Kcal 305 Fat 17.2g Fat(sats) 12.2g Carbs 34.3gWhat the 'eck is going on ere Jim!? Well ChocolateMission readers you get a BOGOF today!! If you look below I have gone to the effort of updating my old Cadbury Boost review with some spiffing new pictures, whilst at the same time I have also written my thoughts on the equivalent bar available in Ireland the Cadbury Moro. Having reviewed carnations of this bar from places as widespread as Australia (See Here) it was with great excitement that I read an e-mail from ChocolateMission reader Alan who offered me the chance of trying this Irish version.
Now I would love to make this all a bit more exciting than it really was but unfortunately packaging aside there were no differences whatsoever between the Boost and the Moro when it came to looks, smell and taste. Just as I had experienced with the Cadbury Boost several times down the years this Irish Moro was packed to the brim with sugar and the taste was hellaciously sweet although delightfully creamy and full of interesting textures.
Overall drawing upon my conclusion of the Boost I stand by my original review and can only reiterate the same point I made back in 2008. This is a bar with several fantastic ideas and nice to have every now and then, however the overly sugar laden taste inhibits it from being one that I would choose to have frequently.

Kcal 305 Fat 17.2g Fat(sats) 12.2g Carbs 34.3gI'm sorry but with the Cadbury Boost there is no other place start other than with the bar's on-pack blurb ... 'charged with glucose' and describes itself as 'milk chocolate with caramel and biscuit filling'. Now I'm a marketing guy and understand the need for a bit of self proclamation on packaging but surely this is ridiculous...'Charged with glucose'...surely that just means 'Contains a load of sugar' - a ridiculous claim if you ask me. ***update 11.02.2010 ... on-pack claim changed to 'GET BOOSTED' ... not as bad in my opinion!
Packing a mighty 310 calories and nearly 18g of fat in its total 60g constituents this is by no means a lightweight bar you grab when you feel a little peckish! The Cadbury Boost is more like a full meal - and after eating it I certainly didn't feel like I could stomach another anytime soon. Enough about the packaging :) when I finally stopped examining the pretty foil covering and opened the bar I was greeted with a sweet smelling chocolatey biscuit aroma - yum yum!

The milk chocolate coating was your standard Cadburys Dairy Milk. I hadn't had a Cadburys bar for a few days so this was most welcome and tasted as good as always. Under the milk chocolate coating was a layer of chewy caramel. Unfortunately this caramel was no where near the standard that you get in a standard Cadburys Dairy Milk with Caramel bar. I thought t was far far more sweet and I can only assume this was due to the 'added glucose'. This part of the bar was disappointing to say the least.
The centre of the bar was truffle like in texture and had a smooth chocolatey taste. Also included in the truffle centre were small biscuit pieces, which whilst being pleasant in terms of taste, also provided a great contrast in texture adding a crunchy bite to the smooth filling.
Overall there is no doubting this is a tasty bar but I cant help but feel that it lets itself down a tad with it's OTT glucose claim and sugary taste. The caramel in the bar is a real let down as it is just to overly sweet - by the end of the bar I did feel that the taste was becoming rather sickly and I can solely pin point this down to the caramel. The idea of the smooth truffle centre with biscuit pieces is a great idea and is certainly more original than just the inclusion of nougat that too many bars include. If Cadburys could sort out the overly sweet caramel and perhaps alter the proportion of sugar in the bar slightly then I'm sure this would be challenging the top of the Chocolate Mission leaderboard...now if you don't mind I'm off for a run to burn off all this Glucose :D :D

Personally I couldn't care less about advertising crap, the bar itself is delicious. Never had the sickly problem myself, but horses for courses I guess. Still, 8.5 is a fair score.
As you can see advertising is not part of the scoring matrix so it wasnt going to efect its overall score...as I said the caamel really let it down...its just overly sweet. Shame as the rest of the bar is just such a good combination of elements.
Thanks for reading:)
I agree about the sickly part, I always find when I have a Boost I can only eat half in one sitting! It's a nice, original chocolate bar though. Rachel x
The Boost is probably one of the most filling bars you can get...well that and a double decker. Its almost like a meal in bar form :)
Jim do you know what filling the Boost used to have? I like Boosts although the shortcake biscuit inside tastes odd. Maybe its the glucose
I'm sure the original Boost had a different filling and the Biscuit one was a new range introduced later.
I had a Boost bar yesterday after getting out from the gym and it was bloody gorgeous! I haven't had one for years but I was starving and just in the mood for one. As it's been so warm lately, it melted in the mouth too.
8/10 (in warm weather)
AA- thanks for the comment, I dont know why but I can just see the Boost being one of those bars thats melts very quickly - thats not a good thing!
....I can imagine chilling it in the fridge and eating it on a hot day....that sounds alot better to me.
Boost Ice cream would be fantastic!
Cheers for commenting
Jim
The problem with Boost is that it really can be heavy going for such a small bar. It's even worse if, like me, you like to keep your chocolate in the fridge. It turns into a solid rock of chocolate, caramel and biscuit.
It is also the kind of chocolate bar that does nothing to shield you from the guilty implications of consuming it: it tastes like its loaded with all the most fattening ingredients imaginable, from too much sugar, to the gloopy caramel and sweet biscuit.
I love it, though. I just wish it wasn't quite such a guilt trip every time I have one.
Anon Hey there! Leave your name next time :D
Personally I just loved sticking y Boost in the fridge before eating it! It just really reiterated the differences in the texture of all the layers! Definately pretty hard going on the old teeth though :D :D
This bar is not for the dieter is it! The only standard bar I can think that is really worse for you in terms of fat and calories is the 'Boost....with nuts' lol see here ---->
http://www.chocolatemission.net/2008/07/july-8th-cadbury-boost-totally-nuts-aus.html
That bar is even more of a guilty pleasure than the original!
I think the thing is with chocolate...if your gonna eat it...you might as well do it properly :D just as long as you keep it to the occasional treat you should allow yourself that guilty pleasure.
Thanks for the input! Leave your name next time and please stick around the Chocolate Mission :D

Hey Jim
I bought one of these a few days ago as I hadn't had one in yonks, even though I like them. they are very filling and quite sweet but very nice.
I've often wondered why they don't mention the chocolate filling on the wrapper - 'milk chocolate with CHOCOLATE TRUFFLE, biscuit and caramel filling' would be better and more accurate i'd say lol ive also been surprised why they don't put Cadbury on the wrapper either!? i agree about the glucose claim, that should really go!
cheers

Alan Got to love the boost bar! All time classic in my book!
At the moment I am currently getting stuck into the Aussie equivalents ... the Cadbury Morro bars! I wonder if they will be as good!
I guess we will find out soon!
Jim
The pictures look great well done Jim.
Hey your thoughts were exactly the same as mine on the Moro lol I noticed yesterday that the Boost aswell as the Moro are actually both made in Ireland, hence no difference in taste which was a slight disappointment as I thought that the Moro would, being Irish, taste quite different lol. theyre still a nice treat though either way, now I want to get my hands on one of those other varieties lol
The new Boost slogan is much better than the old one! :)
Where is the biscuit in the Irish one?
It is there, but just not in Jims pic lol
I disagree about the caramel, I love it! I think Boost is the perfect combination of different textures - the chewy caramel the soft truffle filling, and the crunchy biscuit. Boost is still one of my fave choccy bars.
Alan
It was still worth seeing if there were any differences wasn't it!
I am slowly going to be updating my old reviews with new pictures I think it is a worthwhile exercise don't you think.
Colin
Colin the cross-section I did for some reason didn't have any biscuit bits showing .. apologies!
Phil
I am sure your not alone in your thinking there I think the Boost is one of Cadbury's best selling bars.
Thanks
JIM
I remember they used to do a version of the Boost with added "Brazilian guarana extract" (caffeine to me and thee), which came in green foil. I loved them but everyone else seemed to think they tasted rank and so they were quietly dropped.
If you ate them quickly, the combination of intense sugar and caffeine would actually make your scalp tingle. Happy days :)
I was shocked that the Boost got such a high score, especially considering your disappointment in the caramel. I tried a Boost for the first time yesterday and I thought it was absolutely awful. I found it tasteless, and the texture very poor - it was far too soft, especially for a bar with biscuit pieces in it. Talking about biscuit pieces - they were actually hardly present. There were only a few sparse bits, and they did nothing to enhance it at all. I just really really hate this bar.
@ BJ thats a funny argument.. after all why would a bar with biscuit pieces in suggest it has to be a hard bar?? Also not every bar will have exactly the same amount of biscuit in it, some may have abit more than others. I love Boots, I dont have them often but they are quite unique :)
the bar is delicious but nearly every time i buy one the caramel has leaked out and the bar is stuck to the packaging. this for me lets it down as their is no quality control in its production.
