You can expect a tremendous amount of Christmas themed chocolates to be appearing on the site in the next few months, and what better way to get things really going than by looking at one of Ritter Sport's Winter-Kreation seasonal offerings? It simply wouldn't be a calendar season without Ritter coming out with a few new flavours - for winter this year we have yet another three for us all to enjoy. The first one I'm showcasing today is this Nuss in Nugatcreme flavour, which came billed as 'milk chocolate with a nougat cream filling, chopped hazelnuts and rice flakes'.
All three of these new Winter-Kreation flavours come up in the standard 100.0g size aswell as the mini block format for those that prefer their chocolate in more manageable sizes (yes I will be cut and pasting that sentence for the other two upcoming reviews :D ). In terms of presentation its nice to see that Ritter have been a bit adventurous with their packaging for these new bars. My family and I thought they looked suitably seasonal with the on-pack pictures of a frosty winter chalet appearing both artistic and appropriate to the brand. Beneath the plastic foil material the chocolate came presented in the standard 4x4 quadrant, and looked interesting on the eye with several particles evident amongst the well portioned cream centre.
Taking in the aromas being offered by the chocolate the smells were immediately familiar and smelt similar to the Ritter Sport Schokocreme bar I reviewed back in August, but just with some minor suggestions of some sort of nut content. It really wont take me long to describe the taste of this particular flavour because of it's similarity to that aforementioned variant. The outer milk chocolate, chocolate cream and rice cereal all delivered exactly the same experience. The chocolate tasted sweet and milky, with the rice establishing a minor note of biscuity cereal with its crunchy additive textural feel. As I was both hoping for (and expecting!) the small fragments of chopped hazelnut took the flavour development on a stage further, bringing notes of woody nuttyness to each block. It wasn't the most satisfying or rich chocolate I have ever tasted, but a four block portion proved a suitable amount for just a light snack.
Overall this was probably the least exciting sounding flavour in the new Winter-Kreation range so I was unsurprised by the minor sense of mediocrity I felt after eating it. Ritter Sport have created a number of very similar variants in 2010, I have already mentioned the Schokocreme flavour, whilst you may also remember the Haselnuss Krokant which I featured back in April. Discarding the fact it wasn't anything that differentiated from those prior offerings, it was still a pleasant bar in it's own right and the added dose of hazelnut to the party certainly made it superior to the duller tasting Schokocreme. I don't wish to spoil my other two upcoming Winter-Kreation reviews but I can ensure you there are better things to come from Ritter for this holiday period. For that reason alone I'm not sure I would be that keen to buy this flavour again so quickly.

lol I was wondering where these guys had been. We had almost gone a month without them releasing a new flavour lol.
I'm only joking around. I would love it if we had someone like Ritter.
You are starting your christmas reviews already? I'm not complaining but it seems an awfully long time away still - you must have a lot of chocolate to review between now and then if you think you can post two months worth ;)
This looks nice but I could have sworn I have seen you review this type of flavour before.
Do Ritter find it impossible to create a chocolate without putting nuts in it?
Its true they make loads of flavours, but if you don't like nuts I think their range is still very limited. I wouldn't try this one, but I'm looking forward to seeing what the others are :)
Great review Jim. I have cheated and already looked up what the other two bars are in this new set of three. This one sounds alright but I am way more excited about the other two.
There is one especially that I'm really keen to see your review on. Lol I bet you save it until last.
I love the wrappers they look so Christmasey!!!!! I wish our brands here would make a big deal out of Christmas like the German ones do.
If you look at the likes of Lindt/ritter/milka etc they all make so many Christmas themed chocoaltes. The people living in Germany get so spoilt.
Rxxx
Thank you for the review Jim! I think I'm a bit hazelnut-out at present. I've had so many different chocolates with hazelnut in recently it's all getting a bit samey for me. It would have been nice to see Ritter try something a little different but that must be hard for them given the amount of the flavours they have created already lol.
Mmmmmm the nuts in that filling look so good. I love it when you can see what is meant to be inside.
Yum this sounds like the sort of chocolate I would love.
I've only recently started experimenting with chocolates like giandujas so I haven't tried out that many chocolates like this one before.
Thanks for the heads up on this one Jim. If I can find somewhere that stocks it I will try it.
I'm really excited to see what the other flavours are now I've seen this one. The packaging is very different for Ritter, normally their chocolates are instantly recognisable but I had to double take this one to register it was Ritter (I think it still looks cool btw).
Thank you for another great review mate.

They didn't think too hard in the thinking-tank when they made this one up did they :) It's almost like they just decided to merge those two bars together. It's a bit silly that we have three different bars when they could have just made the one.
Are they ever going to be making some more white chocolates?
The bar of theirs that I really like is their white chocolate with hazelnut, I buy that bar all the time. Apart from that one they never release any white chocolates :( Surely they have to for Christmas.
Ritter are such a nightmare. I can't buy any of their chocolate because of my nut problem :-( It's such a shame because so many of their chocolates sound so nice.
If I find a bar of theirs I can eat outside the house I might try some more of their chocolate. Until that day they are a no-go zone for me unfortunately.
This sounds very similar to a variety which is avaiable in Germany all year. So rather uncreative. But Ritter isn't my first choice when it comes to Christmas treats anyway. As someone else says, people in Germany get so spoiled for choice. Yes, we do. Makes watching the waist line a nightmare when I am over there. ;-)
The other two Ritter Winter flavours sound a bit more promising, especially curious to see what you say about the Vanille Kipferl (and also the Orange marzipan actually since you reviewed the Nideregger Orange marzipan mini bar not that long ago). Sadly no Spekulatius this year. Missed to try it last year.
Thank you for the review jim it's always nice seeing what new flavours these people come up with.
Do you know if Ritter have any plans making more of their business here in England? I think loads more people would love their chocolate if they actually knew who they were.
Why do they have to put nuts in everything :( Grrrrrr not everyone is mad keen on them you know Ritter.
The Christmas reviews are coming already? Dare I ask if this means we are going to start seeing some of the Hotel Chocolate Christmas chocolates soon?
Lol I have been licking my lips at them for weeks now. I'm saving up buying any of it until you say what it is good though :)
Dx
Great review Jim. Anything these guys make with hazelnut and chocolate is good in my books. I still think their dark with hazelnut chocolate is the best thing they make but I haven't tried a load of the latest flavours they have in Germany yet.
You must think I know nothing about football lol. My predictions were horribly off again. Better luck next week.
They have to be running out of ideas of flavours because I swear they have done something like this before. It sounds like it is exactly the same as their praline bar but just with a few chunky bits of hazelnut thrown in.
Sorry if that sounds like a damning conclusion, it's not really. I would love to see the likes of mars and cadburys take ritter's lead and create some more interesting flavours for their chocolates.
Its such a good idea making seasonal varieties. If you like them then they are round long enough to buy a load of them and stock up ....... on the other side of the coin if they turn out a bit rubbish then they will be gone before you know it. It makes so much sense to do things like that.
Ritter are so cool. Am I imagining things or don't they now own Chocri?
I have either totally made that up or I read it on the internet. Lol thinking about it both of those circumstances mean it could be untrue, you can never believe everything you read on the internet.
God damn there is no stopping these guys. I don't think I have ever seen a company make so many new flavours in one year. It's like we cant go a month without you reviewing one new one from them.
Thanks for the review Jim. I'm already well keen to see what they have in store for us next at Ritter. I agree with you about the wrappers btw. They are v nice looking.
@Lucy you are so right they need to make more white chocolates. The last one they did were for the summer when they made the passionfruit white chocolate. They dont make half enough of them.
Does anyone care to tell me how this bar in particular links in with Christmas at all? It just looks like another stupid flavour to me.
What agreement do you have in place with ritter to get sent samples? Do you have to give them a minimum score for their chocolate or something?
Jesus how many different flavours can one company come up with in the one year? If they release a miniuim of 3 each seasons that is already 12 different chocolates, thats already a pretty crazy amount for any company to make.
Its nice knowing you are going to be getting the Christmas reviews in early. I was slightly annoyed we hadn't seen the pumpkin pocky a bit earlier because I would have likely have bought some for Halloween had I seen them before. Oh well.
How is Ritter viewed in Germany? The impression I get of them as a company here in the UK is that they are like our version of Green & Blacks. By that I mean they are better than the average cadburys/mars chocolate bar but not as good as hotel chocolat or thorntons.
It would be interesting to know if this was an accurate assumption.
Cool review Jim I always like seeing these ritter sport bars even if I dont ever get the chance to try most of them.
Im assuming that we are in for better things with the remaining two ;) I know what you are like saving up the better reviews until the end lol.
Hey Jim,on this site u can find all the informations abot the carbs, calories and so on http://www.ritter-sport.de/#/de_DE/product/article/nuss_nugatcreme/

@Sarah
Over here Ritter Sport is very famous and also known as one of the best brands every. Beside Lindt and Milka i think that Ritter Sport is the one which is offerig a lot of limited edition product each years and we also have something which is called "flavor of the year".It is hard to find products from Cadbury.
:)
Hey Jim,
you've mentioned in a few past reviews that ritter seems to be shifting over to a more quality base chocolate, is this now true across the range, or only for some bars?
@ Sarah
I would say that Milka and Ritter are on the same level. Not the cheapest chocolate around, but definetly not expensive. Cadbury we don't really have in Germany and a lot of Germans I know simply do not like the taste of Cadbury "chocolate". Lindt would definitely be cosidered a superior brand to both Milka and Ritter and left more to special occasions as it is quite a bit more pricy. Though I also know a few Germans who find especially Milka much too sweet, myself included. But again, I think the German market offers much more variety as there are a lot of smaller companies offering good value for money.
Geeeeeze these guys make the most incredble amount of flavours. My only wish that we got to try some of them rather than just having to read about how great they are all the time.
I love hazelnuts so I'd try this immediately if I had the chance. I think the wrapper is cute, too.
@Alex good question, I would associate mainly chestnuts with winter, maybe it's a German dessert tradition?
I think ritter are starting to run out of ideas for flavours. They are starting to all get very similar when you look at them all.
I wish they brought back the ginger biscuit flavour they made last year. That was one I bothered buying online. It was so worth it.
I love the wrapper on this bar, but am not so fussed by the flavour. But then, they do so many flavours it's not really a problem lol.
I do wish we did get more over here, but I think our chocolate market is already overloaded with many of our own brands and their spinoffs and more well know other brands like Lindt that I think Ritter may struggle, nice as the chocolate range is, to get anywhere near the exposure it does elsewhere.
I'm quite surprised that many Germans find our Cadbury chocolate too sweet(when they see it)as Ritter chocolate seems quite sweet lol
@ Alan - it's not only the level of sweetness. If you are used to the likes of Milka, Ritter or Swiss companies, Cadbury tastes very different! I spend 8 years living in Ireland and still prefer German brands. However, for some weird reason I love creme eggs which are the epitome over oversweetened "chocolate" treats. *g*
Hi All,
It's great to see that Ritter have got themselves a warm return to the site (mostly!!) The other two reviews of these Winter Kreations will be following on in the near future.
I'm going to have to start getting more selective on the comments I answer now. I honestly just can't keep up with answering everyone individually - I hope you all understand.
Kim / Daisy - Re: Christmas reviews already?
Indeed. If I'm going to get everything in before December ends then I have no choice. I love Christmas anyway so any excuse to get the ball rolling.
Daisy - The Hotel Chocolat Christmas reviews start tomorrow :D
Francesca / Golden / Mysterio - Re: Ritter and nuts
I'm not going to argue you with you on that. They do put nuts in a load of their chocolates. It must be a very limited range to choose from if you are allergic/dont like them.
Rachel - Re: If you look at the likes of Lindt/ritter/milka etc they all make so many Christmas themed chocoaltes. The people living in Germany get so spoilt.
They do dont they. The Lindt range is the one that astounds me. It is just so so big it would be impossible to review it all.
Graeme / Alan / Eric / Thea - Re: Wrappers
The wrapper is great isn't it. I think the colour of the blue really matches the season. It's better than just using like a generic white snowey one I think. It has great stand out.
Katie /Anne / Golden / Duncan - Re: Ritter being unimaginative/ running out of ideas
I don't think it's a case of Ritter running out of ideas, but more them making a chocolate that they know will be universally popular. They must know that nut based chocolates are really popular in Germany so on their part it does make sense making a least one of them each time they come out with a new set of limited edition. I don't think the 'ideas tank' is empty yet haha.
Lucy / David - Re:'Are they ever going to be making some more white chocolates?'
The new 2011 bar of the year is white chocolate based. Review coming soon.
Anne / Repsh - Re: Sadly no Spekulatius this year. Missed to try it last year
It's a shame not to see it come back isn't it. I thought it was one of the better flavours they came up with all year.
Gary - Re:'Do you know if Ritter have any plans making more of their business here in England?'
I would hope so but they haven't stepped up their distribution from what I have seen. Fingers crossed they do.
Stu - Re:'Its such a good idea making seasonal varieties.'
I agree. It's a good way to make sure that the new flavours they choose match the type of chocolate that people want at the time aswell.
Emma - Re:'Am I imagining things or don't they now own Chocri?'
Nope you aren't imagining things ... http://www.createmychocolate.com/blog/2010/09/16/big-news-today-ritter-investment-and-uk-launch/ .... 7 figure investment!
Alex - Re:'Does anyone care to tell me how this bar in particular links in with Christmas at all?'
It's not a Christmas chocolate as such - more a winter one. I think hazelnuts are popular all year round in Germany, but are especially eaten during Christmas time.
Anon - Re:'What agreement do you have in place with ritter to get sent samples?'
There is no agreement ... they send ... I review ... simple!
Sarah / Anne / Franzi - Re:'How is Ritter viewed in Germany?'
It's interesting hearing your opinions on that Anne & Franzi. They are positioned just how I thought they would be ... not massively premiuim but still a bit nicer than some brands. Anne its interesting you make the point about their being a lot more smaller brands - we are monopolised by Cadbury a lot in this country. Thanks for sharing your views.
Franzi - Re: Nutritional information / Your comment
Thanks for providing this. I will update my review when I get the chance.
Rodzilla - Re:'you've mentioned in a few past reviews that ritter seems to be shifting over to a more quality base chocolate, is this now true across the range, or only for some bars?'
Annoyingly they don't seem to have implemented their 35% cocoa milk chocolate across their range yet. It's rather annoying because it's genuinely much better than the standard stuff - far more flavoursome.
Thanks everyone! Christmas is under way so if there are any products you see and want reviewed then please let me know.
JIM
Thanks once again Jim. A lot of these chocolate/nut Ritter bars do essentially sound the same but I'd be happy if I could get my hands on at least one of them to try. The only flavour I seem to come across is marzipan. I love the packaging, it would certainly grab my attention in the shop because of the blue and it's rather detailed too. Will try my local Aldi to see if they have these or any of the similar types.
On a side note: just bought tickets for my first (hopefully of many) Old Trafford visit for game against Valencia. I can't wait!
I've just been to the Lindt website looking for somethign else. But jeez, the amount of Christmas products is insane! Some of the stuff I did try in the past and loved it. Some stuff I seriously need to try. But one person just can not nibble oneself through everything which may sound only vaguely appealing! O_o Will try to get one or two things in the after Christmas sales.
Ria - Hey Ria. The marzipan is the best distributed ritter in this country I think. I find that slightly annoying to be honest because it's nowhere near the best they have to offer.
I didn't know you were a United fan? Have you recently just adopted them as your team or have you always been a fan? I was at Old Trafford this Saturday for the Spurs game. I try get there as often as I can but it's hard because I live down south.
Anne - Indeed they literally make hundreds of different chocolates for Christmas don't they. Some of them are absolutely brilliant. In 2008 I got sent the most ridiculous amount of Lindt christmas products from Dean-German-Grocery. Take a look under the Christmas 2008 tab if you want to see them. There were some real stunners in there.
Thanks both
JIM
I also happen to think this is the least interesting out of their 2010 winter flavours. I'm very curious about the other two, especially the Orange-Marzipan one.
I think a few years ago my Tesco used to have at least 8 different Ritters but I certainly don't see that these days.
I'm an Aberdeen season ticket holder (one of the few left) but have always followed Man U. Fergie is a legend. If I could afford it (money and time) then I'd go down to watch utd as much as possible. I hope to make it more often now.
This is one of the better Ritter bars I've had, and now I know what I've been missing in the way of fresh hazelnuts (or maybe they just added spectacular flavoring lol? I can't read German). I don't think the nougat is anything to shout about, but the rice pieces add the perfect texture touch. I love the packaging design, too.
I was disappointed, too
It´s nothing special but lame, really monotounous
If i had the choice, i´d decide myself for the haselnusskrokant bar
