What an amazing stretch of bank holidays and royal weddings we just had huh!?
I'm sure you will all be glad to know that the usual posting schedule will return this week with reviews on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I know I always say this but I have some genuinely exciting things in store for you all including a whole new range of bars from Cadbury, some more crazyness from Japan and then whatever I fancy ending the week on :D
Looking below you will see that 'Snack of the Week' was more like 'Disappointment of the Week' - Have any of you sampled the delights (tongue in cheek here!) of McVitie's new (term used loosely) Twix Caramel Slices?
You guys might want to check out Hotel Chocolat this weekend - there are further reductions on their Easter chocolates and they are starting to get their summer lines added to the website to. Let me know if you spot anything you want reviewed.
Right I'm off to update the News Page with the non-existent news articles on chocolate this week. At least we can always bank on a few laughs from Thorntons' explaining their shortcomings for the umpteenth time.

Kcal 142 Fat 7.8g Fat(sats) 4.3g Carbs 16.6g (Per Slice)A few weeks ago I read with great excitement about these Twix Caramel Slices in 'The Grocer Magazine' - See HERE. Being a fan of the original Twix bar, and of course a lover of Millionaire Shortbread cakes, I kept a keen eye out for them in my local supermarkets and I found them just last weekend in Tesco priced on a £1 introductory deal. Packaging wise I was impressed with the outer and inner wrappers and I liked the consistency brought over from other Twix products. Upon revelation of the slices however, an unnerving sense of familiarity came across me. McVitie's couldn't possibly have done this?? Could they?? ... Yes ... unfortunately they had!! Anyone remember these - McVitie's Caramel Shortcake See HERE??? Well welcome to the all new repackaged version! Indeed these were every bit as poor as those used to be - some might say even poorer due to their slightly smaller size. If you want my more in depth analysis I suggest heading to that old review - I refuse to waste all your time on such cheeky use of branding. To say I was disappointed with these is an understatement.

We had those original ones a few times and I never thought they were any good. Like you I would have been one of those people that jumped at the chance to try some brand spanking new millionaires. I will make sure I tell my mum not to buy them.
Wow mcvities are trying to pull a fast one on everyone aren't they. I can't decide whether its clever on their part or more dishonest. Its probably a bit of both isn't it. Its not nice from our POV but it makes sense to do it if you were them.

I was going to submit that story about thorntons blaming the hot weather for their poor sales but you got it already. Lol I like your comment about them doing the same at the end of last year when the weather was to cold. I think they should be able to sell chocolate whatever the weather. It shouldn't effect them that much.
Those caramel slices don't sound great. I was expecting them to get loads higher than 5.8, thats just crap.
Man that is pretty underhand by Mcvities there. I wouldn't of expected that of them.

Some of those deals on HC are madness. You can get that Purist egg for £12 now when it was originally £30! They must have been making a hell of a profit on it originally if they can now afford to flog it off for that much.

I was looking for them the other week because my brother asked for them on the shopping list.
I think its a bit cheeky of them but i can understand why they would do it. They will sell a ton more with Twix on the front.
Thats some crafty workings from twix there. They look completely different on the outside but I can see they are the same product if that product shot is of the new ones. Lol Did you bother taking a new one or did you keep it the same from the mcvities branded ones?

I don't think I ever would of bought those twix things anyway. I don't see how anyone is ever going to better the Thorntons Mini Shortcake Slices for value and taste. Whilst we are on the topic have you seen the new packaging?

@David I was going to remark about that story about thorntons aswell. Lol they are so stupid sometimes. No one believes their excuses. They just aren't selling as much chocolate are they.
The caramel slices look so good in the pictures. Lol you should have messed them up a bit so they look more rubbish.
I'm going to test them out myself because they are only a quid. It will be disappointing if you are right though. I was hoping they would be more exciting than just something repackaged DOHHHHHH!
Damn its annoying to see what they have done there. I think these had great potential to be really good if they had just played around with the amounts of caramel and chocolate from the normal twix. A missed opportunity if you ask me.

Regarding the Twix Slices ... well what more can I say guys? It was so disappointing to find out they were just repackaged goods. Not cool in the slightest.
DAVID - They have been a little unlucky with the odd weather we have had in Q4 2010 and Q1 2011 but that said its not like anyone else has come out blaming the weather for poor performance.
RICHARD - Not slacking at all :D Just taking some time off with all the holidays we have had here in the UK. A guys got to have a break sometime huh!?

i feel a few of you need to be updated about the twix slice. twix slice is a product produced by mc vities under licence to mars. there were various reasons why caramel slice were de-listed.
1. problems with caramel consistency.
2. low sales.
3. wrapping issues.
the new twix slice is different in a few ways.
1. a shortcake biscuit is used instead of digestive
2. the chocolate used is galaxy chocolate.
3. money was invested in installing machinery to eradicate problems with caramel consistency.
it may look like the old caramel slice but you can tell the difference in taste through using a different biscuit base and better quality chocolate.
it is also a much better product to work with being an employee of the company. sales are also going through the roof with the product with supermarkets wanting them faster than they can be made.
