May 6th: Lindt Petits Desserts Tiramisu`

Kcal 550 Fat 36.0g Fat(sats) 21.0g Carbs 50.0g (per 100.0g)

On ChocolateMission the Lindt Petits Desserts range has remained a relatively untapped area of Lindt's extensive portfolio, but I can no longer ignore the calls from my readers to get some reviews up. Back in November 2009 I gave Lindt Petits Desserts Creme Brulee bar a terrific score of 9.0 out of 10 (See HERE), and commented that 'the bar brought to life the creme brulee flavour theme fantastically'. Today I was hoping for more of the same from this Lindt Petits Desserts Tiramisu chocolate, which came described as 'milk chocolate with a creamy filling, with dark chocolate crunchy biscuit and coffee'. Tiramisu ranks as one of my all time favourite desserts ever (a restaurant I go to when on vacation in Spain does a particularly amazing one!) so I was pretty curious as to how Lindt planned to implement it into a chocolate bar.

This bar cost me just over £2 from my local Waitrose supermarket (I know, I know me buying chocolate for myself ... that hasn't happened for a long time!) which I guess is probably on the expensive side of things for a mass produced chocolate. One thing that made me feel a little bit more at ease with the price point was the fact that this bought me 150.0g of product, and the packaging looked pretty glamorous with the attractive tiramisu picture and premium looking golden coloured fonts. Inside the chocolate was coated in the usual branded thick layer of foil, that protected the large, thick block pieces nicely. The chocolate itself looked nice on the eye with clear distinct layers of filling visible in each block. Whilst admiring for it's aesthetic prestige I also took note of the delightful hints of dairy, cocoa and coffee being emanated which only went to further heighten my anticipation.

To let the 'cat out the bag' early so to say, I can confirm to you all now that this was one fantastic tasting chocolate. To get the only minor negative out the way my only complaint with the product as a whole comes in the fact that the bar would have been better designed had it smaller mouthsized blocks, though to be honest biting each in half hardly required much effort. Starting with the outer chocolate it was just as good as you would come to expect from Lindt. It had a real fresh snap when bitten into, yet melted with a delightful smoothness whilst delivering a crisp and forthcoming creamy, cocoa taste. Sitting in the middle of the piece the creme layer was nothing short of outstanding and I have no idea how they managed to pack so many different flavour influences in there. To rattle them all off at once there notes of brandy, coffee, almonds, double cream, butter and a minor hint of yogurt to deliver the mascarpone element. To top it all off the dark chocolate biscuit at the bottom reaffirmed the cocoa flavours of the outer constituents, ensuring the chocolate flavour hit was delivered in every bite. The taste was busy, yet never overly so and the flavours never felt rushed or over with too quickly. A few blocks of this at a time made for a decent sized snack, however at the same time I felt like I could have quite easily consumed more given the enjoyment that each mouthful gave me.

Overall the only feeling of regret I have after eating this chocolate is one of why it has taken me over two and a half years to pick this bar off the shelves? I would love to say that the answer to that question is because I have been discouraged by previous attempts at tiramisu flavoured chocolates (Dove Desserts Tiramisu - See HERE, Cadbury Dairy Milk Desserts Tiramisu - See HERE), but I think it is more down to the fact I have been a little ignorant. To sum things succinctly (not my strong point I know!) - this chocolate is utterly superb, and is one of the finest bars I have tried this year ... make that last two and a half years. This chocolate may be more expensive than your average mass produced offering, but lovers of the dessert tiramisu will have no regrets forking out that little bit extra. Much like I found with the Lindt Petits Desserts Creme Brulee chocolate the character of the pudding was captured with amazing effect. This Lindt offering gets a double thumbs up from me - I would strongly suggest you give it a try if you just have the mildest curiosity.

Aaah, the Petits Desserts range! Try more of them, you won't be sorry. They are brilliant. The Tarte Citron, the Truffle Cake, the Dark Orange. Oh, and the assortment box with those Macaroon and Brownie pieces... mmm...

Wow another really high score. I love tiramisu so I have to find one of these to try. Great review Jim.

See I find this very annoying. I have seen these desserts bars reviewed all across the internet but I have never been able to find them.

Its all well and good telling these things are great Jim, but if we can't find them it makes it all the more frustrating. Lol don't worry Im not blaming you, its just annoying.

Emma said...

You should give the box of petites desserts a try Jim I bet you love them. I remember them being pretty pricey, but they were very verrrrrrrrrry yummy (you will need to make sure you nick all the best ones lol) Brilliant review today.

The chocolate looks wonderful I have never seen a filling look so big. I bought the last creme brulee after reading your last review, seems like I need to buy this one now.

Steven_F said...

Ana are these flavours only available in Germany or can you get them elsewhere.

The only Petits Desserts I have ever seen is the creme brulee which Jim did last.

I like the sound of the tarte citron. Lemon mreingue pie is my favourite dessert ever.

This cost more than £2? Geeze that is pretty expensive for a Lindt bar. Has anyone seen in sainsburys that they have Lindt excellence on half price at the moment. They have just launched two new flavours hazelnut and almond. They could be worth a review boyo.

Richard said...

p.s. Thank you for including the price lol

I have also tried this bar before and didn't think it was as good as Jim has said. I remember thinking the tiramisu bit wasn't that great. The chocolate was very nice though which it always is with Lindt. I fancy trying the creme brulee now.

Nick-I found this bar in whittard's tea shop if you still cant find it.
I tried this bar a few years ago and I have to agree with your review it is delicious , better than any other tiramisu themed chocolate :P

Marshall said...

You're not wrong Jim this bar is excellent. I'm not sure about it being better than some of the simpler excellence chocolates, but it is definitely one of those chocolates I would buy again.

This is one of my favourite chocolates of all time but it is a little expensive. The only place I ever seem to find it is in my local newsagents and they sell it for £2.5 which I think is pretty astronomical.

If you have never tried it before I would suggest you do so. I know you wont regret it.

Matutu said...

Ok why have i never seen this haha, must find some of these :D.

Hmmm but suppose i should get through my mountain of HC and Heavenly cakes delivery :d haha Lumpy Brownies today :D.

Already been in the gym for 2 hours so ive earnt it.

Any news on a forum Jim?

Rachel said...

Wow, this sounds really delicious, I love coffee so this is right up my alley! I think I should follow your lead and make an effort to buy some Lindt chocolate. :D I tried their Chili Chocolate last week and it was fantastic.

Lauren said...

Two dessert chocolates in two days my you are treating us this week Jim. I cant say I have ever seen any of these Lindt dessert chocolates but I will almost certainly buy one in the future if I get the oppertunity. It's so hard trying to keep up with the tasty chocolates I see on this site.

Ana said...

@Steven_F: I don't really know. The bars, excepting the Truffle Cake bar, and the assortment box are on Lindt's UK website, but they don't offer online sales.

Jim said he bought it from a Waitrose supermarket.

You could try Emily's suggestion, Whittard stores, I also remember reading that they had this range (even though the only Lindt products I can see now on the Whittard website are various kinds of Lindors).

Alan said...

This bar looks lovely, but I hate Tiramisu so I wont be trying this particular one, but the other varieties sound delicious. I never see them anywhere either though which is a shame.

@ Richard, theres in fact three new bars, Milk with crunchy caramel pieces is the third. I bought it the other day and its delicious! :)

Paul said...

I have never tried any of this range but if I had the choice I would probably plump for the Creme Brulee rather than the tiramisu. I just don't like coffee I am afraid.

The way they package the bars is tremendous though isn't it.

Diane said...

Well this review has me convinced.

Tiramisu has never been a favourite of mine because I don't like alcohol and chocolate together, but from what I can tell from your review it sounds like it takes a back seat to the coffee.

I'm off to read the creme brulee review now :)

Candy said...

The Lindt range and Petits Desserts is available here in Australia, I will be trying the Creme Brulee now after reading your report. I nearly fell over the other day, whilst doing my shopping I spotted a Lindt dark chocolate bar with sea salt, have you seen this one in the UK? Great website BTW I love it.

Kevin said...

I will have to buy this chocolate sometime aswell then. My list of chocolates that I am thinking of buying is getting increasingly longer the more I read your blog.

I don't know how you get through so much chocolate managing to post something new everyday. You must have your own fitness instructor.

Susanne said...

Definitely one of my firm favourites! Lindt could hardly do better than this.

lottie said...

Ooh yeah now this is a quality bar. I think the price is justifiable since it's such a beast and such an oral delight. I slightly prefer this to the creme brulee one, which is a tad too sickly-creamy for me.

Actually went to Waitrose after reading this, and had to smile when I saw it beaming down with shiney gusto from the shelf. ALSO I discovered with glee they are now stocking the Lindt sea salt bar AND the butter biscuit Ritter Sport!!! :D :D
Waitrose I heart you! I am metaphorically clasping you in tight embrace for selling such delicious confectionaries!

Awesome review, as always :)

PART 1

Ana

Don't you worry I will be checking them all out at some point in time.
I will make sure I check out the selection box aswell! Thanks for suggesting places for people to buy these - veyr helpful!

David

If you like tiramisu I bet you would enjoy this. Give it a try some time.

Rachel

I haven't actually seen that one yet. I have noted your request don't worry! I will get round to it at some point I am sure.

Nick

Probably best trying either the Lindt shops, ebay, whittakers tea shops or Waitrose. Those are the places that seem to stock these bars. Best of luck.

Emma

Don't you worry that selection box is on the radar. A lot of people today have suggested I try it so it isn't like I can ignore that :D

Anon #1

The filling is really well portioned but its not like the chocolate takes a backseat. It is nicely balanced.

Steven

You can get them all in the UK chap. They aren't the most distributed bars ever but they are around if you look in the right places.

Richard

No worries for putting the price on :D I wrote this review ages ago so I struck lucky I guess.

I have seen those new Lindt bars. Reviews will be up soon don't you worry.

Justin

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy it as much as I did. Give the creme brulee bar a try and see what you think of it.

Emily

The best tiramisu bar ever? Yep I would agree with that ... well the ones I have tasted anyway!

My local Whittards shop closed down recently, but there are still some around. I will take a look at their range next time I am in one.

Marshall

You are right some of the Excellence bars are terrific. The Chilli and the Coffee Intense spring to mind as at least being on the same playing field.

Kim

£2.5o is very dear isn't it. I am not sure I would pay that much on a consistent basis. I am glad you seem to agree with my recommendation of this bar though.

Matthew

2 hours in the gym? Boy that is very keen of you. If you ever try this bar let me know what you think.

Rachel

Coffee flavoured chocolate is amazing isn't it. I think it is one of my favourite things to add to chocolate.

I'm glad you liked the Chilli Excellence bar. It is one of the best chilli chocolates around I think.

Lauren

Indeed I am! First Desserts Pocky and today Desserts a la Lindt :D You should trying looking for these Desserts bars in some of the places people have suggested today.

PART 2

Alan

You don't like Tiramisu? I quite like it myself. Perhaps not as much as some others like Creme Brulee etc but I'm still pretty partial to it.

Have I not reviewed that milk with crunchy caramel bits already? I thought they have had that one in the range for a while now?

http://www.chocolatemission.net/2009/02/february-11th-lindt-excellence-crunchy.html

Ana

Thank you for helping people out :D

Paul

Lindt always present their products superbly you have to give them that. Let me know what you think of the creme brulee if you try it.

Diane

The liqueur element is actually very sublte in this bar. It is the coffee and the cream that come through the strongest. I hope you enjoyed the Creme Brulee review :D

Candy

It is great to hear I have readers in Australia - welcome!! Indeed we do have the Sea Salt Excellence bar ... the review is there.

http://www.chocolatemission.net/2009/01/january-15th-lindt-excellence-sea-salt.html

Thanks for the nice words about the website! Make sure you stick around.

Kevin

I tend to share a lot of the chocolate I get sent so I have the oppertunity to try something new pretty much everyday.

Whenever I visit my family they are always more than happy to 'help' me out. Especially when the Hotel Chocolat packages arrive :D

Susanne

Glad to hear that you approve of my high score. This is about as good as it gets when it comes to Lindt.

Lottie

The 150.0g is beasty isn't it! I think the blocks should be a bit smaller though. Splitting it only ten makes them a little big.

Waitrose have an awesome range of chocolates don't they! Whoever would of thought it!? Anyone who hasn't checked out their local Waitrose for chocolate musn't know what they are missing!

Thanks for the nice words about my review - a pleasure to read your pearls of wisdom as ever.

Thanks everyone - I believe we have more Spanish Cadbury chocolate up tomorrow! 2 days left of the competition! Get your entries in!!

Isn't that strange - the bar Crunchy Caramel i bought has the same graphics but is in a blue wrapper and says 'new' (or something along those lines)on the corner and is obviously part of the new range with the two Richard mentioned but appears to be the same bar you've reveiwed! How cheeky of lindt is that lol

Phil said...

This is certainly an awesome bar, I love most of the petits desserts range particularly the dark orange one.
Today I got a Lindt crunchy hazelnut bar, I think it's new, it has a different style wrapper. Very very tasty.

great review...tiramisu in a chocolate bar...brilliant!

Anisa said...

hi ppl

does anyone know if any of the petit desserts, like creme brulee, tiramisu etc have any alcohol ... and which lindt has alcohol? need to know asap!

Ana said...

As far as I know, these don't have any alcohol.

The Petits Desserts Mousse range has barley malt extract listed among the ingredients.

If you're looking for alcohol chocolates, check out http://www.lindt.com/int/swf/eng/lindt-worldwide/europe/, then select your country and see what products they have listed.

Jim said...

Alan / Phil

It was cheeky for them to repackage those bars and stick a 'New' tag on the front wasn't it :D

Ana

Thanks for the nutritional information I just added it to the review.

Jen

Thanks for the nice words.

Anisa / Ana

Ana thank you so much for helping Anisa out here. You have really helped me out here :D

Thanks everyone.
