasn't the most filling.

Overall I would recommend this to anyone who likes the original Guylain Seashells. If I was buying to consumer 'in home' then I would still choose the standard truffles, but this bar provides a very good opportunity to enjoy the Guylian praline experience on the move. I would definitely buy it again.

I thought this was absolutely delicious. I must agree though, it wasn't a particularly filling bar and the fact that it was divided into 4 blocks only made it feel smaller.
Still, referring to what I said before, it was an absolutely fantastic tasting bar.
Nice one Jim.

God what an awful review!! This was back when I was merely writing taste notes for fun in a notepad document! Tommorrow I may well go through some of my early reviews and tart them up a bit!!

Guylian certainly do nice praline bars, though I can't say I have had one for a long time.

Cheers for reminding me I have to tidy this all up!

Cheers
Jim

Lol
I was honestly thinking that!
I didn't want to be disrespectful though :P
It'd be really cool if you did a few revisits; lol, you may find you like some a bit more or less than last time, I'm almost certain that after all the chocolate you've had, your standards would have been raised, and the scoring may be totally different.
(It also might give you a chance to retry some of the bars you really enjoyed)
Nice one Jim.

I had a completely different experience with this bar.

I love Guylian seashells, so when I saw it in bar form, I was equally as excited about trying it. When I unwrapped it though, I was really let down. It did not have that glossy sheen to it, but looked dark and dusty. Then when I bit into it, I found it very chalky. The Guylian taste was still there, but it was completely ruined by the horrible texture.

I don't know if I got a dud or something, because the picture of the bar you took look nice and shiny.
