Cadbury Boost Stix
Cadbury Boost StixKcal 140 Fat 7.7g Fat(sats) 5.4g Carbs 15.7g (per stix)
'Chocolate flavoured centre with biscuit pieces, surrounded in caramel, all covered in Dairy Milk milk chocolate'
Origin: Australia
The Cadbury Boost Stix bar is one of the latest products to come out in Australia and essentially comprises of a standard UK Cadbury Boost split in to two smaller thinner 'Stix' pieces. I was a little confused by the branding given that the Boost bar in the Southern Hemipshere is usually called the Moro (!??), but that aside the packaging and presentation looked reasonable enough and struck me as attractive.
Taste wise there was very little variation from a standard Boost, with the real only point of difference coming in the scale and size. The Dairy Milk chocolate was noticeably a touch thinner in melt compared to our UK stuff, but it was still creamy tasting and led nicely into the surrounding layer of caramel and centre filling of chocolate truffle and biscuit pieces.
Overall this bar was fine for what it was, but I see little point for it unless you are someone who fancies their fill of Cadbury Boost in a more manageable sized portion. To be honest the only time I ever eat the normal Cadbury Boost is when I am in need of a very fulfilling chocolate to satisfy my hunger - so that sort of rules out the point of existence for me with this bar. Despite it's smaller size these Stix bars still deliver the Cadbury Boost taste experience, I just honestly don't see little point in paying the same amount for 5.0g less chocolate.

Cadbury P.S.
Cadbury P.S.Kcal 240 Fat 13.7g Fat(sats) 9.8g Carbs 28.8g
'Layer of wafer and caramel flavoured cream, covered in Caramilk chocolate'
Origin: South Africa
I'm not one-hundred percent sure about the intended brand positioning of the P.S. but from what I have ascertained it is probably targeted predominantly at female consumers given the colour scheme and suggestive 'You light up my life' blurb featured on the wrapper. Although I was hardly overwhelmed by the aesthetic proposition, the smell of the bar did excite me more, and the sweet, dairy based white chocolate scents did raise my anticipation to an extent.
The taste was what I can only describe as polarising in that was very sugary, but still on the whole quite pleasant with undertones and hints of toffee and golden syrup present throughout. Given the sharp directness of the sugary natured outer chocolate, the wafer was very much needed, as the more savoury wheat flavours offered by the wafer that balanced out the sweetness of the coating.
Overall it wasn't one of the better chocolate bars I have ever reviewed from Cadbury, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was to find out that out that it has quite a few loyal fans. The Caramilk chocolate that coats it is very distinct in terms of taste, and I can see people that love really sweet chocolate like Caramac, White Mice etc would very much enjoy this bar. Personally speaking it wasn't a product well matched to my tastes, it was nice enough, but I wouldn't actively encourage you actively seek it out.

Cadbury Mr Big Original

Cadbury Mr Big OriginalKcal 300 Fat 14.0g Fat(sats) 7.0g Carbs 41.0g (per bar)
'Layered vanilla wafer, coated in caramel, peanuts and rice crisps, covered in a chocolate coating'
Origin: Canada
Getting bars from Canada certainly isn't the easiest of thing to do, but after a little endeavour I did manage to lay hands on one of these Mr Big bars thanks to a ChocolateMission reader who wished to remain anonymous. This Mr Big Original is one of the Cadbury bars I have been eyeing up for a while now, as I have always thought the prospect of a Lion bar equivalent with added peanuts and vanilla creme sounded like an attractive prospect.
The first thing that struck me when I layed hands on this bar was how it really did live up to it's name. The 60.0g bar was literally huge in size - it was a real pain to photograph getting the entire wrapper in to focus. In relation to size this was probably about the size of a Mars Duo we have here in the UK, though annoyingly this bar wasn't split in two prior to me doing the cross-section you see above. As sizable as the bar was in hand, when it came to the taste test I felt it let itself down somewhat. The outer coating of chocolate, nuts and caramel all seemed to lack the usual Cadbury charm with the chocolate especially notable for it's sweetness as opposed to Cadbury's usual differentiated creamy taste. Similarly the peanuts and caramel struggled to create much of an impression against the wafer and inner creme elements, which both themselves mustered only brown sugar noted wheaty flavour suggestions that you would get from any average wafer based option.
Overall I did feel a little letdown by the overall quality of this bar given the promise it had in concept. As I described above, none of the key five constituents really took hold of the taste to the extent I wished - the chocolate and peanuts most notably faded in to the background with the generic tasting wafer acting more as a flavour dampener rather than an enhancer. I can't deny the Mr Big is a hunger satisfying option thanks to it's size, but I wont mislead you all by saying it's the tastiest Cadbury option available.

Cadbury Cherry Ripe Cherry Roll
Cadbury Cherry Ripe Cherry RollKcal 242 Fat 13.2g Fat(sats) 10.3g Carbs 28.4g
'Cherries and coconut in Old Gold dark chocolate, sprinkled with coconut'
Origin: Australia
The Cadbury Cherry Ripe Cherry Roll was yet another new product launched in Australia earlier this year and has been doing the rounds in the Southern Hemisphere. Those of you who haven't ever seen the Cherry Ripe brand before want want to familiarise yourselves with my review of the original bar (See HERE), and also the Cherry Ripe Double Dipped which was another limited edition I tried in 2009 (See HERE). Essentially this Cherry Ripe Cherry Roll looked and sounded like the original bar, just with a few cosmetic changes.
Out of it's foil wrapper this bar was immediately more welcoming than I remember the original bar being. The shredded coconut on the side caused a heck of mess when handling, but it generated some a nice coconutty scents and gave the outer chocolate an additional crispness when first bitten in to. The outer chocolate was as expected not the greatest in terms of it's cocoa richness, but for the main part it was insignificant anyway as the inner assembly of cherry and coconut took the lionshare of the taste what with it establishing it's juicy red fruit and creamy nut experience.
Overall I really enjoyed this bar and felt that in many ways it was superior to the long standing original Cherry Ripe. That said if I were an Australian or New Zealander and this had been the biggest 'new launch' from Cadbury for the year I would probably had been disappointed with it given that it was essentially the normal Cherry Ripe with some minor improvements. Much the same as I have said about the other three bars today, this is more of a 'nice to have' bar rather than one I would say you need to go out there and look for.

Im pretty confident that I would be a fan of the cherry ripe if we were able to buy it here. From what I can tell from your reviews of all the diff CR bars they seem to have nice cherry fillings but crappy chocolate. I think I could deal with that lol. A good filling is what matters most the time.
The Mr Big looks like the sort of generic wafer you would get from Europe (poland etc) not in the states or canada. One thing I will say is that i don't think they have the lion bar so perhaps there is an opening for a chocolate like that over there.
Call me childish or whatever but I like the sound of the PS bar. I can see why you think it has been made for women though. The wrapper does look a little like it is for females. It sounds a bit like a white chocolate kit kat to me.
Any chance of you reviewing something British made anytime soon?
4 different chocolates ..... none British made!!! What use is that to me?
its a shame I most likely wont get the chance to ever have any of these, well not unless i pay through the nose for them. By the looks of your reviews they dont look like they are worth going crazy about trying to buy.
Cheers for giving us so many reviews jim. Lol they all took a while to read but I got there eventually.
What a pointless thing to do to the boost. The whole point of it is that it gives you a short burst of energy so you eat the whole thing in one. Making into two smaller bars doesn't make sense for its purpose.
4 in 1? Crikey I wasn't prepared for this :-) You should have put a warning out at the start, it took me a good ten minutes to read them all lol.
Hey hun this is fascinating post. I hadn't heard of most of these before I saw this today. Its interesting to see you haven't given any of them anything over an 8. Do you think they haven't been released here because for this reason i.e. they are a bit pants :-) Although they didn't score well it was still fascinating seeing them. I hope you have another review clearout soon all the pictures today are what I like to see.
Rxxx
Seeing that Boost thing today reminds me of a question I have been meaning to ask.
What is the difference between a boost and starbar? Is it just that the starbar has peanuts and thats it? Lol sorry for being random. It just doesn't seem worth having both the boost and the starbar taking up space on our shelves when we don't get bars that are well different to anything else like the wispa mint or even that cherry ripe one. It just seems a right waste having two that are so similar.
What made you decide to lump all the Cadbury products in one review. I feel sorry for your fans that don't like cadburys chocolate. They aren't going to like the post today very much lol.
p.s Did you write some of these reviews ages ago or something? The graphs are the old ones for some of them :-) they must have been done ages ago mate.
Where did you get that cherry ripe roll from? I can't find anyone selling in either the UK or abroad :S
I haven't tried the PS or Mr Big One but I'm familiar with the other two.
I think the Cherry ripe would do pretty well here in England cause there isn't anything else like it currently on sale from cadbury or any of the other companies. The only thing remotely like it is the jamesons ruffle bar but even that doesn't count because its not a bar I see around that much anymore. It does make you wonder why they don't just be done with it and at least give it a try over here.
The deal with those Stix sounds familiar doesn't it :-) Lol its the cadburys allure story take two. Less chocolate higher price.
Love the reviews mate. Thanks so much for giving us so many just on one day. The photos are all awesome at showing what they are all about.
Hey J
Cool reviews today. Im used to seeing your short reviews about biscuits and cakes but I've not seen you go to town and post 4 reviews of chocolate bars in a day. No one can be knocking you now for not having your eyes on the original Chocolate mission now.
How are you doing without our beloved footie mate? It feels like forever since liverpool last played. All the transfer speculation is interesting enough but it is getting a bit boring already. I just wish I knew who we were going to buy. Lol must be the same for you with Man U I should have though.
Cheers
N
I've no great desire to see any of these tbh with you.
Thats not a dig at your post though m8 I thought the photos + write ups were brill. If anything they just reassured me that I'm not missing out on anything lol.
The ratings may be crappy but at least you can rest easy knowing you have been thorough.
You should of put an object next to that Mr Big bar just to show people how big it really is. Its not until you see it in person until you realise that it does live up to its name lol Its huge!!!!!
No bits and bobs this week again???? This makes me sad :(
Cadburys are obviously using similar tatics to create fuss about new products in australia than they do here in the UK if that Boost Sticks is anything to go by.
The Aussies peeps must have been well annoyed to find out a boost was the same thing as a morro when they bought one of those Stix things. At least it isn't just us in England that get stitched up by them.
That P.s sounds like exactly the sort of chocolate that I would love. Lol I have such immature tastebuds I should really try and grow up. Im embarassed to admit it but I still love the occasional pick-a-mix with loads of white mice white chocolates.
Oh Jim you had all me all excited then as I thought all of these were being made for the uk :( Then I read the origins bit! Booooo!
On an unrelated noted I got one of those damn allure things today. You can probably tell by the way I call it a 'damn allure' thing that I wasn't all that impressed with it. I was just like a normal flake but with a bit of melted chocolate on the bottom boring boring boring if you ask me.
Any more cadburys superposts in the pipeline J? I well enjoyed this one today thank you
None of these ratings suggest we are missing out on anything here. The only one I feel would be worth a gander at is probably the Mr Big just cause I like the odd lion bar. It would be interesting to see which I prefer myself, though I do kinda already trust your judgement that it isn't as good.
Have you ever tried the Cadburys Sweet Marie? Its another one that they have in America and canada. Its not too much different from the Mr Big but it has peanuts in it.
I don't know if you think that could make it any better but it might be worth you having a look at if you get the opportunity.
You could have picked a better brand to bombard us with if you were going to do a single post with four bars in. I'm not liking Cadburys at the mo, at least I see you didn't give them any good scores lol.
All four of these sound decidely average. I wouldn't say it sounds like we are missing out on anything that much.
That Mr Big was the biggest disappointment I have ever had from a chocolate bar. I spent nearly £1.50 on one in cybercandy and it was so annoying just to find it was just an oversized version of a Lion bar. To be 100% honest I thought it wasn't even as good as a Lion.
Why have you called the Mr Big a 'Mr Big Original'?
I wasn't aware there was another type of Mr Big. I did a quick search on the internet and didn't find anything that suggested there has ever been anything else.
My local market in town used to have a south african food store so I was lucky enough to be able to buy bars like the Ps and the cherry ripe whenever I wanted. Unfortunately they for some reason stopped having a stall and got replaced by these crappy flower sellers grrrr. Ebay is the only option now to satisfy my cherry ripe cravings.
A 60 gram bar that is mostly wafer??? That must be huuuuuuuge.
Cadburys' cherry ripe is the most underrated bar they sell. Honestly if they made them here I would eat them all the time. Has it ever sold over here or has it always just been down under. I've always had to pay loads of money for them from the foriegn food shops.
I like some the wrapper designs going on here.
The Mr Big is a bit full but the Cherry Roll and Boost ones looks pretty vibrant and cool.
Whoever designed the PS wrapper needs their head checked. If you didn't know beforehand it isn't the easiest to recognise it as Cadbury. Its very passive aswell, its not what I would call eye catching or anything.
Those Boost Stix don't look like anything we haven't seen before ..... inevitabley that means they will be the next big release we have in this country then lol.
Anything boring they can possibly bring out for us Im sure they will do.
My local corner store used to get some of the popular south african cadburys chocolates in sometimes so I have tried the PS a few times. I never thought it was that special or anything but it was a nice change from anything we have here on sale. I can imagine that the white chocolate kit kat is a lot better than it though, now there is a bar I wouldn't mind seeing them bring back.
Its amazing how you get such different chocolate bars from the same company in different countries. you would have thought it was more cost effective to make them all in the same factory and ship them out.
Dx
Somewhat off-topic, but I'm really excited about this: Ritter Sport have a new bar for the Summer 2011 range, Amarena Cherry. The other two flavours in the range are the Stracciatella and the Peach & Passion Fruit Yogurt from last year. Any chance of a review? I'll start looking for it in stores in the next few days - I've seen the summer range, but I just assumed it was the same as last year. Ritter Sport also have a new 40% cocoa milk bar.
Not as exciting, but Milka also have a few new products: a hot chocolate, a Caramel Lila Pause, a bag of Lila Stars Snax.
On:
Boost Stix: I love the concept! Most similar products I know are made with either hazelnut or strawberry fillings... I'm sick and tired of those. This format of two thinner "stix" also seems more appealing to me compared to the Cadbury Boost.
P.S.: Caramel cream in a wafer sounds very nice to me. Again, it's something we don't get to try often.
Mr Big: First picture looks anything but tempting - horrible wrapper! And I don't like peanuts, so it really wouldn't be my thing.
Cherry Ripe Cherry Roll: What's the point of any other Cherry Ripe when there's the Double Dipped?
Thanks for the whopper superpost today dude - a real treat :). I think the Cherry Ripe sounds lovely - wish we could get them here as I reckon they'd be a hit due to their uniqueness. Speaking of Australian goodies, have you ever reviewed the Tim Tam range Jim & if not, pretty please will you? :) x
Hi All
Apologies but I'm in a right old rush this evening. Trying to get out the office in a hurry.
Thanks for all the nice words about the reviews. Apologies to those of you who aren't keen on Cadbury chocolate, its swings and round abouts, I can't cater for everyone, every single day sorry.
Be sure to keep the feedback coming on these its always interesting hearing all your thoughts about them.
ANON - The last four reviews running have been chocolates from the UK :D is this a joke?
DUNCAN - This post is a bit of a novel isn't it :D Was it too long you think? More or less?
HARRY - Spot on! The Starbar has peanuts and rice cereal. The Boost has biscuit pieces instead of those two.
PATRICK - I thought it would be cool to have a day of Cadbury. Some people agree some don't by the looks of the comments :D
DAVID - Indeed I did! It must have been over a year ago now I guess.
EOIN - I got sent that by one of my suppliers. I can't remember whom to be honest.
NIGEL - Life is a little dull without the footie isn't it. I see we swiped Mr Phil Jones from under your noses today :D :D Haha take that Liverpool!
EMMA - This is kinda a bits n bobs! I will make sure I do a random product one next week for you guys. A biscuit one maybe :D
MO - Not for the minute. This was most of what I have in the backlog Cadbury wise.
PAUL - I've got a Sweet Marie sat in my chocolate stash. One day I will get around to reviewing it.
HUNTER - I called it that because that is what was on the wrapper. I don't think there are any other flavours out at the moment. Probably why your search didn't find any haha :D
NOTW - It was rather big yes.
ANA - You might want to look at the website on Friday :D I think you will be pleasantly surprised by what you see. I don't have those Milka bars in my posession yet but I'm sure they will turn up at some point. I just need to find someone to send me them :D
ROXY - That is another in the backlog! I will make sure I integrate into an upcoming bits n bobs for you.
Thanks for the kind words again everyone. Its wonderful that you guys are so dedicated, most of you never fail to comment I really appreciate it.
JIM
That cadbury ps review adds further evidence to my case that we need someone else to review white chocolate for you :) You just dont appreciate it enough to give sensible scores do you.
Being realistic I doubt I will ever get to try any of these but its still cool seeing what you made of them.
If you had to recommend just one of them which would it be? I think the most unique one has to be the Cherry Roll. The others either remind me of other bars out already (some of which we can buy lol).
Cripes u must have a bloody big back log of reviews if you need to post 4 in one day.
I too think the stix idea is a good one for the Boost. My only gripe with the boost normally is that it is a little big for my liking. Its one of those bars you do have to eat in one go normally because it would be messy to eat half and the leave the other. If it came in to two sensibly sized parts I think that would help matters.
Its all well and good you showing us these things but what is the point when we can't buy them? Just stick to the UK chocolates please.
Eye spy and old school chocolate mission chart amongst all of them :-) Lol you must have written that review years ago. You can't even remember the graphs ever being like that and I started reading you about a year ago now.
What a right old mix you treated yourself to here mate. No can ever say you don't try a wide range of different chocolate bars. You put my repetoire of chocolates to shame. I wouldn't of thought I bought many more than four different chocolate bars a year let alone a single day. Great reviews as ever.
Jim (or anyone else reading!!) do you know of a website that sells any of these that don't charge an arm and a leg for them.
I see that cybercandy have the boost one and Ps but they are charging crazy amounts. They proper nail everyone on postage aswell.
Mega MEGA MEGA wants on that cherry roll chocolate.
One of my friends who was originally from south africa brought a big bag of mini cherry ripes back when she visited home and I was lucky enough to get a few off her. I absolutely loved them. I so wish they could be bought in this country. I think the cherry ripe would be a really common purchase if I could buy them myself.
Thank you so much for all the wicked reviews today Jim. You've spoilt us this week with HC and a cadbury super post. Whatever could you have in store for us friday? The only thing that could make this even better is a competition ;) hint hint.
Its amazing you try so many chocolates from such bizarre locations. I always just thought Cadbury was a british brand. I thought they just made chocolates for us brits. How wrong was I :P
I'm so envious of you and how you get to try all these amazing looking chocolates from all over the place.
You should do that chocolate map thing you said you were going to do. I think it would be impressive to see how you have tried chocolates from all four corners of the globe. I would half expect it to look well impressive if you just did it for Cadbury. You seemed to have tried their stuff from all over the place.
Unfortunately I think some of these were limited editions at the time you must have written about them so I think ones like the Boost Stix and Cadbury Rolls aren't available anymore :( It's a damn shame you know, you sold me on the cherry roll even though you didn't rate it amazingly. It just sounded like one that was worth a try if you liked that sort of thing. Cadbury do nowt with either coconut or cherry at the moment here in the UK.
@Sakura You are spot on. The Mr Big looks like a Lion bar thats been on steroids lol.
The nicest looking one out of all of these is probably the Boost Stix for me. I know its essentially just a boost in a smaller size but I think thats a perfectly sensible thing to do. I like Boosts but by the time I get to the end of one they always make me feel a little sickly.
Well that cherry bar sounds amazing. Its sad to think we can't even get the normal one let alone this special edition one. It's exactly the sort of bar they could introduce to provide something totally new for the UK but that isn't something they appear to be interested in doing.
Nope instead we have to make do with things like the flake allure. Lol I wont get started on that one again.
I've always thought they should do that with the boost bar. I find it too much to have all in one go.
Splitting it into smaller fingers like that would make it so much better. Lets hope they do that for us in the future sometime. The Aussies are obviously a step ahead of us lot lol.
Out of interest Jim how did you get all these? Did you have one single supplier that got you all of them or did you have to shop around the place to get them all.
I've done a search for the cherry ripe roll but I aint having much luck. Its a right shame becuase out of all of them its the one that looks like it might be worth trying.
If you were going to review four chocs in the one day you could have at least included one that was half good lol.
I'm surprised to hear you didn't think much of the Mr Big. Its always been one of the bars I have contemplated getting when I have been looking around in cybercandy. Im glad I have never wasted my money now.
That was fun to read another bits & bobs style international Cadbury chocolate bar review. I've never had a cherry chocolate bar and would love to try one (thanks, Ana, for posting that Ritter link!). Ditto Caramilk, though the PS sounds sickly sweet I'd be curious to experiment. That cheesy wrapper is cute too though it seems more suited for gifts than buying it on your own, so I'm guessing girls may be recipients as often as purchasers. It's also refreshing to see Cadbury in other colors than the usual purple, gold & brown, even if their logos lose out a bit.
They just introduced a new milk chocolate version of the Cadbury PS now Jim.
You can see it on the cadburys website if you access the african one. You might like it more if it had dairy milk and not white chocolate huh!
Lol I used to have Boost bars all the time but I can't of had one for a good year I don't think.
Thank for reminding me it still exists Jim lol. I think Im going to grab one on the way home now. Its about time I reacquainted myself with one of my all time favourites.
ANON - It would be very boring if I just reviewed British chocolates. My readership extends beyond the UK so its best I review a wide range of chocolates.
BRIAN - I'm afraid I don't chap. You might want to try Cybercandy but they are very expensive.
WENDY - Check the site tomorrow and you will get a nice surprise.
JACK - I bought a few myself from a shop in London. I also got given a few of them by a friend who visited Australia last year.
THEA - The branding is shocking on the PS isn't it! From a topdown view you can't even see the Cadbury logo! If you think about it that is how they would look a store shelf aswell. That isn't a good thing for Cadbury! It hardly makes use of their brand power.
Thanks for the comments everyone.
JIM
Found a PS in a South African shop and you will be happy to know they have fixed the Cadbury branding, apparently there are several P.S. versions and even one 'S.M.S.' and the one I got looked just like this http://www.candyaisle.com/candy/items/448 but with the message 'i love you'.
I really liked the white Caramilk chocolate, even though it was so sweet I had to eat it over several sittings. I would buy this again. Not that I will have the chance..
