January 1st/2nd: Ritter Sport Weiss + Crisp

Kcal ??? Fat ??? Fat(sats) ??? Carbs ???

HAPPY 2011!!! ChocolateMission is back, and boy is it back with a bang!!! I couldn't think of any more appropriate bar to start the year off with than Ritter Sport's 2011 flavour of the year. I was sent this bar back in October 2010 as part of Ritter's bloggers tasting panel to give them some early feedback on what I thought (hence the stock photo of the wrapper above!), suffice to say I've been excited about telling you all about it for a good while now. So what is flavour of the year for 2011? Why of course it is the 'Weiss + Crisp' variant - that's 'White & Crisp' to us Brits! Formed of 'white chocolate and cornflake cereal pieces' this was a rare opportunity to see what Ritter could do with their white chocolate.

As I said above I received this in sampling form so all the 100.0g bars came delivered to me in unmarked Ritter packs. I'm making assumptions about the wrapper, but looking at the design of it I would say that it retains the modern feel of the Ritter brand and manages to communicate the flavour theme in an unfussy manner. My first impressions of the chocolate that were that is was absolutely jam packed full of cornflakes at the base. Compared to the milk chocolate Knusperflakes bar, the chocolate seemed to have more cereal - I guess this is something we can check out when the details emerge on the Ritter website.

What with Ritter being so kind to send multiple bars along, I was able to share them with the rest of my family who are also experienced Ritter Sport consumers. Aroma wise the chocolate smelt nice and offered a dairy based set of scents that had minor biscuity hints. Breaking the bars apart did cause fragments of cereal to disperse themselves but this worried us all very little as soon as we had the chocolate in our mouths. I think we all know that white chocolate isn't my favourite type, but boy was I loving this stuff! It was sinfully creamy in taste and although sweet it never developed an over reliance on it's sugaryness. As the smooth melt of the chocolate progressed an ever developing note of vanilla came to the party and was the lasting impression left in the mouth. The cereal constituents were also well integrated. The corn flavours may not has been as powerful as any nuts, but the saltyness of cereal complimented to the sweet taste of the chocolate wonderfully. This was such a moreish chocolate, I had no problems eating over a half a bar in one sitting - it was that good!

Overall the Ritter Sport bars of the Year haven't always been the best the brand has to offer (See last years HERE), but we should all be very pleased that this Weiss + Crisp is going to be around for at least 12 months. Ever since I reviewed the Ritter Sport White & Whole Hazelnut bar back in 2008 (See HERE), I have been a massive advocate the Ritter should try make a few more variants using their white chocolate recipe. Up until now, Ritter have only obliged with a smattering of white chocolate in their summer bars, but this bar here provides us with further evidence that they really need to start using it an awful lot more. Ritter Sport's white chocolate is quite frankly delicious, and as showcased here pairing it with cornflakes made for a really top combination. I needn't have to say anything more about this particular flavour other than you should try it if you like white chocolate. What a cracking start to the year, fingers crossed everything lives up the standard set here.

Hey Jim im so glad you are back reviewing lol it was way too boring not having anything to read in the mornings when I got up. I hope you have a great New Year.

p.s. Forgot to say this chocolate sounds immense. I think one of the best sounding ritter chocs has always been their cornflakes one. I could do with trying out the milk chocolate one first.

Woop Woop Happy New Year everybody.

Jim you have started off where you left us all in 2010 you big show off. You have me mega jealous reading here. The best ritter bar I have ever had is the white choc with hazelnuts. I bet this tastes amazing. Sooooo jealous :P Fab review.

Why do they send you them in the incorrect packaging? Are they not confirmed flavours or something?

It would be a real shame if they didn't do this one. I used to buy the original cornflakes bar all the time when I was able to buy it.

Happy New Year mate. Good to see you back reviewing so soon, I hope you enjoyed your time away from writing.

Did you have a nice Christmas holiday? Mine was great but I didn't get much chocolate at Christmas :( I just got the standard cheapo gift packs of nestle bars. I was disappointed lol.

This chocolate reminds me of the time I tried making white chocolate rice crispy cakes. For such a simple recipe it was a complete disaster. I don't know why but the white chocolate I used didn't set properly and they just turned out and really mushy and soft. This chocolate does sound very nice though :) Im sure ritter wouldn't have that problem lol.

YAYYYYYYYYYYY You are back!!!! You could have warned us all about your prolonged hiatus young man. I was left wondering what to do with myself every morning when I didn't get my e-mail with my chocolate review fix each day. Please dont go leaving us again :P

I will forgive you for showing me this though. OMG this sounds yummy. I might even go to the hassle of buying it off the net when it is out in germany.

Happy new year and Christmas to you Jim I trust you had a good time?

The normal cornflakes ritter chocolate is the one I always buy whenever I go abroad so next time I will be on the look out for this white chocolate one. Im sure I will see it at one point if it is around for the whole year. Thanks for the review.

Mmmm sounds delicious. Thanks for the review Jim. Happy new year and all that.

I take it the chances of this ever turning up in England are zilch to nil yeah?

Its such a shame we dont get the opportunity to try all these new flavours you constantly show us.

Jim using your contacts do you think you could ask them if they ever plan on sending us more flavours? If we show interest they might do. You never know?

Steven_F said...

Oh and I forgot to say Happy New Year :) Sorry for the double post mate.

Hey Jim cool to see the reviews are back, trust you to start off a new year with a Ritter thing lol.

Im sorta glad you have been away because you haven't been able to poke fun about the Liverpool results lol. We have been so terrible, we need that idiot out.

Today I am predicting United 3 WBA 0 and Liverpool 2 Bolton 1. We really need to start winning some games lol.

Its a new year but the reviews are still just as good :-)

The last time I had the milk chocolate one I said to my friend how great it would be with white chocolate. Lol it looks like I got my wish. Tell ritter we want this one for the uk jim.

Is this the flavour you are giving away in your twitter competition? Can we enter as many times as we want?
@Scouseyxx

Oh no you shouldn't have shown me this Jim. I can sense an over expensive order off the internet coming in somewhere to source this one :(

How do you find out about all these new Ritter chocolates btw? I never see or hear anything about them looking at some of the sites you do for your news posts.

Linda said...

I think this is one the kids would love. Nut free also. Thanks for showing it to me Jim.

Is there any possible way your family could adopt me please so I can join your chocolate tasting clan?

Great review mate but I think the translation of the name for us was unecessarcy. Lol we might be dumb but I think we could have guessed what it was.

HAPPPPPPPPPY NEW YEAR JIM

Keep up the amazing reviews you do. I love the ritter ones.

Robert said...

This is just the same as their other cornflakes chocolate. They need to stop making new flavours and come up with something genuinely new.

Happy new year jim. SO glad to see Choccie mission back up and running :) Now about this Ritter white cornflakes ;) Have any spares?

Tracey said...

mmmmm I think some chocolate might cure my hangover. I wish it was this ritter white choc I was going to be having :( It doesn't sound the most exciting flavour they have come up with but I could see it being a favourite of mine.

Happy New year Jim! Its great to have the CM back :) This looks rather nice, I'm not a big white choc fan either but I'd certainly give this a go. I'd much rather have Ritter on the shelves than Hershey lol.

We all seemed to buy each other alot of chocolate this year in my family, not sure how it happened but it will prob last ages. I was glad to hear of the return of the Aero Orange - about time :D !

Thea said...

I love the Ritter white chocolate, but my last few awful experiences with (other) cornflakes have unfortunately put me off them for a while.
@Justin you'd be surprised lol, especially after a late night...Happy new year all :D

God I wish this was one of the flavours they would release in this country. It sounds like it should be really boring but I can kinda see how the salt in cornflakes could do great things with white chocolate. This will defo be one to try for the year.

You are a lucky boy getting to try all these jimbo.

Where is the competition? I don't see one :S Confused.

I think one key to making a white chocolate enjoyable is to add something - in this case, the little crispy bits. Hope to see this one on store shelves soon.

Mary said...

happy new year to you Jim. Please let ritter sport know we want some of these flavours you keep putting in front of us. Its unfair they keep doing so if we cant buy them :p

Phil said...

Wow I wasn't expecting a new post today. Happy new year to you Jim!

This sounds like one tasty bar. I love white chocolate with crunchy fillings.
Will you be reviewing any diet products this month? since everyone goes on diets in January haha.

Ashley said...

Lol any excuse for a new flavour from Ritter, I sure wouldn't mind trying it though.

Vikki said...

I cant see this topping the hazelnut and white that they make but it looks like one I might bother buying from germany if I can work up the encouragement. Lol I promised myself I would eat less chocolate this year for my new years resolution. I think I will eat less, but more high quality lol.

Retweeted Jim. Now enter me in your competition :) :) Fingers crossed I win.

Hey, hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year! It's nice to see you back though. This Ritter bar sounds really nice. I've tried a number of their miniatures but it's a shame that it's so difficult finding the full size bars over here as there are plenty, like this one, I'd like to try.

Just read the site update, while it won't be the same getting new reviews every day, I understand why you've done it, especially since your reviews keep growing in popularity on top of being busy in your "real World". I know the review quality won't change. If anyone has issues then they're ungrateful & unappreciative of the work you've put into it so far.

Hi All,

Thanks again for all the new years wishes etc. I hope you have all seen the site announcement and taken note of the changes being made to the site. I hope you all understand the reasons for me doing this. On to your comments & questions ....

Matt - These are sample bars so they don't have the final finished products to send along. The flavours you see on the site will always be the ones coming out. To be more accurate they are presale samples.

Golden / Kim - My Christmas was fantastic thank you. I spend it with my family which was very relaxing indeed.

Daisy - Interesting. You never see white chocolate rice crispie cakes. Im sure you would nail them next time :D

Lucy - Haha evermany/women and their dog starts off with that new years resolution.

Lauren - I did say in my Seasons Greetings post that I wouldn't be back until the new year. You must have missed that bit.

Steven - I will send them an e-mail asking them about their plans with Ritter in the UK. I will see if they are interested in doing an interview with questions from yourselves.

Nigel - Congrats with the predictions chap. You got the Liverpool one dead on! I might have to start using your predictions for my football betting.

Scousey - No I am giving away the winter flavours in the Twitter comp.

Fiona - I generally get an e-mail from Ritter asking me if I want to try them and then they send them on. Simple really.

Katie - Rather than my family adopt, you could always just enter the Ritter competitions I run :D There is probably a better likelyhood there :D

Robert - It's not totally the same chap. There are only so many flavourd thry can come up with each year.

Charlotte - No leftovers of this one I'm afraid. Sorry.

Alan - Glad to hear you had a good Christmas chap. Indeed it is great to hear about the Aero Orange. I will get a review up as soon as I find the thing.

Thea - Its a shame you would be put off trying this because of other bars but it is understandable given the circimstances. Maybe one day you might brave trying it in one of the small ritter bar sizes they do!?

Darren - It is a competition I am running on Twitter chap. Check out my feed for details.

Victoria - I think it should be on the shelves as early as February.

Phil - Happy New Year back at you chap. Indeed I will be reviewing some diet products ... the requests have been coming in over the last few days for the likes of Eat Natural bars etc. If you have any suggestions let me know.

Vikki - That sounds like my new review philosophy :D Less, but better quality. I think that is a sensible way to approach your chocolate consumption. Hopefully I can help you pick out the good stuff.

Ria - Indeed both NY/Christmas were brilliant thank you. I trust yours were also.
As I said to the other I will ask ritter about their plans regarding the UK. It would be interested to hear their thoughts wouldn't it.
Thank you for the nice words about the posting etc. It was becoming increasingly hard with the demands of my day to devote my time properly to the site. I was just about managing it, but it was a tad stressful which isn't the point ... it's just supposed to be a bit of fun at the end of the day. Hopefully these changes will make things a load easier :D

Great hearing from you all as always. What with it being Monday tomorrow there is a whole new review coming your way :D

JIM

PS Jim, I know I requested specific Browne's chocs (6 Dec) but please don't take those as set in stone, if they send you others they would be equally welcome, I just thought those were among their best.
