November 8th: '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' - Edition 22

### JIM's Corner & QOTW ###

HI All,

I am going to keep it short this week as there is plenty of stuff to be getting on with Christmas coming up.

As a head ups I am quickly just going to outline what to expect coming in to 2010 as there are going to be a few changes on the site.

Having finished University and started full time employment in June 09 I have decided that I will now be switching my posting days to Monday, Wednesday and Friday. With the site being updated everyday at the moment it is pretty hard keeping tabs on everything and having written over 800 reviews already (loads huh!?) I am thinking I should start being more selective about the products I review ... so question of the week is ...

'What do you think about the move from 6 posts a week to 3?'

Please note that every so often there will be a more general (non-review) post on Saturday/Sunday just so I can keep everyone up-to-date with the goings-on on other blogs and the ChocolateMarket.

Let me know what you think and have a great week.

JIM

Russ commented that however Cadbury are at making brownies, local bakeries will always come out the winners ... SEE HERE

Alan & Phil were disappointed at the look of the Cadbury Desserts Berry Panacotta and said they wanted Cadbury to bring back some of their flavoured chocolates ... SEE HERE

I've been wondering how you keep it up anyway, especially as there now seems to be a devoted fellowship commenting on your reviews, and you still take the time to respond to everybody. Three reviews a week sounds good to me!

I think it is a fair swap. It must be really hard for you to keep it going.

As David says I think it's perfectly fair, afterall your commitments have altered so a bit of juggling is cool :)

As long as the standard of your reviews stay the same I am sure people wont mind jim. It will still be one of my favourite sites.

What are they thinking taking roses out of the tin. The tin is what makes them so iconic =< EPIC amounts of fail cadbury.

ive already seen cardboard boxes @ tesco for cadburys 'heroes', which just looks sooooo wrong!!! tins all the way!!

I do like your site because you have new stuff everyday but I think we could all just get used to 3 posts.

p.s. you need to review some droste chocolate.

I think that's ok Jim, although personally I would say maybe do less cake bar/biscuit reviews. It makes a nice change now and then but personally I find it boring, I mean most cake bars are essentially 'ok' chocolate, a layer of cream and sponge. I'd prefer it to be just focused more on exotic or interesting chocolates, such as the rest of Lindt petits desserts, or ones you get sent from dean-german etc.

Not sure what others think of this, just my opinion.

i think your being a bit harsh calling cake reviews boring. i
can see why the guy does since people ask him to do them, i know i have done before.

jim i think if your doing less reviews you just have to be more selective of what you do. i am sure you will be. keep up the good work.

I have been waiting for this post jimbo. As long as you don't stop the site it is fine by me. I like the way you take the time to talk to us all when we post so please keep doing that.

I love reading your site, it is part of my routine. But I know what the pressures are like trying to write daily with a full time job. Oh to be a student again.
Do as much as you can/want - if it starts to feel a bit like a chore, then it is okay to cut back a few days.

No problems with 3 reviews a week for me, moreover that means I'll have more time to read them and (even better!) I'll probably spend half money to get those luxury imports in France xD

Phil said...

George I did say it was my PERSONAL opinion.

Everyone

Probably easiest to reply like this as I thought you were all saying similar things.

It is good to hear that no one will be too disapointed by the 'plan' to post only on Mon/Wed/Fri.

To be honest I already have a months backlog of reviews already ... so when this actually starts happening I am not sure.

I do agree with Phi in that if I am cutting back on the amount of reviews they will be more focused on chocolate rather than the recent branching out into other things like cake products....and he did say it was a personal opinion! George is correct in saying that these reviews were requested though ... whatever lets get along :) Phil I think you will be pleased to hear that I have recently been sent another big box of goodies from Germany so I am sure there will be some stuff in there you will be interested in.

I agree with all the comments on the tins ... what on earth are they doing? It is a bit like taking marmite out the yellow and black pot! Unthinkable!!!

I am glad that my proposed changes have gone done well with my committed readers - I hope this shows how much I value your opinions.

Right onwards and upwards!

Thanks everyone - have great weeks.

I must just add my tuppence, incase you thought I was shunning you, which you probably didn't but y'know..
I think I slight cut back is a good idea, you want to keep getting enjoyment out of it and not make it a chore, otherwise what is the point? I too have wondered how the hell you were managing to keep up the momentum!
Also from a reader's pov it will make the reviews extra precious. (And yes I do regard them as precious ;) )

Lottie

Your views are always very welcome as I am sure you are well aware.

I think the move to fewer reviews is a safeguard against this becoming unejoyable. 6 reviews a week is more than manageable (I have been doing it for the last 2 years afterall!) but just cutting down to three makes it easy ... which I guess exactly what you want for something that is a hobby.

I looked at the amount of reviews I have done over two years earlier and it is actually pretty incredible ... I won't tell you how many as I am saving that for Question of the week next week ... BREAKING NEWS .... there is a prize next week :)

To add to what lottie said, I too regard the reviews as special and having less of them will make them extra special :)
