Hi All,
From my viewpoint it's been another great week for the site with some interesting feedback once again from you all on the reviews. The Hotel Chocolat Coffee Truffles Monday divided opinion (and brought some criticism on myself!), whilst the Lindt Lindor Milk bar attracted some interesting discussion on the bar vs truffle chocolate debate. The new recipe 3 Musketeers bar was a little less relevant for UK readers, though you guys should be aware these things are never as far out of your reach as you might think (nudge towards AmericanSoda).
This week has been yet another hectic on for me at the day job though that hasn't stopped me being able to write up Snack of the Week which you can see below. The Chocolate News has also been updated so please be sure to get your eyes across the breaking news this week (and last haha I know I was late putting it up Sunday!).
Next week I haven't quite worked out the review laydown, though I'm sure there will be something from Hotel Chocolat, a 'Bits n Bobs' and maybe, just maybe, something special from one of the big cheese chocolate bar makers (watch this space).
Have great long weekends folks. Enjoy the bank holiday Monday.

SNACK OF THE WEEK ..... a new part of '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' which will feature any manner of snacking product I have been products munching on in the week

Kellogg's Pop Tarts Ice Cream Shoppe Vanilla Milkshake
Kcal 190 Fat 5.0g Fat(sats) 2.0g Carbs 34.0g
As you will have likely have guessed from my 3 Musketeers redux review yesterday, American Soda have been at it again, and they spoilt me with yet another big box full of American snacks and sweets. The chaps (& chapesses) at www.AmericanSoda.co.uk seem to happy to see me working my way the Kellogg's US Pop Tart range. Considering we only get the two variants here in the UK (Chocolate & Strawberry), it never ceases to amaze me quite how many flavours they have in America. This week has seen me trialing the Vanilla Milkshake variety.
Before anyone posts a comments asking a) What an Ice Cream Shoppe is? or b) Why they spell 'Shoppe' like they do? Please save it as I'm none the wiser myself. Described as 'Creamy vanilla milkshake-flavored filling inside a frosted, rainbow sprinkle-covered crust' the packaging bodly stated these were a 'A good source of calcium'! Hmmm milk anyone!? Out the packet these looked reasonably appetising, though once toasted they didn't radiate the usual amount of appetising scents that are normally a given with Pop Tarts. Unfortunately this was a little indicative of the taste, which in parallel offered very little in terms of the expected vanilla or cream flavours. After a little experimentation I found that these were better consumed chilled from the fridge, as the pastry portion established a stronger biscuity taste amongst the sugar sweet dominant frosting. Personally I wouldn't recommend this flavour - It's lucky there are another twenty or so to choose from :D

I'm intrigued to see what this 'bar from a big cheese chocolate maker means' :)
I would think its a review of the mars bar triple chocolate yes?
Pop Tarts are frigging disgusting man. Anyone who thinks they are edible needs to go get their head checked out. The pastry tastes like cardboard and the filling are normally gruesome.
Thank heavens I saw this review, that vanilla flavour is one I have always thought I would try at some point. A few of the other flavours managed to persuade not to get them but that was more because I fancied them more than (plus a few of them were limited edition so I had to buy them quick). Thanks for the warning Jim. I will avoid these now.
We still get a post even though its a uk bank holiday right? Thats gonna suck major balls if you don't post one monday. It will just make another worthless holiday all the more boring.
Jim please can you consider this a request for the Thorntons Bakewell Tart please. I'm sure you are aware of it but a review asap would be gr8 thank you.
Its so refreshing seeing a blogger that is allowed to say what he wants about freebies. On other website its so obvious that the person writing the blog has an active interest of selling what they review so they make money. I really respect the way you take an impartial review and just tell it like it is.
You need to just get around to trying the cookies and creame pt. I haven't tried many but I think they are the best.
I would like American Soda a lot more if they showed us some love and gave us a competition ;) One just open to Chocolate mission people would be the best, I know they do random ones on their twitter but they must be entered by so many random people.
Hey J
What your predictions for the football this weekend? I think Man U will beat Arsenal 3-0, im very confident on that. I think Liverpool should beat bolton at home but people forget how well owen coyles got them in to shape now. Hmm I think we should win but I wouldn't be all that surprised (or annoyed) if bolton managed to grab a draw. One thing you have to admit even as a manc is how hood suarez is don't you!! What a signing, the guy is. He was well expensive but hes been worth every penny so far.
I've said this before but pop tarts aren't really my thing. I'm lucky if I even get to eat breakfast these days. I'm normally in such a rush
Cheers

I liked the reviews this week but I want to see a bits and bobs next week please.
How about a special bank holiday weekend comp Jimbo.
Wonderful reviews again this week hun. You never fail to brighten up my dreary days spent staring at this awful screen. Big loves and have a nice few days off.
Rxxx
Are you going to review the new mars bar Jim? Please say you are, I saw them yesterday but I was so pushed for time I didn't have a chance to buy one. I was so annoyed because later on I went back to the same shop and they had sold out. If thats any indication of how well they are selling thats kinda impressive.
Wispa Gold back permanently!????? Who what where when?
Sweet review Jimbobins. I don't understand why kelloggs don't push pop tarts harder here. I think the flavours we do have are boring. Chocolate and Strawberry are cool but lets face it they don't sound half as xciting as vanilla mikshake or wild grape don't you think.
I'm going to have to seriosuly ban myself from this blog soon. You do me no favours trying to fit in to this wedding dress of mine.
A pack of poptarts at this time would probably seeing me sucking in the air.
Could the product placement be any more obvious today? 2 days in a row you've plugged american soda. We get the point.
Its the big game Sunday Jim. I would say good luck but it would be one hundred percent disingenuous. Because of that I will just thank you for the posts this week and be on my merry way :) Lol don't expect a post from me monday if we get ripped to shreds.
Dear Kelloggs
If you are reading this please make more flavours of pop tarts for us poor souls in the united kingdom.
Regards
Clare

......why do I have the feeling my efforts are in vain ;)
I know they sound boring but the choc chip pop tarts are very good. So are the cherry ones if you can find them.
Ooooh yummy i've always fancied trying these. I don't suppose you have any left over for lil ol me do you Jim ;0
If you are buying american pop tarts theres only one flavour you need and its the apple strudel. I suppose it wont be to everyones taste but if you like apple pie these are like the mcdonalds ones.
I made the mistake of buying these like a year ago. It doesn't sound like they have made any efforts to make them any better because I remember them being just as crap. The most annoying thing I found with them was that they didn't taste of vanilla at all. For something called vanilla milkshake it was most disappointing.
That big cheese chocolate maker could be anyone. Thorntons, Nestle, Mars. Way to keep us guessing you b***** ;) Just joking. Big loves choccie dude.
Last time I'm saying this, but Cheetos Jim! Cheetos!!!
Phew. This has helped me out a lot. This was one of the few flavours I couldn't decide on whether to buy or not. I think its going to be unfrosted cinammon all the way now.
I want to try out buying from American soda but I need to go sort out a way of paying. It wasn't accepting my bank card last time I tried, do they take paypal now?
If American chocolates weren't so expensive I can think of a load of them I would probably frequent. For starters the Oh Henry bar would be one I would buy all the time. We don't get anything like that whatsoever in England. For a country so heavily associated with fudge it does make my brain hurt trying to think why we don't have any fudge chocolate bar apart from the cadburys 1.
You have any plans this weekend Jim? I keep sounding like I'm your stalker but you should say more about what you do outside of chocolate reviewing. Has anyone from this site ever met you? I can't imagine what you would be like as a person.
Best chocolate review site out there. Simple as you like.
Colour me interested in the review monday. I think you are talking about the mars three chocolate but it could anything knowing you Jim ;) You do like to tease us don't you.
Ive never been a great fan of Pop Tarts, we bought them once or twice when I was a kid but I think when they were withdrawn over them burning people and causing fires it kinda killed the appeal off for alot of people, at least of my generation in their late 20's lol
I think the 'shoppe' part is trying to aim for the 'old fashioned sweet shoppe of olde' type of thing. It doesnt really work though does it! It seems rather a pointless tag really.
Oooh can't wait for Monday's review :)
These poptarts puzzle me..they're called Ice Cream Shoppe yet the flavour is vanilla milkshake? Shouldn't it be vanilla ice cream?
Infinite amounts of win for the Wispa Gold returning :D Best news I've heard all year.
I had the Bakewell Tart Thornton's block last week so I'm looking forward to hearing what you thought of it. Gonna pick up some Triple Choc Mars bars today as well, I know the Co-op have them.
I can explain the ice cream shoppe thing :)
The ice cream shoppe line for poptarts is just a bunch of flavors supposed to represent old-fashioned American ice cream stores (shoppes, if you will).
I'm to young to ever have been to a real one, but there are throwback imitations of Ice cream shoppes that still do malts and egg creams.
Also? Try these frozen. They're not very good because of the almost liquid-y insides when at room temp, but they improve when you freeze them. And in general, I'd say the ice cream pop tart versions aren't really worth trying...
I love your pop tart reviews. You should keep reviewing all the flavours as a side project imo.
You just made my weekend! The Wispa Gold coming back is the best news EVER!!!!!!!!
With something like Pop Tarts you are always going to come across a flavour that isn't as good as the others. I just hope the brown sugar frosted cinnamon I have on order are going to be as good as I hope. It was a toss up between them and the Smores and I went for them. Fingers crossed for me Jim.
Oh and I forgot to say its your fault entirely if they are crummy because I went on your recommendation of them lol.
You should rename this snack of the week thing to 'American product of the week' lol How about trying some UK crisps or something. Do you not like savoury foods.
HI All.
Thanks for the comments and messages this weekend. I hope you have had brilliant bank holidays. I certainly have that's for sure.
Apologies for not responding to some of your comments earlier but I like to leave the site to itself over the weekend. The volume of people reading nowadays is incredible, it's nigh on impossible to keep up with it all.
Saying that I continue to urge you to use the comment function, not only is it great hearing from you guys but this site is increasingly being used by these companies to look at your feedback on their products so if you have an opinion be sure to leave it.
Since posting this 7DaysofCR I have made a lot of changes to the reviews being posted this week so ignore what I said in the post. All I will say is that it's a week full of new products. I hope you guys appreciate me getting the reviews up as soon as possible so you can get an idea of what they are like before investing you hard earned cash.
Right I'm off to soak in the last of my bank holiday weekend. Enjoy the rest of your own loyal readers :D
JIM
I don't think even JCM could ever induce me to try Pop Tarts again :D plus ahem this snack isn't even a chocolate one...
