Kcal 251 Fat 14.4g Carbs 27.0gEvery once in awhile I come across bars that I know I should really have reviewed a long time ago - The Aero bar being one of them. The Aero is probably anxiously counting down the days until its main rival in the aerated chocolate stakes the Cadbury Wispa will no doubt make yet another triumphant return this October. Well just before the next Wispa relaunch it's only fair I cast my view upon the Aero milk chocolate bar.
The bar came in a pretty hefty looking serving size, though obviously due to its aerated composition really only constituted the weight of a standard sized bar. The packaging was fair in its design, the foil ensured the bar was packaged tightly and kept it in a good condition. The bar itself was nicely presented with Aero logos on each block - the cross section of the bar revealed the bubbly nature of the insides which was fleetingly of interest. The bar smelt very sweet with an all too obvious chocolaty aroma - nothing much to pass judgement on here, simply what you would expect from a Nestle manufactured bar.
As the smell suggested the bar had a sweet taste, it was more forceful in its breadth of sweetness than it was its cocoa flavour. The taste was one of quite a generic milk chocolate, there was certainly nothing untoward about it, but just lacking a real flavour definition in comparison to say Dairy Milk, Milka or Galaxy etc. Obviously the real selling point behind the bar is the texture - 'Have you felt the Bubbles melt' asks the packaging... well yes I certainly have. The outer chocolate had a rather waxy melt and feel in the mouth, though this was more than made up for by the inside of the bar. The bubbles did indeed provide a nice variation of texture, and one that did feel quite pleasant in the mouth. Due to the lightness of the centre the bar, it was hardly a massively filling option, though it's sweetness of taste more than made the serving size adequate.
Overall in my opinion the Cadbury Wispa is definitely the superior bar out of the two; largely down to the overall quality in taste of the milk chocolate. The Aero has a middle ground sweet taste that is neither bold in its cocoa or milky flavours, it simply maintains a pretty medium in between the two, which makes for a pleasurable but relatively uninspiring taste. Personally I think its just a matter of time before the Wispa comes back and reclaims this part of the market.

Surprising review for the Aero. A lot of people seem to love it, me being one of them. Still 7.4 is a good score. :)
Hey Jim
cheers for the review :) i agree with you aswell, i havent seen one of these bars in ages, only the little bumpy bars that are meant to be the Wispa equivalent in size but are tiny lol.
i always thought the chocolate ha d abit of a waxy texture on top i never knew why but it kinda detracts form the nicer inside. I think Wispa will regain a you say its top spot, apart from being much more filling, i never feel filled when i eat an aero!
I've been trying to track down teh orange aero, as i actually quite liked them and the mint are ok too, but only ever see mint. i wonder if they don't make them anymore?
cheers for the review :)

Jayem Your right in the grand scheme of things 7.4 is hardly a disaster ... I personally think it sells so many at present because there is simply no substitute for aerated textured chocolate ... as well know that's about to change though.
Alan I saw that longer finger version just the other day .. they were selling it right next to the version I reviewed above in my local onestop ... I thought it was rather odd!!
I haven't seen an Aero Orange for ages ... I always used to see them in larger bars in Woolworths but not for a very long time now!!
Im actually looking forward to reviewing the Aero Mint bar...I really enjoyed the Mint Bubbles that I had agesssss ago! I remember being quite surprised at the amount I like them..that is for another day though lol!
Cheers for the input
Jim
lol yeah i rather like the flavoured areos, i think thats their plus point ie the plain aero is compared to wispa but the wispa mint, gold and bite were different to ornage and mint aeros so you had a good choice.
i think cadbury have a few plans for the wispa, i emailed them about a darker version and they said that it was a possibilty along with several other ideas they'd considered or something so who knows. i know they always say that but it will be interesting to see what happens. i wonder what a dark aero would be like?
cheers
Alan
Alan Oh god no not a dark Wispa ... you just know for a fact it will be a tame dark chocolate! I would rather they focus on doing a flavour myself ...just bring back the mint and the gold and be done with it! Why try fix something that isn't broke!
As for an Aero Dark .. for the same reasons I can't say I fancy it! Mass consumer 'dark' themed bars do tend to be one the bland side ...its as if they literally just half the sugar and leave the same amount of cocoa in.
Cheers for the input!
Jim
lol well wispsa were originally a blend of milk and dark you know. i know what you mean but in this day and age with all the competetion out there its bound to happen.
also i dont think a dark aero would be bad, after all look at dark kitkats? they're selling better than the original now.
cheers
alan
Alan I didn't know that about the Wispa myself!!
I like the point you make about Kit Kat Dark!! I was struggling to thin earlier about a mass consumer variation that was actually any good ...and you plucked one right out there!! lol good work :) I'm a big fan on the Kit Kat Dark.
Cheers
Jim
hey jim,
yeah i read it on a cadbury press release on this site
http://www.lightstraw.co.uk/faded/wispa1.html
lol well i remembered reading that KitKat dark had been outselling original ones :) so a dark aero would prob just be the smae chcolate lol
cheers
Alan
Alan Cheers for that! your probably right about an aero dark using the same chocolate as a kit kat dark ... it wouldn't surprise me anyway!!
That link didn't work for me!?? Doh!?
whilst we are talking about dark variants of original bars you may have an interest in the bar I reviewed today!! The dark variation of the Snickers!!
Cheers
Jim
lol i wonder why the link didnt work, i just tried it again and it worked for me lol grr lol
isn't there a aero white? like the cadbury snowflake? milk chocolate with white bubbles? im sure its in a blue and white wrapper!
cheers
Alan
can u buy this in the uk, dark snickers? sounds interetsing!
cheers
alan
Alan never seen an aero white myself ... maybe you could do some research for us ;)
As for the Snickers Dark - I got sent this by someone from the US.... Its not avalible as a standard bar in the UK but keep an eye on CandyPirate they might get some in soon!

alan
Alan Another interesting flavour - good work! I gonna have to get on my bike to see if I can track these down now! I'm off to investigate!!
Cheers for the heads up on these bars much appreciated!
Jim
i love hershey's aero... unfortunately, it isn't widely available. this is the best chocolate ever
ningning Hershey's have an aero bar? First I have heard of it!!
I tried the variant Aero bars such as the Aero caramel, and wasn't keen on the aerate texture. I was thus expecting to have the same feelings towards the original. Surprisingly though, I thought the inside felt a lot softer than the previous Aero's I've tried. It was nice, but it is still no comparison to the Wispa, Dairy Milk Bubbles and Galaxy Bubbly.
