August 20th: '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' - Edition 84 - Cadbury Twirl Mini Bites + Kit Kat Mini Pop Chocs

SITE UPDATE

Hi All,

After last weeks uproar when I said I was stopping the weekend comments you will be glad to hear that I have reconsidered my decision. Please feel free to throw in your two pennies worth on the review today, I've even made SOTW extra special today by giving you all a heads-up on not one, but two, yes TWO of the snacks that have made it down my gob this week.

The week may have died off in terms of the high scores with the Prestat bars and most of 'Bits & Bobs' on Wednesday and Friday, but lets not forget how brilliantly Hotel Chocolat kicked off proceedings with their Hotel Chocolat Le Grand Crunch offering (See HERE).

There's not much else to report ChocolateMission side, but please be sure to check out the news page (See HERE) as there have been several interesting product announcements this week

I hope you all have great weekends. Bring on the sunshine!

JIM

SNACK OF THE WEEK ..... a new part of '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' which will feature any manner of snacking product I have been products munching on in the week

The two products taking centre stage in my 'Snack of the Week' are two of the latest market releases from our UK confectionery behemoths Cadbury & Nestle. Due to these 'New products' being so alike their original concepts I didn't it necessary to attribute them with scores. I thought you guys might just appreciate some photos of what they are and the details on where I got them. You can see my original Cadbury Twirl review (HERE) and my Kit Kat Pop Choc review (HERE)

Cadbury Twirl Bites
Kcal 220 Fat 12.5g Fat(sats) 7.7g Carbs 23.1g (per 1/4 bag)

First up we have these Cadbury Twirl Bites. After hearing the their trade announcement (See HERE) last month I found these on sale in my local Co-Op on a BOGOF offer for £2.09. These went down terrifically well with all parties that I dished them out to at work. Suffice to say both packets were polished off in double quick time - warning they are very, very moreish!

Kit Kat Pop Choc Mini Bag
Kcal 109 Fat 6.3g Carbs 11.4gg (per 9 pieces)
Another snack that has been doing the rounds in our office these week are the new Kit Kat Pop Choc Mini bags. Indeed Nestle have followed up the original large sized pouches with these conveniently sized 40.0g packs. The person who bought these in somehow managed to acquire what must have been 10+ bags, but like the Twirl Mini Bites above the office locust soon made mincemeat of them :D

You know I'm always keen to hear what you guys are recommending/getting your lips around this week. Drop me a line I'm interested to hear from you.

Yay! Thank you for letting us comment Jim. I would hav be bursting to tell you that I also loved the Twirl MBs.
I hadn't had a Twirl for agesssssssssssssssss. But these MBs reminded me how nice they are.

Have a good weekend Jimmy. The reviews this week were some of the best man.

Nick said...

Its about time they showed the Twirl some attention. They always advertise bars like the crunchie and the wispa and they just forget all about the poor old Twirl. It's good to see Cadburys showing it some love for once.

Stu said...

Does anyone know if Twirls are made with Dairy milk or is normal cadbury chocolate?

Lucy said...

The only reason I would buy a twil instead of a flake is when I want something that is easier to eat.
Flakes are better but I do concede they can be well inconvenient and mucky if you get a crumbly one.

Whats upcoming this week Jim dude? Am I going to be getting my hotel Chocolate fix this week or not?

Hey J

Good to see you letting us post again. When would be able to talk about the weekend footie eh ;)
You must be gutted you boys aren't playing until Monday night. I hate it when we are playing MNF, it just seems to take ages before you finally get around to seeing your team play. Anyway, my prediction is Liverpool 2 Arsenal 1 and Man U 2 Spurs 1. I also think Sunderland will beat Newcastle and Everton to beat QPR, Chelsea to beat West Brom. The rest don't matter to me lol.

Cheers
N

Jimbo you need to start giving us a clue what size these mini bites things you review are. Didn't someone the other day suggest you use a coin to show their relative size. I don't mean to hassle you but it's always well hard to determine how big or small the things in your photos are.

Lauren said...

Why do all these companies release things like Buttons, Nibbles, Clusters and Pop Chocs in the big bags first. It's so annoying having to wait until the mini bags come along. If they just realeased at the same time they would sell so much more.

Kev said...

In my local £1 store they sell Lion bar pop choc. They are even nicer than the Kit kat ones.

Respect for letting us post comments Jim. I love reading them as much as your reviews. Its always gd to get 2nd opinions from everyone. We need our platform for free speech lol.

Jim did Cadburys send you them or were they shop bought?
If the last one where abouts did you buy them?

Did Prestat get back to you about your review yesterday J? I so want to know what they had to say for themselves.

Hey Hun. Good choice bringing comments back. I didn't want to see people moaning about it again on Monday. It cluttered up the HC review on Monday with peoples still talking about what you reviewed on the previous two days. Have we got hotel chooclat on Monday btw? You forgot to tell us all what it is upcoming this week.

I still think you need an assistant to help you upkeep your site Jim. You still need to update that leaderboard of yours you know ;)

Adam said...

You seen this one yet Jim?
http://www.fdin.org.uk/2011/08/green-black%E2%80%99s-shows-support-for-breast-cancer-with-logo-bar/
It's not been in your news feed yet. Lol it's about time they did something new for Green & Blacks. It's been a while.

Duncan said...

God I feel sorry for you Jim. I know you only stopped comments because you didn't want it taking up your weekend sorting all of them.
You are too kind to us you know. I feel awfully guilty now. It offers you any comfort people only want to comment because they like your site and want to be a part of it. You should feel very proud of that matey.

Ed said...

Whats next? Crunchie mini bites? Wispa mini bites? Double Decker mini bits?
Lol I joke but in all likelyhood they will all happen some time wont they.

Joel said...

Are you going to update the news page? You haven't done it since Tuesday m8.

Kels said...

I don't have anything to say but I'm going to post a comment because I CAN lol.
Nah only j/k I will at least say have a nice weekend Jim.

Emma said...

God I haven't had a twirl in ages. Well I have, it was just called a flake allure lol. I couldn't believe how similar they were I first had one. Do you not think they just need one?

Alicia said...

I don't know why I torture myself with this site. I always leave ten times hungrier than I left when I first logged on.

You need to be banned from taking photos of chocs Jim. It's the only way I'm going to keep my waistline down for my wedding coming up.

Andrew said...

Clicking on that HC banner just put me right through to their sale. Nice one fella, I wouldn't have clocked that otherwise.

Colin said...

Jim I know you are a cricket man.

We are annhilating India aren't we lol It was so one sided on Friday it wasn't even funny. I live locally to the oval but I couldn't get tickets unfortunately. You go quite a bit to the test matches don't you?

Tom said...

Why aren't you having a pop at cadbury and nestle for being unimaginative (no pun intended). I mean look at both of these. These are just smaller versions of chocolates that have been around for gooness knows how long.

Am I the only person that finds this all insanely boring? It's about time that these people started making truley new chocs.

Anonymous said...

Why did you score the twirl bits or pop chocs? Didn't you eat them or something?

Rodge said...

I'll be buying some of those twirls as soon as I see them. I'm such a sucker for new things lol.

Peter said...

This is random but has anyone noticed how badly the new cadburys bliss bars are doing? I always see them on like half price in all of the shops.
The only reason they would do that is if they need to start selling more.
Talking of those Bliss bars I did buy another one because it was so cheap. This time I bought the toffee flavoured one and I did think it was nice than just the plain bar. I would buy it again buy it again but not at full whack. Sorry for going off topic so much.

Yasmine said...

Mmmmm nice pics on the reviews jim. Do you think they will ever try making different flavoured Twirls? I think a Twirl with caramel running through the mid would just be sweet as.

They could do loads of different twirls if they wanted. Orange, mint, white chocolate. Its one of those ones that they could do any number of things with if they wanted to.

Anonymous said...

When is the next comp coming? Feels like ages since you last did one. You used to do them nearly every week.

The Magic Pie said...

Ahhhh! I didn't know your blog!!! it's so "sweet" I need some chocolate just now!
Have a nice weekend

Thea said...

Thanks, Jim, for the double review & letting us comment, back by popular demand eh? :) Is it less simple to filter/approve the comments on weekends? I often like to save JCM to read at leisure over the weekend and comment on older reviews of chocolates I've since tried, but if so I'll save those comments & post during the week.

Twirl bites is a great idea, since they're super sweet it'll (hopefully) be easier to eat in smaller doses. Funny I thought the Kit Kat ones had already made a JCM appearance, I'm getting confused with all these bite sizes coming out lol. They don't appeal nearly as much, half the fun is breaking that bar apart.

@Colin the less said about the cricket the better...(India supporter speaking ;)

Alan said...

Ive not seen the Twirl mini bites yet but they look very cool :) Its been avery long time since they did anything new with it, if ever actually apart from update the wrapper lol

Has anyone seen the new Mars bar? Its Triple Choc! I found it in my corner shop, and its from the UK not a foreign import (like Polish etc). Are they out in the main shops or anything yet, Ive not seen them atall. Its a Limited Edition though.

Great to see you allowing people to msg you again J. I thought it was a big mistake stopping ppl do that last week. I think its what most the people who look at your site like about it.

Anonymous said...

I might get flamed for saying this but does anyone else think Kraft have done some good stuff since taking over cadburys? We never used to get half as much new stuff from them as we do now. I think it's great.

Carl said...

@Nigel man u better be beating spurs this weekend. It will be well funny if they are bottom of the table. lol I will be able to take the piss out of my brother big time.

Gamer360 said...

The old school Kit Kat Kubes were ten times better than the Pop chocs are. On the pop chocs the choc is just too thin.

Hi All,

Seems as if the comments feature coming back has pleased rather a lot of you. Thats good to see.

STU - I think it's made with their secondary chocolate though i'm not 100% confident on that.

IAN - Yes there is a HC monday in the plan.

NIGEL - Not bad on your prediction chap. I hope you aren't wrong about the United score tomorrow. I would be more than happy with that this early in the season.

LAUREN - They release them in the big bags first so they can get you paying more to try the 'new' product. It makes perfect sense commercially.

ANON - I say all that in the review.

GOLDEN - Not heard a thing from Prestat. I haven't tried contacting them mind you.

RACHEL - See above re Hotel Chocolat.

ADAM - Thanks I added that to the news page just now.

JOEL - See above

COLIN - I do try but like you find it can be a struggle to get the tickets.

TOM - There's been plenty of other new products out from both of those companies this year. These are more of a bonus I think.

PETER - They are still very new. Give them a chance.

YASMINE - They could do but it's one of the bars that don't seem to be that keen on doing much with it. It's something they could consider.

THEA - I thought you would be approving the return of the comments :D Your abuse on Twitter was what broke the camels back. I wont mention the cricket.

ALAN - That new Mars sounds intriguing. I hadn't seen, nor heard anything about it to be honest with you. It sounds like it has potential.

Thanks everyone. I hope to hear from you all next week for some more chocolate shenanigans :D

JIM
