Nestle Toffee Crisp - Kcal 99 Fat 5.2g Fat(sats) 3.4g Carbs 9.2g (per bar)
These bars come described as 'biscuit pieces, crisped cereal and caramel, covered in milk chocolate'. Those of you who have never read my original Nestle Toffee Crisp review will want to take a look HERE. The Toffee Crisp has always been a bit of favourite of mine (hence the 8.5 out of 10 rating!), though reasons unbeknown to myself I had never tried these biscuit bars. In stature they were around a quarter of the size of an original bar but the only difference I noticed visually (apart from scale!) were the small bits of biscuit amongst the rice cereal centre. I would love to say that the biscuit pieces had a massive impact on the taste, but to be honest it was still the chocolate and toffee caramel elements that dominated each bite. Just like the normal sized bars these were still a little unsubstantial due to the light airy centres. More importantly though they were still every bit as delicious with their mixture of sweet caramel and chocolate flavours, and the variety of textures were still as varied and glorious. I would buy them again for our tea room - they are just great for just a little chocolaty snack.

Nestle Yorkie Biscuit Bar - Kcal 123 Fat 6.2g Fat(sats) 3.6g Carbs 10.3g
Having just reviewed a biscuit bar version of one of my favourite Nestle products, I now move on to one of my lesser favoured offerings of theirs. Looking back at my review of the Nestle Yorkie Original (See HERE) I must have been in a good mood as think my score of 7.8 out of 10 was probably a little generous - it is only just a bar of average tasting milk chocolate after all. Anyway the notorious £1 deals in my local Tesco persuaded me to give these Yorkie biscuit bars a try and they came billed as 'bourbon biscuits covered with milk chocolate'. To my surprise I actually enjoyed these a whole lot more than I thought I would. My views on the quality of the chocolate haven't changed (a fair standard, cheap recipe sugary milk chocolate), but the biscuit just gave a little bit extra to the total Yorkie experience. It was crunchy and buttery in taste and offered a minor suggestion of salt - it quite simply provided a normal chocolate biscuit experience but with an added dose of average tasting milk chocolate which resultingly made it a little more substantial snack wise. I would be more than happy to buy them again.

Kellogg's Pop Tarts Chocotastic - Kcal 198 Fat 6.0g Fat(Sats) 2.5g Carbs 17.0g (per tart)
After a few reader requests I finally caved in and gave these Kellogg's Pop Tarts a try. If you look on the several American food importer websites, Pop Tarts are big business in America and the seem to offer an never ending number of different flavours. In the UK it appears we only have the two - including of course this 'Chocotastic' variety. On the box they came described as 'chocolate flavour filling in a frosted pastry', the nutritional information and ingredients list revealed that each tart mainly consisted of sugar! To test drive these out I replaced my usual bowl of breakfast cereal with two of these toasted Pop Tarts. In terms of taste the outer portions of each tart were quite nice and I thought the chocolate pastry, although a tad dry, was pleasant when washed down with milk. At first I also found the centre bit reasonably tasty with it's chocolate syrup flavours, but it wasn't long before I found it overbearing in terms of it's sweetness and I couldn't stomach over half of the second tart. Personally I don't think I will be replacing my usual cereal with these anytime soon. They might be nice as the odd treat but I just can't imagine anyone being able to eat them everyday! They get a very, very generous score of 7 out of 10 for taste.

I hate Pop Tarts they are horrid things.
For a time I used to eat them for breakfast but I soon grew out of them. They are alright for kids but I wouldn't touch one nowadays.
Yay I love bits and bobs reviews thanks Jim.
My favourite of all biscuit bar chocolates are toffee crisps. I like kit kats aswell but given the choice I would always choose the toffee crisp.
Dx
Lol I can't believe you scored the Yorkie biscuit better than the normal yorkie. They should reconsider which one they sell in the shops lol. Ive never tried the biscuit version but I might well do now.
Pop Tarts have never appealed to me. I think it is best I dont ever try them.
Omg Jim how can you not like Pop Tarts? You did toast them right?
I will admit they are disgusting and bland if you dont heat them, but if you toast them they are lush.
I am with you about Toffee Crisps they are amazing. I havent ever noticed any difference between the small ones you buy in the supermarket and the ones you buy in the shops.
Great reviews Jim I love see the variety of different products.
My brother loves pop tarts but he has to have the strawberry ones because my mum says he shouldnt eat chocolate for breakfast. I have no idea how he can eat something so sweet early in the morning, it would make me feel ill.
Lol I love toffee crisps.
Rxxx
Yorkie biscuits are so bad. The chocolate they make them with just tastes horrible to me.
I am far more partial to the toffee crisps because they have the caramel bit in them to distract you away from the crappy chocolate.
The Yorkie seems interesting, I think I'd like to try that. The other two... I don't really think I'd bother.
Hey Jim
I think you should try out some more pop tarts flavours if you can. I dont think the ones we get here in england are a real reflection of how nice some of them are. Some of the good ones are the cookies and creme and apple strudel flavours you can buy from america. You will like them loads more.
Bits and bobs reviews are the best :)
I know I shouldnt be eating yorkies (because they arent for girls lol) but I really like them because you get a nice amount of chocolate with each one. The problem with a lot of these biscuit chooclates is that you get hardly any chocolate on them nowadays. At least with a yorkie one you get loads.
@Golden Lol Jim scored the normal Yorkie exactly the same, not better.
Jim can I add another product for you to review please. Can you please review viscount biscuits? Thanks.
Toffee Crisps > All the others.
If I had free choice of any chocolate bar in the world it would be a toffee crisp. I adore them! They have to be the perfect snack.
Dont worry jim you arent alone in your hatred of pop tarts. They are very sickly. When I used to eat them sometimes I would end up eating all the outer pastry bits and then throwing away the sugary stuff in the middle. I never thought it tasted anything like chocolate either. I never buy them anymore.
TC - 8/10
Yorkie - 4/10
Pop Tarts - n/a
I cant say anything about pop tarts because i have never had them before. Toffee crisps are so much better than yorkies are though. The anonymous person is right about chocolate not being nice in either of them but to be fair at least in the toffee crisp you get loads of cereal and caramel. Mmmm I could go for one right now lol.
Im a little surprised that you can give the normal yorkie bar a 7.8 and you give that galaxy one yesterday a 7.2!
Do you really think that Yorkie chocolate is nicer than Galaxy? I dont think so myself.
More importantly though they were still every bit as delicious with their mixture of sweet caramel and chocolate flavours, and the variety of textures were still as varied and glorious.
I share your love for Toffee Crisps :) They are yummy.
They might be nice as the odd treat but I just can't imagine anyone being able to eat them everyday! They get a very, very generous score of 7 out of 10 for taste.
Lol what were you thinking? They are rancid pop tarts. A seven is very nice of you.
I always have to fight my brother to get to the toffee crisps if they are what my mum has bought. They are one of the things that get eaten within a few days of mum buying them. I dont think we have ever had the yorkie ones. I will have to request them considering you say they are nearly just as good.
I dont eat pop tarts for breakfast but sometimes as a dessert. I see what you mean about them being too sweet and sugary in the morning. I dont even eat breakfast now, I just choose to sleep longer lol.
I want to defend Pop Tarts here I think they are a lot better than you make out. Yeah I admit they are a bit sickly if you eat two but if you just stick to one they are the nicest chocolate thing you can get early in the morning. All the chocolate cereals they make nowadays are rubbish. Has anyone tried the new choc roll coco pops? They are honestly the worst cereal ever.
Lol I liked your reviews but I dont like any of these in particular.
Toffee crisps have got progressively worse over time. Not only have they got loads smaller but they used to have much better toffee than they do now. It used to be more like toffee than the sugary goo they have in it now. The chocolate is also made with more sugar.
Yorkies have always been rubbish. I have never bothered trying them with the biscuit in like this but I cant imagine they are much better.
I have never tried a pop tart and I dont have any real motivation to do so. They sound horrid.
You have got me in a Toffee Crisp mood now Im going to have to buy one sometime today lol. I've never been a fan of the yorkie, I dont see the sense in it really, I would always just rather buy a dairy milk.
Sorry to hear about Valencia's injury Jim. He is the only United player I like, best wishes to him.
Ive always thought that nestle were missing a trick with their toffee crisp bar. Its by far the best thing they make out of all their products yet they never advertise it or make any new flavours up. Dont get confused I love kit kats but give me the choice between the two and I would pick the TC everytime. The Drifter is also another one they just ignore which they shouldnt do.
Jim you did toast the pop tarts right? Lol if you dont bother heating them up they are wrank.
I think I had one pop tart ever in my whole life, think it was "blueberry". That was ages ago when I was a kid and even then I found it sickingly sweet and artificial!
Btw has anyone else seen the new Cadbury product I stumbled over in Morrisons yesterday? They were things similar to Tunnocks Tea Cakes but with a Turkish delight centre and obviously. Typical purple cadbury packaging with a "New" logo on them (oddly enough I can not seem to find any info on teh net about them). Morrisons offered them for £1 and they appeared to be quite popular. I just barely kept myself from buying a packet as I would like to try them but I still have enough sweet treats lying around at home... Though as a vanilla-holic I am more looking forward to trying the new Bliss when it comes out. *g*
I like Toffee Crisps and the biscuit version. I like the Yprkie biscuits but I used to like the actual Yorkie much better before Nestle meddled with the recipe grrr
As for Pop Tarts the only thing I ever rememeber about them is that when I was a kid back in the late 80's/early 90's consumers complained about being burnt by the fillings getting too hot, and even starting fires in the toaster! they were withdrawn from the UK martket after that for a long time and I seem to recall Kelloggs being sued by several people who were badly burnt or had been fire victims.
Pop Tarts are one of my favourite snacks ever but I agree with Jim I could never eat them everyday, that would be just horrible.
I have never seen the fascination that people have with toffee crisps. My friend is obsessed with both them and double deckers, she never buys anything apart from those two. Thats just boring.
Haha Pop Tarts take me back a bit. There was a time when I used to have them pretty often before school during the winter when I wanted something hot for breakfast. They were one of those things that always sounded loads nicer than they ever actually were. Chocolate and pastry sounds like a combination made in heaven but pop tarts dont make the best of it.
I do love Bits & Bobs reviews Jim, thanks for doing them :)
The toffee crisp biscuits are nice, I love the texture the most. I don't think I've ever been too fussed on the Yorkie biscuits, they seem a little tasteless to me. I'm sure that 5 years ago they tasted better than now, maybe they've reduced the fat content?
I can't comment on the pop tarts, yet again something I can't eat due to them containing gelatine. I used to have them as a kid though and loved them then.
@Anne - I saw it. I didn't pay much attention but they looked like some sort of Halloween product?
The poptarts look comparable to our chocolate fudge variety. Of the chocolate poptarts I think the smores variety reigns supreme..I'll have to get some across the pond.
Bits and bobs rules them all :) None of these are things I have often but I would happily eat any of the three.
I sometimes get cravings for pop tarts but I can only stomach the one lol. The strawberry flavoured ones are the superior btw.
Yorkies arent for girls so I dont eat them lol. Last time I had one it was nice enough but nothing special.
Toffee Crisps are decent but I still dont buy them much. I dont really know why not.
@Phil @Anne are you both not just talking about the turkish delight biscuits they now make? They are sorta newish.
@ Phil - no I don't think it had any relevance to Halloween. No bats, ghosts or pumpkins etc on the wrapper. ;-)
Toffee Crisp, Yorkie and Pop Tarts all in one review? That certainly makes up for my disappointment at yesterdays review ;) I've not tried the biscuit versions of the Toffee Crisp and Yorkies but will certainly add them to my next shopping last as I'm a big fan of both of the sweet versions.
I could eat Pop Tarts for fun but I can see whay you'd struggle with a second one as they are very sweet. I wish we had far more varieties over here as just having the 2 now are boring. We used to have at least 4 varieties (strawberry with no frosting, frosted strawberry and chocolate) but I can't remember the forth, anyone remember what it could be?
Thanks again Jim
@ Nick - no definitely not the biscuits. Marshmallow stuff with Turkish Delight centre, chocolate biscuit base and covered in chocolate.
@Ria I think it may have been Blueberry but its many many years since I bought a Pop Tart so don't hold me to that haha

Hi All,
Bits n Bobs seems to have gone down well again today. Im glad the majority of you seem to enjoy these posts :D Me reviewing the Pop Tarts seems to have stirred the hornets nest a little though doesnt it :D It seems to me like a lot of people fall in the love them or hate groups. I think I will just hang in the middle and say they are ok on occasion.
Right you lot let me answer some of your musings ...
Golden - I think you will find they both got a 7.8 out of 10 chap. Remember they do make the Yorkie with biscuit and raisin, it is rare to find nowadays mind you.
Justin - Of course I toasted them :D I didn't know they were even edible if you didn't do that.
Ana / Kim - Sorry girls but Yorkies aren't for girls :D Have you not the seen the TV advert haha!
Andrew - I would try some more of the Pop Tart flavours if I could. I only ever see the chocolate or strawberry ones in the stores though. Apple Strudel flavour sounds bizarre.
David - Viscounts are on the radar chap dont you worry. Expect to see them sometime soon.
Harry - There is a lot of love coming in for the Toffee Crisp.
Estelle - I never said I hated Pop Tarts at all. I'm just not particularly fussed by them.
Tricky - I wish more people would leave their own subjective scores. I'm still looking into a way of incorporating some sort of feature into the site.
Emma - Generally I would say no I dont. Remember taste is only one of the factors that makes up the eventual score e.g. I would say a Yorkie is far more satisfying than the Galaxy truffle from yesterday.
Katie - As I said 7 out of 10 was pretty generous. In the right situation Pop Tarts can be nice, you just dont want to eat them in vast quantities.
Anon - Skipping breakfast? That is just madness!
Mysterio - I dont have any real urge to try that new coco pops cereal but if/when I decide to do a chocolate cereal post I may well get around to trying it.
Robert - Its good to read you still find my reviews entertaining even though you dont like the content. Sorry about that - better luck tomorrow!?
Nigel - I hope you got your toffee crisp fix. The injury last night was horrific, I really felt for the poor guy.
Mark - I totally agree with you. They have almost abused the Toffee Crisp and Drifter bars over the last few years. I seem to remember Alan saying that the Drifter has really suffered in terms of quality recently aswell. Im yet to scope that out for myself yet.

The idea of writing my replies like this now was that I would end up repeating myself (thus not having to write essays!) ... Im still managing to write more than I am allowed in one comment though :D what you guys say is all too interesting ... thus I blame you :D
Paul - I did say in the review that I put them in the toaster!
Anne - You have me intrigued by these Cadbury Turkish Delight Tea Cakes now! If you ever see them again sneak a picture or something. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for them now. I am still on the watch out for the Cadbury Bliss ... the day I get it in I will post my review. Its not due out until October!
Alan - It must have been the 90s because I think I remember that. Didn't we used to get those products called 'Hot Pockets' aswell? I remember they used to have melted cheese in the middle which was like molten lava haha I remember people kicking up a fuss about them burning themselves aswell. Do people not get these products are coming from a hot place haha!?
Nick - It was always Redybrek before school for me.
Phil - Cheers chap glad you enjoy them. It seems both you and Alan think the Yorkie recipe has changed. I haven't consumed many of them in my time so I unfortunately dont have an opinion on it myself.
Roddy - You guys get a crazy amount of flavours dont you! Some of them do sound pretty interesting I have to admit.
Phil / Anne - Oh no you guys have reminded me it is Halloweeen coming up :(
Ria - I'm glad I have managed to suit your tastes a little better with todays lot :D Aren't there just two flavours of Pop Tarts? I have never seen anymore than the chocolate and the frosted strawberry myself. That said they aren't a thing I really look out for.
Thanks again for all the nice words about the Bits n Bobs reviews. I will endeavour to get a few more in before the end of the year. If you have any product requests then be sure to leave them in the requests section or on this review.
JIM
lol I know - i never understood it really - what did they expect it to be- cold? I always thought the fact they caught fire strange too - i dunno how long you toast them but I'm sure theyd have to be ina while for it start a fire! I saw those Hot Pockets not long ago - theyre still around! haha
When I mention 4 flavours of Pop Tarts, I'm going waaaaay back to my youth! There was definitely both frosted and unfrosted strawberry and chocolate. I've just done a little investigating and I can't believe I Managed to forget the 4th as it was the best of them all! Alan, I also had it in the back of my mind that it was blueberry but it was in fact... apple/cinnamon. As soon as I read that flavour it all came flooding back. Man I miss those!
Great Bits and Bobs review. lol, I haven't had a Pop Tart since I was 6, once at a friend's house. It was strawberry, and at the time I loved it. I didn't know they were still popular (pun unintended :D), I have seen them in the supermarkets recently in visiting the US, but have had no urge to try one again...unless someone offers me a chocolate one of course.
