Kcal 100 Fat 5.8g Carbs 11.3g (per 18.0g Kit Kat)The hot summer time in Japan is coming about again soon so if you are thinking of putting in a J-list order soon I would get on it rather sharpish. In an attempt to remind you all of the crazy confections they have going on over there, my pal Peter @J-List has sent along another batch of goodies for me to review on the site. I almost take it as a given these days, that when I receive any package from these guys, there will no doubt be the latest flavour Kit Kat somewhere amongst it - I wasn't wrong! The flavour (or flavours I should say!)on offer this time was this double pack of Lemonade & Cola. This was a limited edition released a few months ago, and was the first dual flavoured Japanese Kit Kat package I had come across.
The total pack was divided into two separate two-finger bars that each weighed 18.0g each (your standard two-finger supermarket Kit Kat size!!). Both variants came presented in a rather groovy looking box that did a highly efficient job of indicating the Lemonade & Cola flavour with it's bright branding and use of on-pack pictures. Inside the bars were easily identifiable by the colour of their foil wrappers - Lemon of course the yellow one, and the cola unsurprisingly the red. Opening both up it soon became apparent that these were not going to be the Kit Kats notable for their 'real' or true tasting credentials - they smelt particularly sweet with strong suggestions of both lemon and cola.

Taking my least favoured flavour first I initially started with the Lemonade flavour, though it was long before I was experimenting trying little bits of each at the same time :D The reason I have chosen not to rate these flavours individually is because they would have been given the same scores each, as they delivered exactly the same sort of flavour experience. Both bars had a grounding of milky sweetness from the outer white chocolate, which I thought worked well for each variant. In both bars, the wafer in the middle of each bar acted as a nice savoury counter-balance to the very overt kiddie sweet like flavourings of both the cola and lemonade. Indeed, both the lemonade and cola influences were very reminiscent of other sweets - the cola bottles from Haribo Starmix and Bassetts Lemon Sherbets should give you some sort of idea what the flavour delivery was like. As you can imagine the delivery of the flavours in this manner was highly sugar based, so I can see how a four finger version of one of these flavours might have proven to be very monotonous and sickly. The idea of having two different flavoured smaller bars proved to be a good one - there was just about enough differentiation between the two to keep my tastebuds from being affected from the cola/sugar and lemonade/sugar overload, and I ultimately enjoyed the whole experience.Overall I think this is going to be one of those flavours of Kit Kat that really splits opinion. Being someone that loved sweets like Haribo when I was younger I found these to be a nice little nostalgia kick and I enjoyed the cola bottle and lemon sherbet like experiences dished out by both the different bars. I wouldn't say these were flavours you would like to eat everyday, far from it, but as a one-off occurrence I was more than happy with what these bars delivered. Some will think that both the cola and lemonade influences are very artificial tasting, and I wouldn't dare argue with them as they are certainly right in that respect. If expectations are suitably set at enjoying the kids sweets like experience though, I see little reason why these wouldn't be Kit Kats you would really enjoy. Like so many of the Japanese products these were a real pleasure to try if only for the experience rather than any grandioso taste pleasure.

I like both coke and lemonade but flavouring my choc with them just doesn't sound right.
It might be interesting to try someday.
If these imported things weren't so damn expensive I would be loads more willing to give some of them a try. I just think its a bit stupid paying in excess of a pound for a kit kat. They aren't worth that at all.
Its funny how you see these flavours for sweets all the time but never chocolate. Its good to hear they work.
I've seen this flavour doing the rounds on all sorts of websites not just jlist. It was even in the cybercandy birmingham store when I was there last though I didn't buy it because I already had a few other kit kats that I wanted to buy more.
I wish they had done these seperately. I fancy the lemonade but not the cola. People think I'm mad for not liking coke. I used to get teased so much at school about it, I was more of a tizer drinker. Ahhhhh those were the days eh.
Cola flavoured choc? Well that isn't one I have heard of before.
I'm sure the lemonade one wont seem as odd because I've tried similar chocs previously.
I know you say its good but I doubt very much it's going to surpass the amaze that the lemon meringue thorntons dessert truffles.
Rxxx
I haven't had cola flavoured sweet for years I should really get involved and relive the memories of days gone. Thinking about it now though I don't think the sweets I had were ever chocolate with cola. It was always gummy sweets and stuff like that. Cola chocolate could be cool.
Before you big this one up too much Jim you might want to have checked Jlist! They haven't got these in stock anymore which is uber disappointing. You had my finger set on the buy button aswell, I was all poised to make my credit card start crying again lol.
The cola one is going to win out over the lemonade one every day of the week. Its the far more interesting sounding one out of the two, lemon chocolates have been done loads of times before.
You should have scored them serperately Jim. I can't see how they are both worth the same judging by your taste descriptions. You seem to favour the cola a lot more.
I've seen a few bits and pieces on jlist that I would like to see reviewed if you get the chance.
One of the ones thats been in the top 5 for ages is that chocolate flavoured fizzy drink. I've not seen one of those before, are you able to ask them for a sample Jim?
Run a KK competition. I want to eat some of these soooooo bad.
Nice to see the kit kat reviews back on the map. Its been a while since you last did us a review of one of them. I think I mentioned this last time but have they stopped making as many of them recently or are jlist just not stocking them anymore?
I used to see them add new flavours all the time but they I swear they haven't put anything new for ages now. Lol inevitably the day I post that they will ten new'uns :P
Lemonade and cola are cool flavours, they are the first two I fancy trying for a long time. Some of the ones you have featured recently like the green tea and dark chocolate haven't taken my fancy whatsoever but these sound pretty unique. Thanks for the review matey.
Eugh fizzy drinks like these are disgusting. They shouldn't be flavours that make it anywhere near chocolate. I would rather have a tea flavoured kit kat than one of these. They just aren't for me thank you.
These aren't that new at all they have been around for at least a year or so.
I know because they were part of an order I placed last year in July. I remember the lemondae being ok but I didn't like the coke one. It didn't taste like coke that much if you ask me. It was just very sugary from what I remember.
Have a gd bank holiday wk end J!
Em
One more thing lol ....... I love the way they stick all their kit kats in boxes. Could you imagine the uproar if they did that in the UK. Its a bit uncessary environmentally but it just makes them look so much more special. I think a good deal of the population would start having kittens if nestle did that over here lol.
Hey J,
One day until the big one then? How are you calling it? I've seen you mention before that you go to see the matches sometimes. Have you been able to get yourself a ticket?
I think it is to tough to call myself. If I were you I would be a little more hopeful that you could beat them than I would of been a few months ago but I still think they have the edge if I was picking a favourite. Your boys are in good form so if they play their best and make sure messi doesn't run rings round people then I think you will at least run them close.
As much as I love KKs i don't think I would ever bother myself with these cola or lemonade ones. I never drank them as drinks so eating them for novelty reasons in the shape of kks isn't all the appealing to me. Its a cool review though.
Cheers - I cant wait to hear your thoughts on the footie lol.
N
If these are a permanent one that will stick around for a bit them I might try it sometime in the future. I unfortunately don't have the money to spending on expensive imports for the min, not until I get paid next anyways.
Cola and wafer? That doesn't sound like a match made in heaven to me. Yuck
Grumble grumble grumble I don't even want to bother writing again about how boring nestle are in this country vs others. Its not even worth the time and effort of writing it out for the hundreth time, nothing ever changes.
GO GO GO MAN U!!!!!!
Cool that cola flavoured one sounds wicked to me. I used to love cola flavoured sweets when I was younger, anyone here remember the hard boiled sweets called Frosties? Lol I've probs knackered my teeth for life because of the amount of them I ate when I was growing up.
Awesome photos mate. Is the coca cola one supposed to look faded and light coloured or is that just an affect of the lighting?
Have you seen the latest Pocky flavour they have reviewed on JSR mate? You know I was saying they didn't make mint flavoured chocolates? Well they just did lol!! The person who reviewed it said they weren't very good though. I'm sure the kit kat flavour will follow shortly don't you think? That seems to be the way with these things over there. Pocky make a new flavour and then the rest copy soon after from what I see.
For a minute there I was expecting a tirade about how these contained popping candy but I see they saved you the effort by leaving it out for you lol;
This has been up on the cybercandy website for a long time.
Either they bought loads in or they just haven't sold any of them, its going to be one of the two. I think it must be a case of them buying a lot of them because I would have thought those flavours would be well popular for the UK. Its not as if they are green tea or anything that sounds threatening at all. They are both accepted as flavours aren't they.
Haribo cola bottles are the nicest sweets EVER!!!!!!!! I cant quite imagine what cola flavoured chocolate would be like though. It doesn't sound correct when I think about it :S
Before people start complaining that we dont get flavours like this may I remind you that we had a lemon kit kat flavour before and they had to stop making it because it wasn't popular enough.
Look here on snackspot http://snackspot.org.uk/thread.php?story=0405131029sbc it was around during 2004.
Lol I almost choked when I saw the price someone was selling one of these on ebay for. £3!!!! and then £1.99 for shipping. They are having a giraffe, I can live without it thanks.
The scored for these are a lot higher than I expected. I thought these were just going to be ones you say were fake tasting and nasty. There I go presuming wrongly again lol.
Cheers for the review Jim I was hoping to see a review of this one day. I see they have sold out on Jlist which is unfortunate. If you can suggest somewhere else we could get one it would be much appreciated.
p.s. good luck to man utd tomorrow. I hope they win and beat those cheeky cheats.
I know you aren't going to like this Jim but I finally got around to buying a kit kat caramel and I thought it was terrific.
I can't see what there isn't to like about it? It's a bit sweet after a while I get you there but I think that about all Kit Kats to be honest with you.
I know you always say the test is whether you buy it again and I think I would do myself. It wont ever be a favourite but I can't see the fuss you got people in saying it was really bad.
What a fab idea this one is. Its far less scary than some of the more recent green tea and sweet potatoe Kit Kats you reviewed.
Out of all the strange Japanese KitKats, I find these to be the most appealing.
I don't find Cola flavoured wafers to be really that unusual. I remember trying some last summer. Not KitKats though, but some obscure brand. I also bought the lemon and the chocolate versions on the same occasion.
These sound very interesting! The only lemonade chocolate i ever tasted was a Limited Edition Cadburys Crunchie a few years ago (they also did Mint, Champagne, Tango)and I remember liking it very much. I dont think it was lemon sherberty in flavour but it did taste just like Lemonade.
I like cola bottles, not very keen on Haribo sweets but other makes I like, like the good old Pick n Mix sweets from newsagents. Those were the days when you geta 10p mix up! Those 'Candy king' brand ones you see now in some shops just arent the same, like a cheap attempt at the old Woolies pick n mix.
@Kieran I like Frosties, theyre still around. I rarely buy them though coz my teeth would never stand it lol I liked Kola Kubes aswell (the same thing really but cubed) and Pinapple Kubes aswell.
Cola and lemonade gummy sweets were always in my pick-a-mix bag.
Me and my bro used to batter each other if we chaught the other nicking each others cola bottles, the fights used to get out of hand sometimes we loved them that much lol.
Im starting to think they are willing just to make any sort of flavour for Kit kats over there. I hope that isn't true and they geuninely try to make ones that they think are going to taste nice. I don't know quite what it is but sometimes the flavours come across as if they are just there for shock value and cheap sales. You say the cola flavoured one is nice but do you think there is a chance they just got lucky with it?
Cola and Lemonade flavour!? These sound a bit westernised to me? I would much rather spend my pennys on the more obscure Japanese ones that they have made.
I was checking out that napa japan site and they had some flavours that jlist aren't carrying. One of them was this special bean paste dumpling flavour that sounded mega nuts. You should approach them for some samples if jlist are cutting your supply.
Lmao at the people who bought one of these from cybercandy. Did you not figure out that it was cheaper to buy it straight from Japan and not off them?? :) their prices are the absolute pits they should be locked up for daylight robbery.
I used to buy sweets and stuff from them all the time but I have realised now what complete rip off merchants they are. I hope you all wake up and smell the bacon because they are conning you big time.
These actually sound ok. I wouldn't go out of my way to try them but they sure sound like a nice novelty. I do miss the days when we could get unique flavoured products over here.
@Kieran - I remember Frosties!
I think I found it - Lachita Cola Wafers
If they start doing flavours based on drinks they aren't going to be running out of flavours anytime soon are they lol. That just opens up another hundred thousand varieties we should be preparing ourselves for. Lol wouldn't it be cool if they started doing alcohol themed ones. Lol Kit Kat Gin & Tonic, Kit Kat vodka ..... Kit Kat Lager flavour :O :O I wouldn't put it past them lol.
I could see this being well popular with younger people if they released it for a limited time over here. They are both exactly the sort of flavours that I think would be seen as fun to try and different, but not to crazy or disgusting sounding.
I understand why we don't get most of the flavours they bring out in Japan because a lot of them can be silly sounding and not suited to expectations of people over here. These I do think could work though, they have potential.
Hi All,
Apologies for my abrupt reply tonight but I need to get out of the office as there are places to be :D
You may have guessed this one was one that I had to push back in the review line up. Indeed J-List do appear to be sold out now, I suggest you still take a wander over there if you fancy getting some of the Kit Kats before they stop selling chocolate for the summer.
All of you have great weekends ... I'll do my best to answer your questions quickly below.
Neil - I did state my reasons for not scoring them seperately quite clearly chap. Hopefully my descriptions are a better way of gauging how good they are anyway.
Ganesh - Log on the site tomorrow ;)
Tricky - There has been a noticeable slow down in the amount of flavours being brought out by Nestle in Japan. I don't have a clue why!?
Nigel - I'm getting seriously nervous yes. I have said to everyone that has asked me for a prediction ... if you were going to put money on it, you would put it on Barcelona. You wouldn't feel all that confident about it though would you!? I really think we have a superb chance tomorrow. I hope its a really great game.
Kieran - I remember those Frosties sweets. They were like 10p a roll weren't they.
Jamie - No it was that pale brown colour. Like a faded original.
Darren - I hadn't but I will take a look now. Its about time that mint was the latest flavour craze in Japan. Keep your eyes peeled on that one emerging.
David - Good find chap. I never knew we had that one.
Peter - Hey I wouldn't ever criticise someone elses opinion. Despite what some of the comments say I don't think my opinion is any more valid than anyone elses. Each to their own and all that garb :D
Alan - Boy you have mentioned some seriously old school sweets there chap :D I can recall all the ones you mentioned being part of my Pick N Mix bag when I was a nipper. My all time favourite had to be the fruit salads and black jacks though. I could never get enough of those. If you ever come across these Kit Kats I seriously think it is worth your time. The synergy of the Kit Kat wafer and nostalgic flavourings really works here.
JK - Lucky!? Hmmm I don't know if that is the word. I would just prefer to think they matched up the flavours and other bar components well.
Ravi - If you want traditional Japanese flavours there are plenty more than a few to be checking out. Adzuki beans, Green Tea, Sweet Potatoe .... there are loads.
William - Haha normally I wouldn't allow such a comment to appear condemning a company. As it is cybercandy though I will let it slide haha!
Phil - As I said to Alan I think it is well worth you taking a look if you fancy a nice nostalgia hit. I think you would really like them.
Ana - Nice find. I see that brand of wafers on sale all the time in coffee shops like Costa etc. I've not ever seen those cola flavoured ones mind you.
Jorge - G&T? V&T? Lager? I wouldn't put it past them either haha! Lets just see before we write them off.
Thanks everyone - enjoy the bank holiday weekend and enjoy 7days of chocolate reviews tomorrow.
JIM
Ahh Fruit Salad and Black jacks, I used to enjoy thsoe too. My sisters fiance has a thing for Fruit Salads. I have a soft spot for Drumsticks too!
