Two reviews in a day again?!! Uh oh this isnt getting to be a good habit :D Similar to yesterday the munchies hit me mid afternoon and I needed a sweet little snack...cue the Cadburys Fudge bar.
Its size and shape its very similar to the chomp I reviewed yesterday. The bar weighs a meager 25g and comes in the form of a long thin smooth bar, about the same size as a Chomp but a little thicker.
The bar has a centre of soft fudge coated in a very thin layer of Cadburys Dairy Milk and came in a nice looking orange and purple wrapper.
Despite putting the bar in the fridge for a good hour the bar was still suprising soft when I came to eat it - this bar in texture was certainly alot less chewy that the Chomp bar I reviewed yesterday and the fudge centre offered very little resistance against my bite.
Taste wise the fudge is very sweet - this is not surprising obviously with it being fudge and mostly made of sugar but what I'm trying to get at is that it didn't have a particularly distinct creamy fudge taste that you might wish. The chocolate layer is alot thinner than in comparison with the Chomp and for this reason you don't really get the Dairy Milk taste come through; the sugary fudge is certainly the dominant flavour.
Overall this again did a job in providing a nice snack sized treat between meals, but it lacked the fulfilling feeling you want to get from a chocolate bar. In terms of how it could be improved I would suggest Cadburys enlarge the size of the bar by adding far more Dairy Milk Chocolate..I think a thickish layer of hard chocolate against the soft fudge layer could be a real winner if proportioned correctly.

Scots rool.......
Yummy fudge is mmmmmm.........I wish it was a wee bit bigger tho'.
I have to ask you Jim.....are you very fat - do you have all your own teeth? :D
Uh huh once again I just dont quite understand why Cadburys dont do this in a larger version aswell as the snack sized :S :S
As for me being fat - im actually quite the opposite. Im a bit of a skinny bastard. These chocolate bars aside each day I actually eat a really good diet...these are the only treat things I really have a day! :D
Lets just waite until I have been doing this 6 months though. Haha will be intresting to see if I have put weight on
Ahhh.. a finger of Fudge. A sweet little bar, though I agree about the chocolate layer being too thin now you point it out, its always been a small bar at a cheap price. Still nice though.
Theres no doubt that if this bar was manufactured in a bigger variant it would be stupidly popular.
The fudge quality isnt all that bad for something so cheap.
Come on Cadburys sort this out!
its probably samll due to it being aimed at children - the old ad used to go 'a finger of fudge is just enough, to give your kids a treat'. i do like them though and would quite happily eata bigger bar lol. not sure about the comparison to a chomp tho - chomps are toffee and are flat and chewy whereas fudge is soft and in a finger lol
keep up the good work tho jim, love the site and its interesting to see bars id never heard of before lol
Alan thanks for the kind words on the site my man!!
The reason I compard it with the chomp is that its such a similar proposition price wise. They are both cheap alternatives (about 15p each) so when people come to choosing in a shop its often either/or in regards to the fudge or the chomp ... I hope that makes sense.
As I have said about this bar would benefit from being like two/three times bigger!
I have really enjoyed reading your contributions over the last few days! Thanks :D
Jim
Hi Jim,
thank you, ive enjoyed contributing.
Yes I see where you are coming from with the chomp/fudge comaprison price wise, its very true. its funny though, i often find the very chewy caramel/toffee tends to lack taste whereas fudge often tends to be more flavoursome although this may be just me lol i was thinking about chocolate bars that have dissappeared and remembered Cadburys Fuse. I used to love these!
Alan
Alan Good stuff I hope you contine to add your views as you make your way through the archive.
Oh man dont talk to me about the Fuse - it was one of my all time fave bars as a kid! Im still getting over its dismissal from distribution! lets hope it makes a Wispa-like stab back into distribution.
Thanks again
Jim
Lol mine too, i still miss them - its funny but i miss, remember and like many cadbury bars but tend to be a bit indifferent to many Nestle bars - not sure why this is.
I'm not sure why they discontinued the Fuse, i read in their blurb somewhere it was one of the best selling and mostpopular launches ever. Very odd lol we shoudl start a petition - they know it works so ya never know lol
Alan
Alan Cadbury bars in my opinion are far more distinctive in their taste. Just the way the chocolate is I guess.
I would start a petition but what with the endless number of relaunches they are having on the WISPA it looks a waste of time :(
Sad huh!? Fingers crossed!
Jim
lol i was in the supermarket yesterday and spotted the fudges - with 15p clearly printed on the end of the wrapper - i look down and see on the shelf label 18p! not quite sure how they work that out, if the wrapper says 15p how can they try and charge 18p lol - i tested it out and they pt it through at 18p - i was like errm...it says 15p on there! they refunded me the difference - theyre sneaky arent they! lol
cheers
alan
Alan Supermarket are not allowed to change price marked packs! Sneaky indeed!!
its not the first time theyve done it either, and i always wonder how they think 'oh no one will notice!' lol maybe people just pay the higher price i dunno lol i don't!!
infact i once went and bought something for the marked price, had to go in a bit later the same day and walked past and found theyd changed the ticket price so it was higher, even tho the pack price was lower still!
Alan lol Im not too sure many people would question 3p ... but yeah its more the principle of the matter.
Jim
The Fudge bar seems to have completely changed since you did this review, Jim. Now instead of a gooey like filling, the fudge is more like a soft worther's style fudge. I personally like the change made. I don't think I would have liked the version you reviewed - too much like a chomp - but the one they have now is really tasty. My only issue is the size. What they should do is make it into a double fingered pack like a Twix.
Maybe it's time for an update on the new recipe for this bar. I'd love to know your opinion on it now it has changed.
