August 3rd: Hotel Chocolat Praline White

Kcal ??? Fat ??? Fat(sats) ??? Carbs ???

This weeks Hotel Chocolat review comes in the form of the 'Praline White' - a combination of white chocolate swirled with hazelnut praline. The front of pack stated that the Praline White 'melts like butter on the tongue thanks to a dash of pure hazelnut paste'....all this sounded pretty good to me.

As you can see above this particular variant came in two 65g slabs - both provided adequete seperate servings, though on both occasions I was left wanting so much more for reasons I will go into. The presentation of the slabs was nice - the swirl pattern seperated the two different aspects of the white chocolate and hazelnut meaning some bites were full flavour white chocolate, some full flavour hazelnut praline - whilst the middle provided a mixture of the two...this was an interesting way of designing the bar. Opening the plastic package a quite frankly gorgeous dairy smell emerged...upon closer inspection it also had a slightly woody nutty scent...this bar smelt heavenly.

When breaking the slab into pieces I noticed the texture of the bar was slightly different to standard Hotel Chocolat slabs....it was softer and did not break away cleanly. When I placed the first piece in my mouth I realised the wonder this did for the melting point....the piece just melted ever so softly into a sinfully smooth but ever so exquisite double cream like texture...it felt like a thicker lindor truffle centre...just wonderful.

The white chocolate simply tasted divine. It had a full on cream flavour that was so amazingly milky - it was just so smooth and balanced in its intensity of sweetness. The white chocolate was superb, but the real champion of this slab was no doubt the hazelnut praline... it was absolutely heavenly...some might say the stuff of the gods haha! The praline tasted very similar to that of the creme centre of a Kinder Bueno...a delicious combination of milkyness and flavoursome hazelnut that was just so incredibly moreish. Each end of the slab contained the seperate components in isolation which was pleasant enough, though when both of the elements were mixed in the centre of the slab the flavours seamlessly combined making an even creamier offering with the nicest of nutty aftertastes.

Overall I have pretty much run out of words to describe what a great tasting amazingly textured bar this was. It was quite simply the best white chocolate offering I have tasted. For my money its creamy milky sweetness with the stunningly fine hazelnut praline made for a near untouchable synergy of flavours. Due to the nature of the super soft light texture, although the 65g servings were more than adequete they did not quite provide the full round satisfaction of the 85% dark chocolate. If your a white chocolate fan this is seriously a bar you need to try - its unmatched in this category by my reckoning - yet another sensational offering from Hotel Chocolat.

Yuuuuuuum. That's all I can say. I am sure this was one of the bars that I got last time I bought stuff from HC. I have such a weakness for praline. I just love it. :)

This sounds amazing. I second Gemma's love of praline, especially hazelnut. This one is definitely on my "to get" list. Good white chocolate is hard to find, but is every bit as good as milk or dark when done correctly. Thanks for the review!

Gemma Hey Gem - Im a massive fan of praline aswell!! Im guessing you must have tried the Guylian Sea Shell truffles yeah?

http://www.chocolatemission.net/2008/04/april-21st-guylian-sea-shell-truffles.html

They arent quite the same quality as this HC bar but I would hazard a guess they are slightly more affordable.

Saying that there really is not substitute for this bar...Im still pining for some now and I have eaten it the last two days already!! Very unusual - im normally just looking forward to getting on and reviewing the next product but this I could seriously eat again tonight! This bar is a big winner!

Justin Yes my friend this is one you seriously have to put on your list to try! Let me know when your thinking of putting your order for in for some Hotel Chocolat (if you are that is!??) and I will give you my opinion as to whether I think you got the best mix for trying everything out (milk, dark, white etc!) This bar should defo be the one occupying your white chocolate slot...I cant really say it enough but it was seriously THAT good!! Lol in a way im not sort of liking all this love I have for HC...my positive reviews for nearly everything they make must be making me look like I work for them or something...hopefully people who have tried the products aswell can vouch for me :D

Thanks for the comments guys - hope you have had great weekends!

Sadly, it looks like the US Hotel Chocolat site doesn't have as diverse a range as its UK parent. I may be inept, but it does not seem as though there are any white chocolates available!

I'll wait till the weather gets cooler and probably import from the UK site.

Justin man thats such a bummer!! I guess its worth waiting a little while longer anyway as I still have a few of their slabs to review anyway so I guess you can get a guage what they are like aswell before you splash out on the order!

Man I hope you can trust my judegment I wouldnt want you ordering anything you dont like....I can tell you this for nothing though...the 85% house dark NEEDS to be tasted lol I have only had it twice but everyday since I have yearned for it...its the only downside to this site I guess...I find my own personal fave chocolate but get very little chance to eat it... its a good thing I like trying new things!!

I hope the US sorts out its site soon bud - I hope my input will be of some use to your eventual choice!

another great thing about this chocolate is that it's calorie-free.
really Jim, you should get them to list nutritional information on the package.
you do work for them, don't you? :)

Anon unfortunately I dont...I wish I did as it would probably mean I would get even more free goodies off them.

Regardgin the nutritional info...I will request it from them and see where that gets me! I will feedback on this when I get a reply!
