Kcal 540 Fat 33.0g Fat(sats) 18.3g Carbs 55.5g (per 100.0g)Following swiftly on from my review of Milka's 'Chocolate Pleasure' variety two weeks ago, I today have the 'pleasure' of bringing you my views on yet another of their latest seasonal offerings. Named similarly to the aforementioned variety, this Milch-Toffee Genuss (translation: Milk Toffee Pleasure) came billed as 'Alpine milk chocolate with milk cream and caramel-coffee flavoured caramel. Admittedly Milka seasonal varieties haven't always set my world on fire, but as you may have noticed this was a combination of two of my all time favourite ingredients. It was going to be interesting to see if Milka could bring the best out of the both of them with their milk chocolate.
This new flavour has been introduced in to Milka's standard range, so it came in a 100.0g form. As you will see above the packaging didn't look much different to any other variety within the Milka portfolio, though I thought the flavour combination could have been communicated a little more clearly as the branding didn't pass reference to the coffee content, nor did the on pack coffee bean pictures really stand out that much. That aside the chocolate blocks looked pleasant on the eye, with the dual layered filling of inner creme and caramel nicely visible sandwiched in between the outer portions of milk chocolate.
Sealed within the usual resealable film material, the chocolate was maintained in a nice, fresh state and the coffee and caramel smells that radiated from the bar when I opened it only further went to heighten my anticipation. In the context of all mass produced chocolates, the creamy, sweet, hazelnut noted taste of Milka alpine milk sits just a little below the likes of Cadbury and Galaxy in my estimation, though it did as finer job as ever providing a more than adequate chocolate flavour hit with each mouthful. The melt and flavour flow of the chocolate was typically smooth, and led nicely into two fillings that sat below. Trying to describe the two components in isolation would be a bit of pointless thing to do due to them blending together during the melt, though it is worth passing comment that their textures nicely complimented each other, with the drier creme being nicely moistened by the liquidity of the caramel. In terms of flavours I'm glad to say that this was one of the best flavoured Milka centres I have had for a long while. The coffee element wasn't the strongest tasting ever (think milky mocha rather than espresso!!), though it registered nicely on the pallet, and the burnt sugar and caramel flavours brought to life the toffee element to great effect. I ate the 100.0g totality across three separate sittings and felt a decent degree of satisfaction each time due to the volume of the taste it offered.
Overall I must admit that I had started to become a little sceptical at the quality of some of Milka's latest flavours, but this Milch-Toffee Genuss has put them back on the right track in my mind. Off the top of my head I can't think of a coffee, caramel alternative (come on someone put me straight there must be one!!) so straight away this got a tick in my mind as it was at least a unique flavour combination. Having tasted it, I can now upgrade that initial tick, to an even bigger one :D Milka executed this collaboration of caramel and coffee terrifically, and made a chocolate that was both nicely progressive in taste and very flavoursome. If I had my own way I would have made more of the coffee element in this chocolate, however I understand the strength at which it was implemented given the tastes of a typical Milka consumer being more inclined to a weaker offering. If you have tried any of Milka's toffee or caramel chocolate varieties before and enjoyed them, I would recommend this as another you will want to take a look at.

This one sounds nice. That is a pretty incredible rating for a Milka chocolate. I keep meaning to buy their caramel to see how it stacks up to Dairy milk. Thanks for the review.
I'm still not the biggest fan of Milka. I find it a less creamy version of dairy milk that is thinner when its melting. I don't mind it, but I wouldn't buy it over Cadbury ever.
Wow I didn't realise this had coffee in it until I wasa long way through your review. They don't make it very clear on the packaging or in the name do they. You would have though they could have called it Milk-Toffee Coffee. I would have been a bit annoyed if I had bought it not expecting it.

Yummy this sounds very nice. I hope they start selling it here.
Has this replaced the milka daim as your fave? I'm assuming that was your one beforehand because it is the one you mention the most. I would love to give this a try someday.
Whenever I'm treating myself in Costa I always ask for a shot caramel syrup to be added to my mocha. I think this is a chocolate that would really suit me. I dont like coffee and chocolate together that much but I think this would be one I would like.
I love the way the middle bit looks. The cream bit and caramel looks well funky. I always wonder how they make those sort of ones so precisely lol.
Back to reviewing stuff we can't buy then lol It didn't take you long.
I had a look for that milkybar you wrote about yesterday but I didn't have any luck.
When Milka bring out new flavours are they generally only out for a limited time (limited edition) or do they just keep adding them to all the existing ones? They appear to come out with three new ones each month. It must be impossible to fit them all on the shelves.
I wonder you know - are Kraft going to start sacrificing dairy milk for milka in the UK. It wouldn't surprise me if they were arrogant enough to think that people who eat dairy milk would just buy milka if they swapped them. I hope they don't.
I would consider trying this if I ever saw it. I tried the milka caramel bar a while ago and thought it was pretty decent. My only annoyance was that it came in such a big bar. I wouldn't ever buy it to eat outside of my house because its too big.
Yay Milka :-)
I don't know why but I always love hearing about what they are up to. I think its because I love cows. The ones that make milka must be so happy they make loads of people smile because of the chocolate they go towards making. I love happy cows chocolate.
How do Milka and Dairy Milk compare when it comes to cocoa solids? Which one of them has more?
If I was to guess I would go for Dairy Milk being stronger.
I can't eat any of Milkas chocolates because they all have nuts in. I find it deeply frustrating.
The problem I have with Milka is that all their chocolates are very similar. All the flavours they make always end up being 'milk cream + ....' or 'nuts + ....'. I can't remember them ever doing anything with flavours like mint or orange or anything like that.
A 9 for taste. This has to be something pretty special.
The idea isn't very new but I eat it if I was offered it. Milka's caramel chocolate is worth trying for anyone that hasn't yet.
@Alex: They do have an Amavel orange one and that one is not in their regular alpine milk chocolate, but in a higher cocoa content milk chocolate which I like a lot better because even though it still has hazelnut paste in it, the cocoa taste is stronger. I'm not a hazelnut fan so I really don't enjoy the taste of their regular alpine milk chocolate... even though I really like the texture. That's why I prefer the Milka bars done with their higher cocoa content chocolate. My taste buds like it better and it still has the same nice texture.
And I'm not a fan of milk cream or coffee either, but this bar somehow balanced everything right for me. I really liked how the flavours mixed. It's certainly one of my favourite Milka bars made with their regular alpine milk chocolate and not with their intense cocoa chocolate (along with the Chocolate Dessert and the Chocolate Cream & Strawberry - I don't really like the smell of this last one, but fortunately, it tastes a lot better than it smells). And this Milk Toffee Pleasure is also one of the best looking Milkas when cross-sectioned.
@Jim: I was really curious how you would like this bar given the fact you like stronger coffee-flavoured chocolates better and the coffee element wasn't too strong in this one. For me, this was one of the reasons I really liked it. I don't think I would have liked it better with less coffee either - I really enjoyed how the flavours are balanced.
I like the milka caramel so I would garner great hopes for this one if the opportunity came around for me to try it.
I've only just noticed your Jim's chocolatemission amazon shop. Is that something ou have started running by yourself?
You just got to love milka whatever they do. Steven you make a good point about how they get the filling bit done. It must be really hard keeping the two parts of the middle from just merging into each other.
It's an interesting flavour combination that I wouldn't necessarily prioritise trying myself. Thats not to say I wouldn't try it if someone offered me the chance to do so. I would be more than happy to.
This certainly sounds a unique flavour combination! I'd certainly try it given the chance, the coffee elemant wouldn't be to tatse perhaps but I'd still like to try it.
Did you know 'Milka' was originally made by Suchards, created in 1901? In much the same way as DM is by cadburys?

and two vintage packages:

I find it intriguing that Kraft have bought two brands which have very similar style and brand history in each of their respective countries. Pure coincidence I know, but interesting all the same :)
I would be interested in hearing if anyone has an answer to Duncans question about cocoa levels in dairy milk and milka. I would expect they are broadly similar, but I would expect Milka to have more milk solids.
I love hearing about all the flavours that milka come up with. Thanks for the reviews.
PART 1
Nick
It is high scoring for Milka you are right. You can find the caramel bar pretty easily now. I know Tesco and Sainsburys stock it.
David
I have to agree with this. Dairy Milk is still slightly to my preference aswell. I'm always more than happy to eat Milk though :D
Rachel
It's not made clear by the packaging at all is it. To be honest it I hadn't of been aware of it before I tasted it I probably wouldn't have pulled out the flavour contribution straight away.
Anon
Haha I wouldn't hold your hopes high waiting for it.
Golden
Thats a tough call that I'm going to refuse to answer :D Both have an appropriate occasion in my book :D
Sally
Do you? I never bother with those syrup shots things? I always just take my coffee straight and black so I don't usually ever consider them.
Steven
The dual layering creates a cool effect doesn't it. It looks nice up close in real life.
Richard
Sorry chap. It was only going to be so many days for the UK reviews. You know I like to eat my way round the globe.
Mark
It depends. A lot of them are seasonal editions (like Ritter make!). A few of them do end up staying around though. I think this one was just going to be available for a limited period though.
Louise
I said this the other day - I can't see this happening anytime soon. Imagine the fuss that would be kicked up if they started removing Dairy Milk flavours. People would riot :D
Roy
The Milka caramel is decent isn't it. Promisingly we did see Milka start to bring out smaller 40.0g impulse bars on their normal Alpine chocolate and Daim bars recently. I would expect to see more of them soon.
Lauren
You love cows? Haha that did make me laugh a bit. I'm not the biggest of Happy Cows fans sorry. I think Milka white chocolate isn't particularly great.
Duncan
Shamefully I don't know the levels for Milka off the top of my head. Last time I looked at Dairy Milk it said cocoa solids min 20% (actual 23%). I would expect them to be pretty similar.
Anon
Damn - they all have hazelnut in don't they. That is a shame.
Alex
Hmmm I'm not sure I'm with you on that point. I think that they do a nice variety of fruits, caramel, milk creams and nut options. I believe they have a mint option coming out soon aswell.
Ana has handily pointed out a few options you might be interested in.
PART 2
Warren
Well it was damn tasty put it that way.
Justin
The idea isn't new? Hmmmm I disagree. I can't think of another that offers a caramel/coffee combination.
Ana
So you're not a fan of milk cream or coffee ... yet you loved this? I love your bizarre musings sometimes :D
I do agree with you about it looking splendid when you cut in to it. I'm not so sure I shared your delight in the coffee being mild though .. an extra coffee flavour boost would have been very welcome for me.
Interesting input as ever Ana thanks!
Paul
I will fill you guys in about the shop on Saturdays roundup post! Sorry I meant to do that last week but forgot.
Karen
I think it isn't that hard because the milk cream bit is pretty viscous which means the toffee bit just sat on top nicely.
Joel
It's good to hear that you are open to trying things. I always think everyone should try everything once :D
Alan
The coffee plays a pretty understated role so yeah you might like it's influence a bit more here.
I had no idea that Milka was owned by someone else before. The vintage wrappers look nice and everything but I do think I prefer them now.
I think Krafts decision to buy Cadbury was more competition based rather than acquiring a differentiated brand for it's portfolio.
Ganesh
Sorry chap - I have given the cocoa levels for Dairy Milk above but I'm not sure on Milka.
Vhiarhi
My pleasure - you might be able to tell I enjoy writing them.
Thanks everyone. I would love to entice you with a cheeky insight in to what is due up tomorrow but I can't remember ... just check out the site to find out :D
JIM
a minimum of 30% cocoa solids in the alpine milk chocolate (from milka.de)
Oh I've no doubt that's true lol its just interesting that the companies are quite similar :)
I too like the modern wrappers better and its not often I say that about modern wrappers! lol I like the fact they kept the Milka logo though, it looks very modern despite its age.
Mmmmmmmmm toffee and coffee sounds amazing together.
I'm not a fan of Milk Chocolate, but I have to admit the description for the coffee & toffee one sounds very tasty.
Funny how the wrapping look a lot like the WIlly Wonka brand.
Hmmmmm...

I like the sound of this. Coffee caramel sounds very tasty. The only other one I recall similar to this was the Twix Cappucino.
Coffee and caramel sounds brilliant. I was just thinking they should add biscuit when I read Phil's comment on the Twix cappuccino. I didn't know Kraft owns Milka, too? I sincerely hope they don't change local recipes to favor only one country's tastebuds. I also see the answer to my question, CM shop details next Saturday, lol this is what I get for reading the CM backlog out of order ;)
Ana
Thanks for the info Ana! I'm surprised to hear the cocoa is above 25%. That must be a minimuim level aswell.
Alan
I've always thought the logo is cool aswell. I do like companies that keep a nice grounding in their heritage. Saying that, I don't it sometimes when companies update their logos to look a bit more modern ... it's a bit of a catch 22 isn't it :D
Finite / Got Chocolate
It wasn't a bad combination no :D It couldn't of been to get such a score.
Phil
Ahhh you have a great memory! The Twix Java/Cappuccino is absolutely fantastic. I think most people must agree because Mars recently brought it back out. It back on the market now.
Thea
They certainly do own Milka! I'm sure Milka isn't under threat from any changes. I'm 100% sure that Milka and Dairy Milk will be ran by completely different teams within Kraft. I wouldn't expect any differences on either anytime soon.
Indeed the details about the shop will be up on Saturday. I wouldn't get too excited for the minute :D
Thanks everyone
JIM
This combination sounds like a perfect match. Nothing I love more than toffee and chocolate.
