June 12th: '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' - Edition 45

COME ON ENGLAND

Hi All,

I'm currently revelling in World Cup fever - so please excuse the short nature of this update today!

To bring you all up to speed on things I have recently recieved packages from Heavenly Cakes, Hotel Chocolat, Zotter, Galler and one from Germany which has several of the latest Milka and Lindt flavours. Be sure to watch out for all the reviews coming up on the site - remember I am always open to your requests.

The question(s) of the week: 'which is your favourite world cup themed advert? Are you getting annoyed by them all?'

Personally a lot of them are starting to grate on me, but from a marketing perspective the Carlsberg ad we have here in the UK has been brilliant. It would be interesting to hear from countries other than the UK to see if things have gone quite as mad.

Have great weeks .... COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!

JIM

You sound as excited as I am Jim. I personally think the Kit Kat advert isn't bad.

They are starting to get annoying though. Come on england stuff the yanks.

I think I might be the only person left on the planet totally disintersted in this football malarky.

All the football adverts are getting so irritating sorry.

I like the music to the cocoa cola ad.

So you have received more Heavenly cakes this week? I look forward to reading the reviews, which ones are they?

Nothing beats the Nike advert with RONAL-DOH. that still makes me laugh everytime I see it.

Great website I found you on Twitter.

I think the best world cup advert is the carlsberg one. I bet it cost millions to make, there are so many hidden celebs in there.

Your new photograph on the reeses fast break review makes it look amazing. I can't believe you gave it such a low rating. It has to be an all time low for reese's doesn't it.

The kit kat cross your finger advertisement is amazing. That Flake ad is so pants. What were they on when they made that one.

I'm starting to get very very annoyed with the amount of football commercials. I seriously want to hit Terry Venables, he is popping up all over the place.

I actually like that new Flake ad. I think its oddly compelling. You sort of have to watch it if you know what I mean.

Not being a football fan I will glad when it's all over - same goes for Wimbledon! lol there is an extraordinary amount of coverage/adverts this year, it's quite tiresome, although I caught the end of SoccerAid which fun esp since one of my favourite actors, Simon Baker, was in it.

Jim i'm so excited about today.Good luck England.

I think that new Twix bar sounds a bit rubbish. A low calorie alternative is not what the doctor ordered.

Will someone please get me out of this football nightmare. I can't escape it everywhere I look.

Even our chocolates have been infected by the world cup virus.

I can forgive the World Cup themed Mars (even though I am rooting for the England men's team :D)...but not that ghastly Flake ad lol.

Am I the only person who has not seen a World Cup ad on TV (yet)? So far only a news report about the new footballs -- and a couple of internet travel ads -- though it sounds like this is a good thing.

I can't think of a world cup themed advert to be honest, I don't watch much TV these days. But I do think the promotions are a bit lame, they could have done a different flavoured Mars or something? I mean as you said in america they do new flavours to coincide with film launches etc. Speaking of Mars I got the dark chocolate Mars icecream bars yesterday, very very tasty, but a bit pricey (£3 for 5 small bars!)

Btw Jim I see there's some new Elizabeth Shaw chocolates out:

http://www.talkingretail.com/products/product-news/15396-luxurious-additions-to-elizabeth-shaw-range.html

"The four flavours in the Elizabeth Shaw Flutes range are Mint, Orange, Amaretto and Latte Macchiato white chocolate with a coffee chocolate centre."

Alan said...

@ Phil those Elizabeth Shaw Flutes sound nice. They look abit like they are in the same style as those After Eight Stick things, but more adventurous and probably much nicer lol. I like the way theyve got two classic flavours and two modern flavours!

Also on Talking Retail:

yep, a Duo KitKat Caramel - why oh why must Nestle inflict that horrible thing on us even more lol I honestly can't believe its sold so well. Grr.

Thanks for the love Jim!

It could have been worse- I could have referenced David Tennant instead of Hugh Grant!

I really did love the hobnobs though!

Everyone

The football was an anti-climax wasn't it :( well done USA for getting a draw.

You guys all seem to be pretty much saying similar things so I will just respond to the direct questions.

Nick - I don't like it either. I think they were going down the artistic route and really missed the mark.

Steven - I wont reveal what I have been sent as I want there to be some sort of surprise :D first review up on the 21st I believe.

Rory - Hi welcome to the site. Be sure to stick around and add your thoughts. The folk round here are great.

Alan - Glad when the football is over :O my god boy! I wouldn't worry to be honest .. judging by last nights performance you might not have to waite long :D

Thea - Are you the only person not to see a world cup themed ad!? Err yes probably :D How can you miss them? I love Mars ice creams - they are one of my faves.

Phil - Hey Phil thanks for sharing that article I will be sure to keep a look out for them. I think I saw them in Waitrose the other day. I will buy them next time I am in there.

Alan#2 - Caramel duo ... fail on the part of Nestle.

GiGi - My pleasure :D Hugh Grant is one of my favourite actors actually. About a Boy is one of my favourite films ever.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate you guys posting the news articles I miss. It is really hard keeping up to date so please be sure to keep doing this.
