Nabisco Oreo Green Tea SticksKcal 52 Fat 2.0g Carbs 8.9g (per pack - 3 Stix)
A few months ago you may recall me reviewing the original Nabisco Oreo Sticks (See HERE) where I settled on describing them as a 'tasty, yet non-substantial snack'. These Green Tea Sticks (Yes they have rid away with the silly 'Stix' spelling :D ) offered a largelly similar experience, though their non-substantiality (new word!) was made even greater due to them being rationed in even smaller sized packs. Indeed, there were noticeable differences from the orginals from the outset - the sticks were portioned in three packs as opposed to two, and the green tea aromas were forthcoming and a little curious. Taste wise the lack of flavour from the wafer constituents meant that it was the green tea element that took over the majority of the taste, with the grassy, herby flavours creating a great impression as soon as they were crunched in the mouth. Although I understand that smaller packs might be suitable as 'taster' portions, as actual snacks they will be non-sufficent for even the smallest of tummy rumbles. If you fancy a smaller option to try a green tea flavoured product out these are a viable option - otherwise I would urge you to look for bigger pack sizes.

Nabisco Oreo Chocolate Bar Green Tea MiniKcal 46 Fat 2.7g Carbs 4.9g (per 8.5g Mini)
I had previously reviewed this bar in it's large form so I would urge you to take a look at that review (See HERE) to get my extensive thoughts and ChocolateMission rating.
What I like about these Nabisco Oreo Chocolate Bar Green Tea Mini is that they are the perfect size for trying out a green tea flavour variant for anyone that is a little cautious about trying it. The 8.5g provide fantastic bitesized soundbites of what the flavouring offers and I would say are highly suitable for sharing amongst a group of people. I would recommend them on those two basis.

Nabisco Oreo Bits Sandiwiches Green Tea MiniKcal 295 Fat 12.6g Carbs 41.6g (per 60.0g Mini)
Whereas the first two products featured were most suitable for sharing or just sampling the green tea flavouring out, these Nabisco Oreo Bits Sandiwiches Green Tea Mini were a far more substantial 60.0g product offering. Quite simply these Bits Sandwiches were mini sized Oreos that really chaught the eye with their bright green coloured creme fillings. As you might expect the initial stages of the taste experience were largelly consistent with any oreo experience with the chocolate cookie portion providing a sweet, chocolatey wheat crunchy context. The green tea element however was soon the focus of the taste, with the grassy, herby elements coming through strongly as soon the creme was uncovered. Unlike with the Sticks, the more substantial sweet flavours from the cookie portions provied to be a better counterbalance for the minor bitterness created by the tea. As a flavour experience I would summarise all these green tea products as more interesting than necessarilly tasty. If you fancy a more substantial Oreo green tea product snack this is definitely the one.

Nabisco Oreo Chocolate Bar AppleKcal 202 Fat 12.0g Carbs 21.0g (per 36.5g bar)
It's not all freaky green tea :D The last Oreo product I'm featuring today is this Nabisco Oreo Chocolate Bar Apple. Before trying this apple variant I had reviewed several different flavours before with varying success - Caramel Coffee, Dark Bitter, Original etc. My initial impressions of this flavour were none to impressed - the fruit smells emanating from the wrapper came across as artifical, even to the extent that they were hard to identify as apple. I was also a little unimpressed by the lack of the communication of the apple variant on the wrapper - as a non-Japanese speaker it would have been impossible to tell what flavour this bar was without prior knowledge. Thankfully my grumbles can end there, as this bar tasted fantastic. As with so many of the other aforementioned flavours, the chocolate coating and inner creme icing were a delightful combination, and they created the Oreo experience in a substantial chocolate bar form. As a lover of dried fruit, I was absolutely delighted to see that the apple flavouring was integrated through small freeze dried apple pieces. They created a remarkable texture, and unlike the smells suggested, the sweet apple fruit flavours came across as very 'real' tasting. Apple flavoured chocolates are extremelly rare but this is one certainly to check out if you are a fan of the combination. I would certainly have this bar again in the future - it's one to look out for.

Crikey Jim you got a lot of green stuff featured today lol. If you don't like green tea there isn't going to be much of interest :) I never drink green tea as a beverage but I'm getting increasingly keen to try it in some sort of chocolate. I wasn't convinced at first but if its become as popular as you are suggesting it has then I think its worth trying.
Jim do you have an opinion on why in Japan some western chocolates are really popular but others aren't? Say why for instance is it that kit kats and oreos are popular, and why aren't things like Twix or Snickers? Its not as if you would say the first two are higher quality or anything. Is it just random?
Lol I can't get over how bright green the oreo cream looks. I find it a little off putting me, I expect it to be it's usual pristine white colour. It just looks a bit unnatural like that.
The sticks and cookies I would pass up on but I think the chocolate bars both look cool. I like the sound of making the middle a combination of chocolate and the icing cream bit of the cookies. Thats a clever idea. Fingers crossed they think about launching at least the original few flavours over here. I wont hold my breath for the green tea though. I don't think that would ever be popular enough to see daylight on our shelves.
I've got a real urge to go buy some oreos now. Lol not tea flavoured ones though.
You don't miss out on anything do you jim! I like the fact you are game for trying anything. It makes things a lot easier on the rest of us :)
Love the reviews today J. I'm not convinced by these green tea chocolate you keep posting about but I think I'm more coming round to the idea than I once was. Now when I see them I don't get that turning feeling in my stomach which I did when I saw your first couple lol.
Rxxx
Jim I've been retweeting your reviews all week you better be keeping track of this for your competition :P You never said anything about entering multiple times on your original tweet :P I NEED that Snickers Peanut Butter big time.
I can't help but laugh when I see things like this abroad. It's pretty unbelievable that we have only just got the Oreo Double Stuff cookies when places like Japan get crazy flavours like green tea as a matter of course. It sorta tells you just how unadventurous our food tastes are here when slightly adapting the amount of just one filling bit constitutes as a massive step change.
Lol my friend convinced me to have a lipton iced green tea the other day and it was ok actually. Considering I normally drink bottles of coke I felt like it was a decent healthier alternative. I hope it was anyway, I didn't look at the amount of sugar in it.
Great reviews Jimbo. It's a little annoying you can't get your reviews out earlier sometimes cause these look like they are sold out now. I would be pretty keen trying to get some of those cookies if I had the chance. They aren't up on the site anymore though
Hi i'm a long time reader first time commenter :) I just wanted to say I love your website. Its so amazing you make a livelyhood out of reviewing chocolate. I think that would be most young persons dream job!!!!! Are you getting sick of chocolate? Do you have a picture so we can see what you look like?
There is way too much green food for me to stomach this early in the morning. I feel a little green round the gills myself now lol.
If there is any chance of posting your review of the new vanilla pocky can you do it in the next few days please. Im desperate to hear if they are any good. If your not planning to can you just leave a note here saying what you think of them generally?
Are they better or worse than the other flavours?
These green tea chocolates are always good to see for a laugh. I don't believe for a minute that anyone in a right state of mind would genuinely want to eat a green tea flavoured chocolate anything. I can see the attraction of trying one of these bars for a laugh but I can't see any other reason, certainly not for enjoyment.
Hey J
You must be pleased to be in the final now? I can't believe how rubbish Schalke turned out to be. They were embarrassing for a champions league semi final.
Love the reviews today. You must be sick of green tea now. Thats an awful lot of green tea chocolate to have to try in one go.
Cheers
N
I wish we could get more flavours of oreos here but I'm not to fussed about the green tea ones, Japan can keep them for the minute me thinks lol.
I just took a look through some of your older reviews and saw the double stuff mint oreos. Epic man, Epic!!! We need those sensible sort of flavours asap!
@GoldenTouch Agreed. Way way way too much green tea for my liking to :P
Jim one flavour of oreo chocolate you haven't reviewed yet is the macadamia one. I highly recommend it mate, its the only one I have tried but I thought it was very good when I had it.
It's not all freaky green tea :D The last Oreo product I'm featuring today is this Nabisco Oreo Chocolate Bar Apple.
....its just as yuck though Mr! You managed to pick four things that I wouldn't even consider eating today lol.
As a flavour experience I would summarise all these green tea products as more interesting than necessarilly tasty.
..... an experience??? Lol thats exactly what you said about Hershey chocolate a few days ago. You are the most 'glass half full' person I know. If something is rubbish, say its rubbish. You are allowed :P
I just RT this review on twitter. Make sure I get put in your compeitition drawn please jim.
@lonestar
Cheers for getting round to reviewing these mate, I saw them all appear on J-List the other week but I didn't know which to buy so I just chanced it and bought the sticks ones cause I hadn't seen them before. You're right about them not being filling at all but I do think you should have given a better score for them. I solved that by eating all three packs at once :P You should have jus done that silly. I wish I had bought the cookies now :( Annoyingly they are sold out now.
I had noticed that in recent times there were more and more oreo things coming out. Last time I was in cybercandy in birmingham I saw that they had a few of the flavours of oreo bars like strawberry and macadamia. The one I really want to try is the coffee caffe one but they didn't have it in stock :(
Yay more japanese chocs =) =) You've slipped back to reviewing anything but British chocs again but I don't mind =P
It is a little funny how the people in the East latch on to some western brands but not others. They do it with fashion as well, some of our brands do really well over there whilst others just don't even make it on the radar. I would love to understand more about Japanese pop culture.
Cool reviews man. I always enjoy a good bits n bobs post.
Awesome oreo post mate. This reminds me I saw double stuff ones on sale in tesco last weekend. I think I remember you telling people you could only get them in Asda orginally. When I first had them I noticed that you get more cream in the middle but now when I see normal sized oreos I just think they don't have enough and that its missing. I wont ever be able to look at the older style ones the same now.
Grean Tea????? I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole. No thank you sir!
Sorry but I think there is a fine line between being unique and just utter madness and I think green tea chocolates falls in to the last one. I can't think there has to be a huge demand for green tea chocolate, even with people in Japan. I know they drink it a lot more but surely kids can't like it that much.
Has anyone here ever had one of the Oreo Krush'ems? OMG it's like the nicest ice cream ever. I haven't been to KFC for ages now but I think I heard they swapped it out for a Dairy Milk Krush'em instead. I would of thought that would be a bit less exciting than the oreo one.
Only one way to find out :-)
The meiji green tea white chocolate I had last year wasn't bad but it wasn't one I would buy again when there are so many other bits and pieces to try.
I don't like Oreos that much but I find it fascinating how Japanese people seem to love them so much. They don't seem to be making as many Kit Kat flavours anymore :( Why do you think there is a sudden cull of them?
Isn't it round about this time that they stop selling chocolate on this sort of site? I remember you saying that they did last year because the summer got to hot to send chocolate in the post. Lol I better stock up on my pocky for the next few months.
Jim are these all sold out on jlist? They aren't listing most of these on their site anymore!!! I want the cookies mate, can you send me the link please.
Have you ever thought about doing more than just chocolate reviews and broadening the site to cover all of snacking? I've seen you widen your spectrum of reviews across cakes and biscuits in recent months but I think it would be cool if you start doing other snacks alongside them like crisps and all that sort of stuff. I know it wouldn't fit the name of the site but I think people would love to see the development. Maybe you could allow some of us readers to start writing reviews for you?
In one swoop the Japanese have created just as many oreo products than we do original ones :s Either they are creating too many or we are just boring. I haven't decided which one is a fairer reflection of this situation - I expect it is probably a mixture of the two.
The cookies look so shocking. The green colour is just a bit too brightly coloured isn't it :)
That apple bar sounds well nice but theres no chance of it ever seeing the light of day in any convenient place to buy it. Your comment about there being no apple flavoured chocolates has got me thinking, apart from that Cadbury Bar of Plenty there aren't actually any apple flavoured chocolates about are there?
Hurrah for Bits n Bobs :) I don't know what people are on about saying you haven't reviewed any Japanese chocolates this year, you've done loads if my recollection is right.
If you get the chance I would love to see you feature some more of those Tyrol chocolates. It looks like they have a pretty extensive set of flavours they make.
Next time just review the normal flavour. Green tea is wrank tasting.
Somehow, I still find green fillings a little off putting, even though I'm fine with drinking green tea and I've recently tried a nice lime filled chocolate bar (yes, the filling looked green).
The apple bar sounds very tempting. You're right, there aren't enough apple chocolates around (I only remember trying three this year - from Zotter, Tohi and Blanxart)
Kit Kats are popular in Japan because of the name initially - Kitto KAtsu is (roughly) a phrase meaning "You will surely succeed!" so Kit-Kats became the snack of choice for superstitious exam candidates. I don't know if there's a similar story for Oreos though :)
Hi Everyone,
I've really loved the quality of some of your comments today :D They have been very funny to read some of them. The green tea reviews always seems to bring out the funny side of people haha!
Having tried so many green tea chocolates now I keep forgetting that it isn't the most common of flavours :D I will try keep this more front of mind next time.
DAVID - I have no idea why they take some more than others but if you look across what is popular it tends to be the lighter, wafer like products that do well. In Japan it doesn't look like they care much for stuff like caramel or nougat. Peanuts aren't really something they use either.
RACHEL - Oh dear I don't like hearing my reviews used to make you feel ill haha :D
ANDY - Don't worry winners will be informed this weekend.
MITTZYKINS - Welcome to the site. This isn't my full time job I'm afraid. No I'm not getting sick of chocolate - I don't eat as much of it as you would imagine. A photo? I don't think I need to subject you guys to that now :D
KEV - I have a special Chocolate Sticks post coming up next week chap.
NIGEL - Very pleased with the result last night. Schalke were indeed terrible for a CL semi final team. It's all about Sunday now! We better win.
MYSTERIO - To this day I maintain that Double Stuff Mint are by far the best flavour out there.
ANTHONY - Thanks for the suggestion. Noted.
KATIE - Funny you say that. Just this week I was told I was the most pessimistic person going :D Sorry I couldn't feature anything you fancied. I can't meet everyones desires all the time though.
SAKURA - Not this again :D Don't worry this weekend snack of the week will be from the UK.
NEIL - Haha I don't think even the most exhaustive of research would ever give any of us the first understanding of how the Japanese operate :D They have a wonderfully complex culture. I would love to visit there one day.
HENRY - Thanks for the info. I think they were only Asda exclusive for a short amount of time.
LEWIS - Indeed JList are going to stop selling chocolate soon. Get your orders in whilst you can guys and girls.
IAN - It looks like these did sell like hot cakes! Keep an eye on the site though, they do come in and out of stock quite frequently depending on supply.
OLLIE - I have considered broadening the horizons a bit more. Snack of the week should cover this off nicely. For the minute I will be keeping the site to just my 'Chocolate Mission' though. That job is big enough at the moment haha :D
FREDDIE - I can't think of any no!
ANA - You aren't the first person to say that today :D They do look a tad un natural some of these products don't they.
Glad to see you enjoyed the reviews guys and girls. Normality will be restored on ChocolateMission next week with the three reviews posted. For anyone wondering it was the bank holidays which effected the post frequency ... I gave myself some time off :D :D
JIM
Jim I have a few review requests m8. I would stick them on the request page but it doesn't look like you are updating that anymore. Here you go:
Bourbon Choco Anpan
Tirol Chocolate -- Tiramisu Flavor
Morinaga Koeda Double Coffee
Glico Chocolate on Chocolate Pocky Vanilla
Meiji Meltkiss Fran
Seeing your thoughts on any of them would be cool. Lol half the time its just seeing your pictures of them that I find most useful. Its annoying not being able to see what the products actually look like on jlist. They never do product shots like you do, just packaging ones.
I don't want to be negative but I wouldn't have posted about so many green tea flavour things in just the one review mate. Sorry but speaking as someone who has no interest in green tea interest whatsoever I was disappointed seeing all four bits n bobs entries were all green tea =( I don't suppose it helps that I can't stand apples either so that one is a no go for me to. Next time can you mix it up with some Pocky or something to mix it up.
Jim I've just seen on Jbox that they are selling oreos that are produced and made in japan rather than bought over from america. Are these any different to the ones we get or is it a bit of a con just to make us think they are different? I love oreos so i'm half curious about trying them. I would consider myself quite the expert on them ;)
Your so lucky getting to review so many cool things from Jlist jimbo. I've ordered a few times with them before but I can substantiate proper reasoning for buying stuff from them too much as its a little expensive. At least I have you to show me the good stuff :P Thanks man.
I wish they had made a different fruit flavour to apple. Banana or cherry would have been nice. Lol wouldn't it be funny if somone tried to do a tooty-fruity and put loads of different fruits in one bar. Now that sounds like a good plan lol.
They wouldn't dare release anything like these things in the UK would they? Lol they haven't even made two of the formats for a start which is never a good thing. We don't have any oreo chocolate bars, we don't have the sticks ....... I haven't even seen oreos minis for ages now. I would be happy if we just got the original flavours let alone green tea.
I think I'm going to have to get myself a green tea chocolate now. Before I was totally against the idea and thought the kit kats and stuff were just a gimmick. The sheer populairty of them has got me a little intrigued though, they can be a best seller without being half decent .... I hope thats the case anyway lol.

You are on to a losing battle trying to convince me about these green tea hun. I'm still totally unconvinced about the whole concept. Some of these look like they would be a nice way of trying it out but there are still 101 other japanese chocolates I want to try before a green tea one gets anywhere near me.
Green tea just sounds disgusting. I don't know why anyone would want to have it with chocolate.
What a silly way of ruining perfectly good oreos.
They're obsessed with making things so unusual over there aren't they. They never have normal flavours of anything.
A normal oreo bar with a layer of caramel would be just great, not that they would do that.
Those green tea mini Oreo sandwiches kinda look like they're filled with crushed goblin or something :D
I Love green tea flavoured chocolate, I would love to try these.
It is an acquired taste I'll admit, but reading the previous comments on this post, I'm starting to think some of you are really unadventurous to say the least.
Also you've got to understand that green tea has so many varieties and tastes so those of you that have passed judgement on green tea being disgusting, you have to understand that they it isn't the same as sencha (the normal variety that can be bought and drunk)
I'm just saying...

I don't think I would be brave enough to touch those oreos since the color says caterpillars to me, but I love that you've done a green tea roundup. That is interesting what Yin says about the different varieties, cause I think normal green tea is too bitter, but those green tea Kit Kats are subtly addictive.
