These reviews are short, sharp snapshots ... I hope you can keep up :D
Weetabix Oaty Bars White Chocolate
Kcal 67 Fat 1.4g Fat(sats) 0.6g Carbs 11.9g (per 23.0g bar)
'White chocolate flavoured mixed cereal bar drizzled with a yogurt flavoured coating'
I love having Weetabix from time-to-time in the mornings so I had been looking forward to trying this new Weetabix branded cereal bar. Unfortunately I was really disappointed with it - not only was it tiny in size and thus totally unfulfilling, but it was also very bland and I couldn't detect any additional white chocolate or yogurt flavour influences aside from a small sugar blast on top of the mild mannered oat flavours. The base oat cereal bar wasn't at all horrible but it was still pretty disappointing and not something I would recommend.

Weetabix Weetos
Kcal 88 Fat 2.9g Fat(sats) 1.3g Carbs 14.2g (per 20.0g bar)
'Chocolate flavour wheat hoop bar with a milk chocolate base'
I haven't ever had Weetos cereal (I was never allowed chocolate cereal as a kid!) but I was expecting a chocolate flavoured Cheerios type experience. This bar actually exceeded my expectations, and despite it's light catch weight it actually made for a relatively satisfying snack. I found the cereal constituents to be more syrupy, and sweet tasting than it was chocolatey, however the milk chocolate base gave a fair chocolate flavour hit for each bite. Not the best cereal bar ever, but you could do far worse.

Kellogg's Fibre Plus Dark Chocolate & Almond
Kcal 116 Fat 5.0g Fat(sats) 1.5g Carbs 15.0g (per 28.0g bar)
'High fibre mixed cereal bar with almonds and a chocolate drizzle, dipped in a smooth dark chocolate'.
Who remembers my review of the Kellogg's Fibre Plus Milk Chocolate variant last month (See HERE). Well that milk chocolate variety was pretty tasty, but this one was even better. Some of the other bars featured today may appeal more due to them being lighter on the calories and fat content, but this bar was by far and away the most satisfying out of them all. Much like you would think the fibre cereal was a little bland tasting, though the unsweetened cocoa flavours and the buttery almonds brought a little bit of life to each and every bite. The chocolate quality isn't the greatest but it delivers a decent chocolate flavour hit for a cereal bar. I would recommend this as the best of the bunch.

Weetabix Alpen Fruit & Nut Milk Chocolate

Kcal 125 Fat 3.9g Fat(sats) 1.7g Carbs 20.2g (per 29.0g bar)
'Mixed cereal bar with fruit & nut, dipped and drizzled with milk chocolate'
ChocolateMission reader Alan suggested I review this bar a while back, and I was more than willing due to my love of Alpen museli. Considering this bar was slightly larger than the Kellogg's Fibre Plus bars I was a little surprised I didn't find it quite as fulfilling, though I still thought it did a relatively good job tieing over my mid-afternoon munchies. Although the milk chocolate had very small cut through in the taste, I still really liked the additional fruit and nut influences from the raisins and chopped hazelnuts and almonds. I wouldn't say it was the greatest tasting cereal bar I have ever had but I would probably have another if offered given the variation that the fruit and nut brings to the cereal base.

I am generally a little unenthused by cereal bars, but I would say the Kellogg's Fibre Plus and Alpen bars are worth a look at if you are after a chocolate option. Do you guys have a favourite cereal based chocolate snack?

Glad you enjoyed the Alpen bar Jim, I also like the Alpen museli so it was pretty likely I'd enjoy the bar. I find them very moreish!
The only chocolate cereal I can think of that my sister and I ate (and about the only choc one we still do lol)are Coco Pops (lovely mixed with Cornflakes!!). I remember them bringing out Chocolate Cornflakes and even Chocolate Frosties at one point a few yrs ago but I think they didn't take off.
I didn't like those Weetabix bars either Jim. Far too sweet and didn't even taste much of white chocolate.
I like Alpen bars though. I've tried various flavours and they all seem pretty good. They do a 'lighter' version which is good but not as filling as the regular.
The wheetos one looks nice but you forgot to do Coco Pops Jim. Come on we wanna see it.
Lol great post.
I don't like cereal bars but I would still be interested in trying the weetabix one.
I don't think I have ever seen a white chocolate flavoured cereal bar before.
Rxxx
Have you ever tried a nutrigrain bar? I am addicted to them at the moment and the chocolate one is my favourite. They are well worth trying if you like cereal bars. Kelloggs make them by the way.
You should do some reviews of chocolate cereals. You could do
* Kelloggs Krave
* Coco Pops
* Cookie Crunch
* Chocolate Shreddies
* Chocolate Cornflakes
That would be brilliant if you did that.
Eughhhhhh I hate Oatabix. I want to know what idiot is responsible for them.
My mum keeps on mistakenly picking up them instead of normal weetabix. It is so annoying I hate them.
@Rachel - Trust me I was excited when I tried it too but it really doesn't taste of white chocolate at all.
@Golden_Touch - I didn't know there was a chocolate Nutrigrain? I've seen the Nutrigrain Elevenses choc chips though, they sound nice. I've had the regular Elevenses and they're very tasty. Would be good to see a review of them Jim!
Sorry but I have never seen the point of cereal bars. Some people say they are a healthier alternative to a chocolate bar but when you look at the details you see most of them aren't.
They are all marketing rubbish if you ask me.
2-3 weeks for Rooney jim you still think you will win the league?
I would also like to see you review some chocolate cereals but I think one of the ones Lauren mentions doesn't exist any more. I haven't seen chocolate flavoured cornflakes for like forever? I don't think they are listed on the Kelloggs site either.
Still do it please.
p.s. sorry completely forgot to talk about the review lol.
Out of all these I have tried the Alpen bar but none of the others. I am never that excited by cereal bars but I will happily eat one if offered. I think those Fibre Plus look cool, especially the packaging.
Sorry for the double post.
I love cereal but I have never had chocolate flavoured ones.
I always find them really disappointing as they often don't really taste of chocolate. The only exception I can think of is chocolate flavoured readybrek. Amazing stuff.
Dx
You're right Nick, Chocolate Cornflakes have long since been discontinued. I tend to prefer Kelloggs cereal to Nestle, for some reason Nestles never have much appeal to me. Hence why I'd have coco pops over Nestle equivalent (or even weetabix equivalents) etc anyday lol
I know you don't like Green & Blacks but they do some nice cereal bars that you should check out.

If you review cereals you can't forget to do Nesquik.
And chocolate cheerios too, if you haven't already...ow long have those been around btw? (will copy this to requests page) lol my mom refused to buy me chocolate cereal too, hence my love of the rare shopping opportunity with my 'forgetful' dad -- once the cocoa krispies were safely home the box was mine to finish!
Coco Pops > All others
I think 'good' chocolate cereal bars are rare. The ones that do succeed (Green & Blacks did a niceish one) are often just as unhealthy as actual chocolate, which kinda defeats the purpose. And I'd rather eat actual chocolate..or actual cereal bar. I'm set in my ways like that.
Cereal (as in of the bowl)and chocolate works though. I mean Nesquik, coco pops..pure genius!
Infact, I am so extreme and next level that I have created a culinary masterpiece: bowl of that golden syrup oatso simple + big blob of nutella swirled in :) Try it! Try it, then try and resist the urge to propose to me for being such a master of art. No one has resisted thus far! Not even my Gran.
Alan
Thanks chap - the alpen bar was a great suggestion thanks again.
I think you are right about the chocolate cornflakes they are long gone if you are talking about the Kelloggs ones.
Phil
Nah I don't think I will be trying the milk chocolate oatabix bar any time soon. I might give one of the Alpen lighter bars a try if I do a second Bit n Bobs Cereal bars one I will make sure I include one in there.
David
Sorry chap. Seems like I made a glaring error leaving coco pops out today.
Rachel
I think you are right. I haven't seen a white chocolate one before either. They could have done a lot better with this one though.
Golden
I have actually ... take a look here ...
http://www.chocolatemission.net/2009/05/may-7th-kelloggs-nutri-grain-chocolate.html
I am not a fan I am afraid. I know a lot of people are though.
Lauren
Good suggestions - I will make sure I include them when/if I do the cereal post.
Anon
I tried them the other day and didn't think they were that much different from normal weetabix. If you can detect a difference I can see how that would be annoying.
Phil #2
I would agree about the white chocolate thing.
I should give one of those Elvensies a try shouldn't I. If I see them on cheap you can bank on it.
Darren
You do sort of have a point. Some of the more luxurious bars are just an unhealthy as a normal chocolate bar. I don't think you could accuse the Alpen lighter bars that Phil is talking about being in that category though.
Nick
RE: Rooney - yes I have every faith we will win the league.
RE: Kelloggs Chocolate Cornflakes - long gone I think.
Nick
The packaging on the Fibre Plus does bring a real bit of excitement to what is a pretty dull proposition.
Daisy
My words I haven't had chocolate Readbrek for ages. I must have been about 10 when I had that last. Do they still even make it??
Alan #2
Just as I thought they are long gone aren't they.
Justin
I haven't seen them before, but they look cool. If I remember I will look out for them next time I am in the shops.
Emma
I have never tried the stuff but I know a lot of people are fans of the stuff. I have noted this down for the cereal review.
Thea
I don't think we have chocolate cheerios in this country? I think parents are quite correct not giving their children chocolate cereals. I guess every now and then they are nice to have as a treat, but I wouldn't condone someone eating them everyday.
Lottie
I will make sure I definitely remember about these Green & Blacks ones.
I do like my porridge so I will give that a try sometime. Have you ever tried putting a few spoonfulls/sachets of Options hot chocolate in before cooking it! Seriously good stuff trust me!
Thanks everyone! Thank god it is Easter holidays!
JIM
"I was expecting a chocolate flavoured Cheerios type experience" -- funny, I saw actual chocolate cheerios a couple days ago and thought that is what you meant and that I was behind the times -- I guess they are new, then.
