Whose been keeping an eye on the ChocolateMission NEWS PAGE then??? Well if you were last week than you would have seen the announcement of the these three new Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss Truffle Bars in the press. Following on from last years initial Bliss offering (Vanilla Truffle - See HERE), these new Bliss Truffle 110.0g bars are supposed to provide "a little pampering at home after a stressful day", with the new larger format designed for in-home consumption rather than "the smaller bars which are more suitable for on the go".
Just like the Cadbury Dairy Milk Bar of Plenty range release last year, this new line of bars features three different flavours straight from launch - Chocolate Truffle, Toffee Truffle & Hazelnut Truffle. All three came packaged in very cool looking cardboard boxes that contained 16 large sized blocks which could be consumed comfortably in two bites. My overall perceptions of the presentation were very positive, and the new cardboard sleeve design and product concept for that matter reminded me of the Milka Amavel range - some Kraft influence coming through perhaps?
Here are my brief thoughts on each of the three flavours:

Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss Chocolate TruffleKcal 125 Fat 8.2g Fat(sats) 4.6g Carbs 10.7g (per 2 chunks)
This was obviously the least interesting one to me out of all three what with it being just a dual textured Dairy Milk offering. As was the case across all the bars, the outer portion of the chocolate broke with a nice crispness and was just about the right thickness to provide a the familiar, thick sweet cream based Dairy Milk experience before revelation of the truffle layer below. As expected, with this particular variant the taste showed little to no progression with the exposure of the middle truffle, though that said the pace of the melt quickened with the softer textural feel. This bar reminded me a lot of the Galaxy Truffle bar I reviewed earlier this year in that it was a nice enough chocolate but not one that necessarilly needed making.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss Hazelnut TruffleKcal 125 Fat 8.3g Fat(sats) 4.5g Carbs 10.5g (per 2 chunks)
Given the amount of praline chocolates I try nowadays from the likes of Hotel Chocolat I was a little concious that Cadbury might struggle to create a decent impression on me with their own attempt at a hazelnut truffle bar. In the ingredients list I was pleasantly surprised to read hazelnut paste, rather than hazelnut pieces - it sure would have been a dumb idea to upset the delightfully smooth mouth feel melt created by these truffle offerings. Speaking of the bar's textures, the feel of the middle filling was nicely differentiated, with it having more of a slower paced, drier feel compared to both the Toffee & Chocolate. For the record, this was no issue for me whatsoever - it just meant that the surprisingly strong hazelnut flavours gripped more in the mouth, and created a longer sustained savoury nut impression. This made for a very satisfying chocolate that was better than I was expecting.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss Toffee TruffleKcal 125 Fat 7.8g Fat(sats) 4.5g Carbs 11.4g (per 2 chunks)
This flavour chaught my attention from the outset for two reasons. Firstly the choice of colour for the packaging made it look exactly like the old Cadbury Dairy Milk Apricot Crumble that they got rid only just over a year ago - perhaps a little confusing for less well informed folk maybe!? Secondly the bar smelt exceedingly sweet when I released it from it's foil confines - a strong set of burnt sugar notes had me a little worried this was going to be a sugary abyss given how sweet Dairy Milk is already these days. Well I shouldn't have been so concerned - this bar tasted wonderful, and the toffee truffle centre exceeded expectations. Unlike the aromas it generated the smells suggested, the truffle was more notable for it's buttery caramel flavours rather than merely just progression the sugar authoritiveness. The Toffee flavours created weren't long lasting, but they were incredibly moreish and the delightful butterscotch taste left me coming back for more time and time again.
8.1 out of 10
Overall if you have read the reviews it isn't exactly rocket science to work out which of these three I suggest you get acqauinted with. Cutting the long story short, the Chocolate Truffle was what it was - a plainer offering for those who either don't like nuts or caramel. Although that bar was a little unexciting the other two offerings were anything but. The Toffee Truffle exceeded expectations with it's smooth, moreish caramel truffle tones, and the Hazelnut Truffle was just as good (if not better!) with it's surprisingly accomplished rounded hazelnut taste. The sensible RRP price of £1.39 I think make these a rather decent offering for those looking for a more luxurious Cadbury offering. It's nice to see one of our chocolate producers focusing on heightening their quality for once rather than the more obvoius 'cheaper alternatives' route given the economic situation. Give them a try and let me know what you think.

Hey i saw your news update last week so I was looking forward to seeing your reviews of these. One thing I like this time is that they haven't explicitly said these are just for women. On the last BOP and Bliss releases they said that the bars were made with women in mind. I hope the campaign they talk about is a bit more masculine. Theres no need to miss us lot out lol.
What a cool set of new chocolates. I will defo been trying these as soon as poss. I just need to bloomin find them. The shops near me are always so crap for new products.
None of them appeal to me that much but since they are cheap I will probably give them a chance. Thank you for getting the reviews done so quick.
I will never understand why you give cadburys chocolate such high ratings. Do you have any idea that it has has 'vegetable fat' in their chocolate. Sounds appetising doesn't it. I think I will stick with purer chocolate thanks.
Dairy milks is the best. So looking forward to getting these.
Jim have you seen the new dairy milk advert 'clothes off'?
I got a link for you here if you haven't http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk4U2uJuFAI
I think its ok. Not as good as the phil collins monkey one but loads better than that random airport one last.
How did you get hold of these all so quickly? If you bought them in a shop that is so stupid. They don't even bother building up any excitement anymore. They just release the statements about these bars coming out at the same time they get put in the shops now. Half the excitement about a new cadburys bar was hearing about it and then spending ages trying to spot them in the shops. Its all different now.
These aren't three flavours I would have chosen. I would have gone for two fruit ones and then one white chocolate. As you know I don't like nuts so I wouldn't ever go for the hazelnut. The toffee just sounds like such an obvious choice as well, it just would have been nice to have seen something different for once. The milk chocolate truffle just sounds pointless to me.
Rxxx
Hun do you know if the toffee and double chocolates one are nut free?
LOL I might be the only person today who says I don't fancy these at all. I neither like toffee or hazelnuts and the normal milk chocolate just sounds like those horrible koko chocs repackaged into a bar. I think I can do without these so I will leave them to the rest of you choco freaks :P
Let me at that toffee truffle now :) :) :) It sounds gorgeous.
Are these coming in to replace the Bar of Plenty chocolates? Has anyone noticed that Cadbury never create anything that sticks any more. More often than not these things like the bar of plenty etc just end up being around for one year and then getting replaced by the next 'big thing'. If I were them I would be worried that nothing they make anymore sticks around for any time at all.
It took me ages to figure out what these bars looked like. Actually I didn't work it out at all until you mentioned it in the review. I always thought it was a damn shame that they didn't support those granola bars more. I didn't like the cranberry one as much but the apricot was a bar that I bought every so often.
At least they are using dairy milk again for some of their latest stuff. I was getting worried at the amount of chocolates they were starting to make with their cheaper chocolate with less milk in.
Yum yum. The toffee flavour is going to be a must try for me I think. Thanks for the reviews J.
I wouldn't wish to comment negativelty on any of them before trying them, though I can't understand why they would make the plain chocolate truffle. It's such a waste of a flavour. There are a million and one things they could have done its annoying.
Im going to bite the bullet and ask the dummy question that always gets asked :-)
Where can i buy these Jim? Are they supposed to be in the shops now?
Cracking review mate. Good to see you back in form with the new products.
Are cadbury the new ritter sport or something? I've never know them to issue so many new flavours in such a short amount of time. If you count things like the nibbles, chocettes, crunchie rocks its quite amazing actually. It's not like there have been that many bad ones either .
That price isn't that impressive for 100 grams of chocolate. You can buy 200 grams of aero orange for less than that now (£1).
Its funny I've never seen Cadbury make chocolate with blocks that big before. Its all change at the big C by the looks of it all.
Did you ever announce who won the competition you ran on twitter Jim? I tried searching your feed but it was all retweets of other people.
@Midgley
I know this is a very silly question but why the fiddlesticks are they making bars that are 110 grams large?
Lol sorry it just seems like such a random size for them to make. It's neither big or small. You would have thought they would have just made them as big as the massive dairy bars (250 ones. 110 is just random man.
I want to try these Asap now. Its finally nice to see a set of new chocolates get some high scores for once. All the last few things haven't done very well if you look at them. I love your consistency btw. Similar chocolates always seem to get consistent scores, like the galaxy smooth truffle got 7.2 and the cadburys one got 7.7. Can you remember all the scores you give out?
Quality reviews Jim lad. I might treat my little lady to the chocolate truffle one if I can find it later. She loves cadburys chocolate and these look well smart.
I tried do a search on mysupermarket for these but they aren't appearing up there yet. If anyone knows of a place to buy them please let us all know. Jim you never said where you managed to get yours from.
P.s. Well done Man U on winning the title.
They could have gone to the effort of making the chocolates look different to one another. They all look the same in your pictures, lol are you sure that you have them all the right way round :)
The choice of flavours is so lazy. They could have tried to be more creative than just the bog standard toffee and hazelnut options. Sorry for being a negative ninny but its true don't you think. Have they never heard of marzipan? pistachio? coffee (Jim lol!), even something random like the Japanese would do (no not green tea :P). Cadbury could learn something from them.
Lol I didn't even know these were due out. That shows how much I check the news page!
@Nick that new advert is terrible. I don't see how it makes sense at all? How is that supposed to make me want to eat chocolate?
They keep making those type of adverts don't they. They are just more random than they are anything else. The eyebrows one was by far the worst in recent memories. God I hated that one.
A bar of chocolate to enjoy after work? Lol what if you dont work? I still go to college :) Does that mean I'm not allowed to buy these ones?
Ooooh you have really whett my appetite to try these all now. I can't say im looking forward to trying one any more than the other but the hazelnut does sound splendid from what you say. Praline chocolates (guylian and the like) are some of my favourites so if I can find a cheapo cadbury one that does the same job then thats all the better.
Hey J
You must be well pleased about the football? I can't believe you scored so early against them lol it was all over after 37 seconds wasn't it?
Anyways well done to united. I think you deserve it all on the balance of things. Liverpool are gonna win tonight btw ;) we can still get 4th spot you know.
Awesome reviews this morning. Its always terrific being able to see what you think of the new products when they come out. You are a load more positive about these than other news of late.
Cheers
N
I love anything with dairy milk. So pleased Cadburys have made some new flavours of it. Wicked.
David those adverts are made so people talk about them. I think they are some of the cleverest ads made by a company in years. As soon as they come out everyone knows who made it. Whats the point them saying 'we are cadbury and we make chocolate' ....... everyone know that already.
Cool reviews jim. Looking forward to trying these myself.
Ack no..If these are replacing the bar of plenty ones I better stock up on the strawberry shortcake. The toffee apple isn't bad either, it will be a rite shame if they do disappear.
The flavours aren't bad but I think they could have been a little more adventurous with them. They could have at least not bothered with the plain one and made it dark or even white chocolate if they dared. The most obvious (and probs best) woud have been a simple fruit one like orange or someting.
I wasn't a fan of the smaller vanilla bliss they made but I know some people who really love it. I would have liked to have seen these made in smaller bars to so we could have tried them that way. I always get a little annoyed when they bring the new things out in large bars first. Its just a cheeky way of getting us all to pay more if we want to try the new chocs.
My initial thoughts were that these were just going to be a way of putting thos Koko truffles into bars but looking at them they look like they have more to them than that. For a starter they are made with proper dairy milk chocolate and not that cheaper stuff. Its also nice to see they didn't try and spoil the truffle sensation by putting small bits of nut or toffee in either of them.I don't get it when we see these truffle chocolates with bits in. They are supposed to be smooth dammit.
"...and the toffee truffle centre exceeded expectation" - always nice when something's better than you expected isn't it? :) I'm so up for trying these bars. Do you reckon they'll have 'em in Tescos yet? Thanks for the brillyunt review dude x
They all look the same.
Brill seeing the reviews up so early J. Nice work laddy.
My sister bought two of these, the toffee and the chocolate truffle - and theyre delicious! We both liked teh chocolate truffle and I like the toffee more than she does.
Im surprised you didnt get more flavour difference in the chocolate truffle Jim - we were surprised as we thought it would taste just like a softer DM but no, we got a much stronger cocoa taste coming through lol. very nice, and nearly all gone grrr
The Toffee one is fab, and you know it reminds me of a Crunchie in Truffle form! :D that was what I immediately thought of :)
I will have to try the hazlenut one now. I also like the presntation, but hope they bring out smaller versions like the original vanilla one.
I dont think theyre replacing Bar of Plenty with these, theyve just added to that range recently. Personally I like the fact theyre bringing out all these different new bars, of course some will 'stick' and some wont, but unless they try them we'd never get any new products lol. Its a shame Mars and Nestle cant be bothered!
I've been seeing more Cadburry stuff stateside, but as these look so similar to the Hershey Bliss range, I wonder if we'll see both hit the US market.
Hi All,
Thanks for the quality responses today. It's great hearing from so many of you on your initial thoughts about these three. Hopefully as time go past you guys will all try them out for yourselves and give a response with some more first hand views on what you think of them all.
I would encourage you all to give them a try if you can - If you are baulking at the price or the size of them remember you can always share with a friend :D
NICK - Yep saw it on TV last night for the time. I think it's ok myself - the choice of music is quite engaging. It seems to be a tried and tested formula that is working out quite well for them.
LISA - I got sent these by one of Cadbury's PR agencies.
LINDA - Like most things I think the packaging says 'produced in a factory where there are other nut products made' ... they don't actually contain nuts themselves I don't think though. Don't hold me to that please.
JAMES - No I don't think these are replacing the Bar of Plenty. Incidently I saw them in the supermarket at the weekend also and they were sat next to the Bar of Plenty bars ... so no they hadn't replaced them.
GANESH - See above.
ANON (MIDGLEY) - I will be announcing the winner tonight when I get the chance.
COLIN - No idea on the 110.0g thing. It all seems a little random to me why they have made them that size. Perhaps it was just the size of the block moulds that determined it!? Who knows! One for Cadbury I think.
KP - Remember all the scores I give out?? Haha no way! I seem to be pretty consistent though huh!? That can only be a good thing.
CHRIS - They are out in Sainsburys from what I know so far. Not sure about anywhere else yet.
CRAIG - Coffee truffle would have been interesting.
GARETH - Haha no I'm sure you are allowed. I think this is predominently being targeted at an older audience though.
NIGEL - Pleased with the football? More like ecstatic!!! Honestly we haven't played a game as well as that all season. I was overjoyed with the result to be honest. We still need that one point though. When we have that I will start celebrating properly. Its a funny game football :D You never know.
ROXY - Not seen them in Tesco yet but I will have a check tonight as I should be making a stop there on my way home. I will give you an update later if thats ok.
ALAN - Nice one for sharing your thoughts chap. You are right about the toffee one it does have a bit of honeycomb about it doesn't it. It's not as overpowering as a crunchie though is it ... more refined and subtle with it's strength of flavour. I think you might enjoy the hazelnut one. Let me know what you think of it when you do try it chap.
Rodzilla - Oh really!? What new ones have come about? I remember those Hershey Bliss chocolates now. I remember them being not too bad at all. Isn't there a new minty flavour out now?
Again thanks for all the responses guys/girls. Sorry I haven't been able to banter back with more of you but there is only so much time a guy has :D I still have lots of reviews to write so I think you would all I rather spend time on them anyway :D
JIM
This would have been the perfect chance to make a mint cream truffle. Hazelnut FAIL.
What ever happened to your attitude of less is more Jim?
You have been criticising all these other manufactures for making too many new chocolates and then you go and give cadburys some really high scores for three pretty generic sounding new ones. Sorry but I think it is just a little unfair.
Good review and pictures mate. Its hard to tell if the chocolates look any different from one another. Could you notice any differene in them at all first hand?
If I wanted a bar like this I would still just choose Lindt. Either their Lindor or Mousse au Chocolat bars are bound to be better than anything Cadburys are ever going to make.
God I hate that packaging style. They are just recycling the same old design work over and over. They have used it across four different ones now they need to get some new ideas from their designers.
I think that is a good shout about the Kraft ways of doing stuff coming through. If you know anything about Milka you will know that whenever they release new flavours they never do it just one bar at a time, its always three or nothing.
On that matter I haven't noticed anything negative so far happen to the chocolates at cadburys. I can't think of an example where the quality has gone down or anything. The only bad thing has been the job losses :( my friends dad lost his job at Cadbury which was sad but hes got something else now so it didn't matter that much. I just hope all the other people that lost their jobs were as lucky.
I get what people are saying about the flavours needing to be more exciting but if you are dairy milk its not like you want to choose things that are too mad.because they then wont sell as much as these common ones. It sounds stupid to be talking about more flavours already but I wouldn't put it past them making more of these.
I think I can excuse you for not having hotel chocolat monday ;) Its always a nice thing to hear about new products that come out, especially when they are made by our country's greatest.
I don't agree golden I think these have obviously been made for women again. Look at the choice of colouring on the packaging - pink, yellow and purple. Hmmm that doesn't sound too manly to me mate.
I'm not saying its an issue for me (will probs still buy them at some point). I just find it irritating that cadburys think that only women are interested in chocolate. Its like walkers all of a sudden making all crisp packets these colours.
Grrrr I do get annoyed when I see all you folk talking about the new cadburys chocolates. It takes forever and a day for anything new to come out where I live. I will have to wait weeks before I even get a sniff of any of these.
I saw these at the weekend but didn't buy any of them cause I wanted to see what you said about them first. Now you have confirmed they are alrite I will be giving the toffee one a go. I don't really like nuts so I will leave the hazelnut until I see it one a super duper deal lol. I get what people are saying about the plain chocolate one. It doesn't do anything for me either, sounds boring if anything.
The new Cadburys advert is meaningless. I hate it when they are that random. The annoying thing is I have only seen it a few times now and I know its going to be playing out for months yet. oh joy.
Omg I didn't have a clue these were coming out. I need to try asap. Please please please have them in tesco. Did you look Jim?
I need chocolate now. This made me so hungry.
GAMER - I like the idea of a mint truffle. It could have been nice.
ALI - I'm a firm believer in FEWER, BIGGER, BETTER innovations rather than a scatter gun approach.
JUSTIN - No not really. The double chocolate was a little darker in colour, but the others were a similar shade.
CARLTONFAN - I would mostly agree with that summary. It is still very early days though. From the insider information I have there have been plenty of job losses within in the senior management of the company also.
JESSE - I would say the packaging is a little more female inclined but in the grand scheme of things it is less so than some other previous Cadbury launches of late.
MICHELLE - I'm thrilled to hear you value my opinions so highly. Thank you.
LOUISE - They weren't in Tesco when I looked earlier no.
Thanks guys & girls.
JIM
These do look good, but like some have said, I'm a little frustrated they (Kraft) didn't take the opportunity to come out with some rarer flavors, like they did with the first vanilla Bliss. I wish they had done a raspberry or a lemon one, like those summer Thornton bars. In fact I'm starting to appreciate the Thorntons squared bars more and more because their flavor combinations are imaginative. lol I think I'm forever spoiled re variety after trying the fabulously addictive green tea Kit Kats.
PS @Alan the Crunchie analogy is interesting, I wonder if they used the same flavoring. That also reminds me I tried a Crunchie ice cream bar and like it better than the real thing; I was thinking if CM decides to foray into ice cream, you could start (or just do) the ice cream bars in side by side comparison with their chocolate counterparts.
PS Those CM photos do a much better job of selling me these than the on-pack.
I've tried the toffee one now and it was disconcerting to have a non-crunchy Crunchie. Seriously, after a couple of squares the sweetness was overpowering to the point that it actually burnt my throat. While this deterred one of my fellow travellers, someone later on the tube was apparently not so choosy as they secretly helped themself to the rest somewhere along the way, I only hope they weren't disappointed like I was.
Half price @ 94 cent for the hazelnut one until 23rd August 2011 in Tescos .
Bliss is not the term I would use to describe these bars. The best thing I think about them is the packaging. The presentation is exquisite, I love the elegant foil wrapping, but when I opened it, I could hardly smell anything.
I've only tried the toffee one, but I found i disappointing. The taste of toffee was far too subtle and I didn't think the Dairy Milk itself tasted as good as the original bar.
I have just tried the Truffle Bliss, and wow, what a difference from the toffee version. Sorry, Jim but I'm going to have to disagree with you on this, the truffle bar is far superior. Not boring in the least. The texture as it melted on my mouth was exquisite and just enhanced the glorious Dairy Milk recipe.
