There are so many Easter products floating about this year, I thought it best I compile everything by brand in order to showcase the best and worse of what is on offer. Today Cadbury take centre stage with my reviews of their latest cake bars and some links back to some of my previous reviews that may have slipped you by if you have only started reading the site in the past year or so.
Most (if not all) of these products can be purchased in your local supermarkets, though you may also want to check out CadburyGifts online where they are doing special hampers and online deals - See HERE.
Starting with the older products that may have passed you by, you will see above the Cadbury Mini Eggs Easter egg offering this year. That was a present given to me by one of my work colleagues and has been on sale in the supermarkets since Boxing Day 2010 :D This egg package features a 120.0g of Cadbury Mini Eggs, a large sized hollow milk chocolate egg and lastly (and most awesomely) a Cadbury Mini Eggs mug, which right now is sitting on my desk filled to the brim with coffee.
In addition to all their large egg package offerings this year, Cadbury also have all usual classic offerings ...

Cadbury Caramel Bunnies - See HERE
Enough with the past! Here are the new cakes Cadbury have on offer this Easter ....

Cadbury Cake Bars Orange CremeKcal 145 Fat 8.0g Fat(sats) 5.0g Carbs 16.6g
'Chocolate flavoured sponge with an orange flavour creme covered with Cadbury milk chocolate.'
Seemingly Burtons Foods have taken a leaf out of the the Ritter Sport approach to innovation, as a season in the calendar can't seem to pass without them introducing a few new flavours to their Cadbury Cake Bar range. This spring time the flavour variety being offered are these Cadbury Cake Bars Orange Creme, which I found on one of those infamous £1.00 introductory offers in Tesco. The last time Cadbury Cake Bars tried an orange flavour, they went a more direct route in competing with McVitie's Jaffa Cakes and tried pulling off their own Jaffa variety - See HERE. This time around the orange filling tasted more like an orange flavoured fondant, which unfortunately wasn't entirely preferable. Despite it's smooth silky mouth feel the creme was just too sugary when combined with the sweet cake and Cadbury chocolate, the orange influence felt also rather laboured and didn't have the desired fruity zingyness I wanted. I wouldn't be overly concerned if you miss out on trying these this Easter.

Cadbury Lemon Mini Rolls
Kcal 125 Fat 5.7g Fat(sats) 2.9g Carbs 16.7g
'Golden sponge with lemon flavoured curd and a lemon flavour filling, covered with milk chocolate'
Fruit flavours must be the name of the game this season, as Burton's have also released a new fruit flavoured variety to the Cadbury Mini Roll range. These Cadbury Mini Rolls Lemon are the latest addition to Cadbury's extensive portfolio of Mini Rolls, and I found them on the same £1.00 Tesco deal as stated above. To cut to the chase, these Cadbury Mini Rolls Lemon were actually pretty good, and I enjoyed them immensly more than some of the other varities that have gone before. As you will have determined from the description and pictures, the lemon influence was established by the lemon jam which was intertwinned with the vanilla cream. The lemon flavours created an edgy citrus taste, whilst the coolness of jam mouth feel played off nicely against both the sponge and the cream. Again the overall taste was rather sweet, however it wasn't half as overbearing as some other varities. I wouldn't rate these as Blackcurrant and Vanilla beaters, but for £1.00 you could do worse this Easter.

Cadbury Mini Egg Chocolate Nest CakesKcal 150 Fat 8.5g Fat(sats) 5.1g Carbs 15.9g (per cake)
'Chocolate sponge with buttercream, covered in Cadbury milk chocolate with Cadbury Mini Eggs'
Out of all the Cadbury cakes I bought this Easter these were by far the most expensive, and cost me £2.25 for the pack of five from Tesco. Compared to the Cake Bar and Mini Roll alternatives showcased above, these did look the fancier cakes - the chocolate curls and decorative Mini Eggs placed on top of the cake just made them look that little bit extra special. Whilst I was impressed by the cakes aesthetically and texturally, I was far less receptive of the taste with my main source of disappointment being driven by the buttercream element. What with the Cadbury chocolate and sponge constituents generating an already quite sweet taste, the buttercream only went to further this with it's heavy sugar emphasis. In essence it failed to deliver either a buttery or creamy development to the taste, and rather just made these cakes overbearingly sweet for my taste.

Surprisingly there aren't that many cadburys easter themed chocolates this year compared to last. I remember a few years ago when they had eggs for almost every type of chocolate bar they made. I would of thought they would have made a spots v stripes one for instance. They could have made quite a funky looking egg there. A missed opportunity if you ask me.
Good post Jim its a nice summary of what they have out there. Out of everything what would you say was the best thing they make? I used to be a true hardcore creme egg fan but then I got sick of them. It's the caramel eggs now any day of the week. They are like the only thing that cadbury haven't tampered with for years.
Cheers
G-man
Oh no this isn't going to do me any favours you meanie :-P I have been trying to cut down the amount I spend on easter this year but now you have showed it all off I suddenly feel the need to get a mini eggs pack. I have even done my research already and I see they are cheapest in Tesco. Well sorta, they are buy one get one free, lol I will have to decide what to do with the other one. Thank you for the reviews ... sort of :-P

Everywhere I turn I see that damn cadbury creme egg advert (the 'goo' one) Its getting so annoying.
It would seem my kids could eat mini eggs all day long. I let them at one of the hug bags they other day and it took them a matter of minutes before they had gone through the lot. I will be limiting how much of them they eat now though. I had no idea they had so many artifical flavourings in etc.
I wish you had done a round up post on something like Thorntons and not Cadburys. I think we all know what Cadburys churn out each year - it always seems to be the same.
Hopefully this is just a tease for next week ;)
Mini Eggs FTW. How the hell can you give the creme egg 8.8 and then diss Mini Eggs so much. Mini Eggs are soooo much better.
I was so close to buying a pack of those lemon mini rolls the other day but I changed my mind and went for some special edition Mr Kipling french fancies. If I get to the shops again this weekend I might try and buy some if they are still on offer.
Cadbury bunnies are good but the best bunny chocolates are the MaltEasters. They have been the best new thing to come out for Easter for ages. Everything else 'new' have been so so boring. Aero Lambs being the perfect example.
Boy I will be steering clear of the orange and nest eggs looking at their ratings. You should keep away from these Cadbury cakes Jimbo. You never rate them very highly.
No matter how many come on here today and say they love mini eggs I wont for one minute believe they like them as much as I do. Lol I swear im obsessed with them. This time of year I hoard bags of them away so I can feed my fetish for the rest of the year. I probs should be admitting this but I have ten bags hidden away already. All my family will be giving mini eggs for Easter aswell. Lol how embarrassing.
Dx
The only problem I have with Cadbury is that they have made all of their easter chocolates mean nothing now. You can pretty much buy all of them all year round now. They used to all feel special because you could only buy them at certain times. Like you said at the start Jim, you could of bought one of those big mini egg easter eggs on boxing day. Its all become a bit ridiculous if you ask me.
Its not like you can complain about these if they are less than 20p a cake. I think thats good value however average they are.
Jim do you remember this one?
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-35rv5zucPyI/TV-4GuSGt-I/AAAAAAAAAAY/t18DQ68XqTE/s1600/Double+Cream+Egg.jpg
That Double Cream egg was my all time fave :( It hasn't been around for two years now. Its such a bummer.
The Twix bar is my all time favourite chocolate bar yet its the only one that mars haven't bothered making an egg for this year. I have been getting a Twix easter egg every year for as long as I remember but this year it isn't going to happen. Screw you Mars! SCREW YOU.
Jim if you haven't seen them then you should be aware that there are two new flavours of cadburys cake bars out now. They are vanilla and jaffa cake flavoured and I saw them on one of those one quid dealios. Review them if you can m8.
Thats a real shame they didn't make those Mini Egg cakes at the bottom a bit better. If I hadn't bothered looking at the rating I would have just assumed they were really nice. The photos look lovely and I generally trust anything that comes with Mini Eggs :D Ho hum.
I know you write these sort of posts with the best of intentions but they dont help anyone you know lol. They just serve as a reminder of everything that is out there to buy and eat. I hadn't even though about getting a mini eggs egg but now I well want one of those mugs.
Cool post Jim I have seen most of these cakes in the shops but haven't tried any of them yet. After seeing your ratings I'm not even sure I will bother with any of them now as none of them seem to have done that well. Whenever I see 6s or 7s on here now I just immediatedly assume they aren't anything special.
I had a mini egg cake bar yesterday and it was lovely. They must use different vanilla cream in the one I had because it doesn't sound anything like you say it was in that nest egg cakes that you had. I thought it was the best bit lol.
The only Cadbury product you seemed to have missed out on is the curly wurly egg. It was new this year.

oh and the eggheads. You should have reviewed them http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=263070686
Mini Eggs FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That cup is the definition of cool. I so need one of them.
This post just highlights how totally unoriginal cadburys have been this year. They couldn't of had a more boring line up if they tried. Its all about trying the smaller brands for the better chocolates this year. Thats what I think anyways.
Lovely post hun. Im a little embarassed by how many of the chocolates in this post that I have eaten recently, its way too many i must be piling on the pounds lol.
I think my creme egg count for the year must be over 20 at the least. I always justify eating them by telling myself that they aren't around for long and I should eat them whilst I can. I feel really bad now after reading all the comments about how they have mad everything available all year round eeeek.
Eugh im so sick of creme eggs now. I was weeks ago.
Its great that you put all the links back to your old reviews, most useful thanks!
Do you think you will ever go back and change what you wrote? You reviewed them nearly three years ago. You must think differently about some of them now I assume.
I like the fact you aren't one of those snobbish chocolate reviewes who wont even entertain the thought of mainstream chocolates aren't credible. Some of the chocolate blogs I have followed in the last few years always end up turning on the mass produced companies talking like they are these evil people that purposely produce bad chocolate. Keep up the good work young sir.
The best eggs I've seen across all the blogs are the artisan ones you wrote about the other day. Its just the sound of white chocolate cream ganache that sounds so good. I wish I could go buy some as easy as pie like I can do all these cadburys things.
I know we aren't officially celebrating easter for another week but who does everyone think has won in terms of all the chocolate makers?
Out of everything I have tried this year I think the lindt lindor eggs are probs the nicest I have tried. I have eaten the odd creme egg and smarties figurines but to be honest with you I just found them all pretty boring.
If I had to choose I would plump for Lindt. I'm hoping to get one of the big milk choc bunnies.
I wish they would make a cadbury caramel egg the size of the hollow ones they make :) Lol imagine all that lush caramel. Talk about heaven.
You should have done a competition to win your mini eggs cup :) You must have loads of them.
Is there any reason why you didn't review the mini eggs cake bars since you did all the others? I haven't tried any of of the others but I have had them before and thought they were nice.
Thanks for the links back to the older reviews m8. I see you updated the photos on most of them since I last saw them. That photo of the creme egg is epic lol Your rating is a tad high if you ask me though. As time has gone on I seem to think less and less of the creme egg.
Lol I was hoping to see some reviews of all of these cause I read an article on that talking retail site you always show in the news page showing them all off just yesterday.
I didn't think you would get these cakes done so fast lol. http://www.talkingretail.com/products/product-news/egg-ceedingly-good-easter-cakes-from-premier-foods
I never realised you had the rating for Cadbury Mini Eggs down so low. 6.8 is ridiculous man, they are one of the most famous and popular chocolates you can buy at Easter and have been since I can remember. Millions and millions of people cant be wrong.
Yummy Im going to go grab myself some mini eggs today. I always forget all about them until Easter comes around.
I wish they made them all year round, they are one of the few things that Cadbury make that I still like.
Cadburys are always a safe bet for this time of year. You know between all the mini eggs and the creme egg things they make you are going to be able to find something half decent despite them trying to cut corners elsewhere by making other packages smaller etc. As long as they don't change Mini Eggs they can do what they want with the rest.
You haven't rated any of the three high, but I think they all look wonderful.
@Shaun I think the best thing I have had this Easter was the milk chocolate hen thing they made for smarties this year. The chocolate isn't amazing or anything but I think its just a cool idea having the egg inside the hen. Well I thought it was clever anyways
Is it me or does the word buttercream sound like the most drool enticing thing in the world lol. I always think cakes that say they have buttercream in are going to taste ten times better than they normally do. Most the time they just end up being crappy sugary fillings like the ones you get in french fancies and not like fresh cream like you would expect.
Good review Jim. I was considering buying the orange cake bars yesterday but I'm glad I didn't now. The mini egg cakes sound far too expensive to me, for the price you want something a bit more special!
I haven't bought anything Easter themed yet so I better get cracking next week. I used to buy Milkybar eggs but now I can't stand the stuff.
@Nick - I like the look of that smarties hen too lol.
Mmmm yum yum. I hope I get one of those mini eggs easter eggs next weekend it looks like it has everything I want. Im so glad they brought the cups back :) Retro coolness x 10.
Anas right these all look far too nice for the score you gave them. Lol perhaps you need to start making things look more rubbish in your pictures Jim.
Hi All,
Thanks for all the nice comments today regarding the post. I thought it would be a nice way to go about things - its good to see a number of you have also taken a look at some of my older posts aswell :D ... my writing style was even worse at that point in time ... scary to believe indeed :D
NICK - Personally I think Spots v Stripes has been flogged to death enough already. It could have been a way to get rid of their left over volumes though I guess.
GRAEME - Nowadays I favour the Caramel Eggs, but the Creme Eggs are still nice to have from time-to-time.
KIM - Don't worry Thorntons will get their fair crack at having some Easter exposure on the site. I suggest you check here tomorrow :D
DAISY - I wouldn't bother hoarding them this year. I wouldn't be surprised if they just start selling them all year round.
KEV - Indeed I do remember it chap. It was a shame that Nestle removed that double cream product line, I would have liked to have given it a ChocolateMission going over.
PAUL - The Twix bar is included in one of the Mars bumper Easter packs. It is a shame it didn't get its own egg though I agree.
DUNCAN - I reviewed them last year chap. Check the archives.
JOHAN - I can't cover everything :D :D Believe it or not I'm not a chocolate eating machine. Perhaps someone else can share their views on what they made of them? Anyone tried either of these two yet?
EMILY - Haha that did make me laugh to myself. 20 Creme Eggs in one year? Boy I'm not sure I have eaten that many in my lifetime. Surely you wont of had that many.
BENNI - My views on the products are still broadly the same. I do sometimes go back and update reviews if the manufactures change the recipes etc.
HENRY - There is more coming from Artisan next week chap. The quality is equally as high!
SHAUN - I would say its hard to pick 'one winner'. Each manufacture has their strong and weak products. Hopefully I'm giving you a steer on them all and pointing you in the right direction.
FIONA - Im not sure that would be the best idea you know :D I could see the caramel getting a little sickly don't you think. It would be pretty impressive to see mind you :D
RYAN - They weren't in stock at the time sorry. I didn't leave them out on purpose at all. I would have loved to have reviewed them.
CRAIG - I added that article to the news page late last night chap :D thanks for sharing it with me though.
KATIE - Mini Eggs have a real cult following it seems. There seems to be a group of people that just love them.
NATHAN - Indeed, in this case buttercream does sound better than it actually was.
PHIL - The price difference between the nest eggs and the rest is pretty stark huh!? I still don't quite get why the pricing is so varied. That hen product will be cropping up next week :D It does look rather cool doesn't it :D
STU - I will bare that in mind when I'm taking the photos in the future :D
Thanks for the feedback on the reviews everyone. One week to go until Easter, enjoy your weekends!
JIM
Jim most of these were available to buy even before boxing day mate. I saw them on the shelves in my local supermarket next to all the christmas stuff in early December. Lol imagine if someone got the wrapping up wrong and ended up giving someone an easter egg for christmas. =) they would have looked so silly.
I dont wish to be rude about your reviews but how do orange creme and lemon qualify as being Easter themed? I think these are just two random flavours that Cadbury picked. I would of liked them to have put a bit more thought in to the products rather that just coming out with just anything for the sake of it.
Easter is only next weekend! How mental is that. Time flys past so quickly. It feels like only yesterday I was reading christmas reviews on here.
Cool I'm glad to see that you have recommended that mini eggs Easter egg. Its the one I bought for my sister. I do have my eye on the cup though ;) she might find that it goes missing whilst shes preoccupied with the choc lol.
