September 17th: '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' - Edition 87 - Kellogg's Pop Tarts Frosted Blueberry

SITE UPDATE

Hi All,

Another hectic week has passed by on ChocolateMission - we've had Hotel Chocolat going bananas, Ritter Sport driving people nuts with head scratching brain ticklers and finally GU finishing us all off with some tasty looking cakey treats. If you don't have a clue what I'm talking about check out the links to the reviews below ...

Hotel Chocolat Go Bananas - See HERE
Ritter Sport Noisette - See HERE
GU Anytime Chocolate Hazelnut Slice - See HERE

Hopefully you guys will have all clocked the competition going down in the Ritter Sport Noisette review ... answer me this folks ... why do the Germans use Hazelnuts so often in their chocolates? I'm accepting all answers in the comments section! We've had some brilliant answers thus far please keep them coming in.

Apologies if the site is feeling a little random at the moment in regards to my own personal responses and updating of news pages/comments etc. You might be able to tell there is a lot going on behind the scenes at the moment :D Hopefully I can fill all you guys in at a later date.

Anyway ... I'm sure you are all way more interested in what's due up next week. To be 100.0% honest with you guys I don't have a clue :D One thing you can garuntee is a Bits & Bobs post, but the other two days I will play by ear - there are so many new products flying in my way at the moment I need to get my house in order.

JIM

SNACK OF THE WEEK ..... a new part of '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' which will feature any manner of snacking product I have been products munching on in the weekKellogg's Pop Tarts Frosted Blueberry
Kcal 200 Fat 5.0g Fat(sats) 1.5g (Per Pastry)

I've been opening several of my 'Snack of the Week' reviews recently with the line 'replacing my usual Bran Flakes cereal, this week I've been trying ...', but American Soda's mission to make me work through their entire collection of Pop Tarts and American cereals has meant I haven't touched my so called breakfast norm for weeks now. Indeed this week it was the turn of yet another Pop Tart flavour from the States - the Frosted Blueberry variant. From what I'm aware this Blueberry flavour is one of the oldest in Pop Tarts range. The guys from American Soda sent over a standard 8 count box - two of which I gave to a work colleague (who just so happens to be a Pop Tart enthusiast) for a second opinion.

I like pastry and I like blueberries, but boy I wasn't looking forward to these. My memories of trying the Kellogg's Strawberry Pop Tarts we get here in the UK were still fresh in my mind and that must have been over ten years ago. I remembered those being so throat scorchingly sugary sweet that I binned them after only a few bites - tried once and never again. Suffice to say fruit flavoured Pop Tarts haven't been high on the agenda since, however these Blueberry Frosted have gone some way to changing my mind. The combined brown sugar noted pastry and sweet, sticky jam filling taste still rendered the taste on the sweet side of things, though that unsettling sickly feeling that some Pop Tarts create never came to fruition. In both a chilled and toasted state I was impressed by the realness of the Blueberry fruit flavours, and I easily consumed two each sitting when washed down with a highly complimentary glass of chilled milk. For a product I was half dreading ('dreading' sounds OTT for a Pop Tart taste review doesn't it :D haha) I'm willing to eat my words on these. I enjoyed them and would have them again - now I wasn't expecting to say that.

7.7 out of 10

Blueberry pop tarts easily get a the very least an 8 in my book.

I hate most of the 'chocolate' but the fruity ones I like much better.

Im not sure what you mean saying your not responding to comments etc. I haven't noticed you doing anything different on the site at all :S Whats have you changed Jim? To me its just the same as usual. Hotel Chocolat posted on Mondays lol and then some wednesday and friday reviews. Its been like that for ages.

Blueberries are so nice but they are awfully expensive. They are one of my fave fruits but I don't buy them that often for that very reason.

Craig said...

You know blueberrys are a superfood right? Well does that mean these pop tarts are a superfood then?

Lol Pop Tarts are blantantly something we all need to be consuming on mass.

I wish a company like a/s would be seeing me going through all of the pop tart flavours. Im so bored of the two we have here. Most the time I can't even get hold of the strawbeery ones.

Andy said...

Were you watching the cricket last night jim?

I cant believe the guys chased down 300+. Man India suck ass.

Louise said...

Are there any more ritter reviews coming up Jim or have you run out of new flavours to do? I was away the week before and hadn't seen your one of the one with puffed what in. It looks lush.

Just so you know I spent nearly 20 mins trying to find the reason for the hazelnut and german chocolate thng and I didn't get to a better answer than the one I said before. Lol reading reports on nuts is interesting for a while but it soon gets dull. I still think they use hazelnuts all the time the time just because they are the easiest for them to lay hands on. Its no more complicated than that.

Did you do what I said and ask for the cheetos? You normally make good of your readers wants so im expecting something soon at least ;)

Unless ive missed something you gave been posting responses to comments havent you? I think you are doing yourself a disservice here, every thing is going fine

Hey J

Only me again lol. Whats your feelings about the big Chelski game them? I don't think anyone is stupid enough to bet against man u now. Lol you would have to be a brave brave dude to put a bet on someone beating them at the moment. Im not so sure about Pool at Spuds though its going to be a good game I should think. Someone tells me there is also a rugby game happening this weekend ;) whatever

Big fan of your reviews this week btw. That banana choc from HC is one I will defo be buying my sister next time I need to buy her a pressie. I haven't given my response to the ritter thing yet but its on the way dont you worry.

Cheers

Mmmmmm I want some pop tarts now.

I will have to settle for some tea + oatmeal though.:( At least I have some compote to put in there.

Golden_Touch said...

To me most pop tarts just taste the same. I think if you lived in a place where they weren't as expensive to buy they could be a cool thing to try every now and then, but when you have to pay the best part of a fiver to try a single flavour then you can feel really cheated when you realise the cookie dough tastes exactly the same as muffin flavour etc etc. Meh thats my two pennies worth on them.

Did you get any Lucky Charms sent through Jimbob? If you've not tried them b4 ur in for a heck of a treat :)

How come you never review milka anymore? I thought you liked their chocolate dude?

Now this is new

I got to get one of them for my friend Lisa. She used to live in america for 15 yrs and she is always talking about how she misses real smores. I didnt even know what a smore was until I met here.

So much for the people saying the fruity pop tarts were tons better than the other ones. I

f your reviews anything to judge by that wouldn't appear to be correct would it!!! Its all just opinion isn't it

Grrrrrr. I look at that damn american soda site everyday and they stil managed to sneak their lot of ding dong cakes through me without seeing them. Ive heard great things about them, im desperate to try them.

Terry said...

Gr8 reviews mate. Have a nice weeknd + gd luck to Man U.

Hugo said...

Pop tarts are perfect for snack of the week. Unless they are part of a bandb/snotw I wouldn't want to see them reviewed but done as part of them they are a nice side project I think.

Chris said...

How do you rate the chances of Arsenal today Jim? We are away at blackburn btw.

Normally I would say we should win but these days Im never so sure lol. I sure hope we pull it out the bag.

Katie S said...

Jim I dont understand what you are saying about

'the site is feeling a little random at the moment in regards to my own personal responses and updating of news pages/comments etc.'

This isn't something ive noticed at all. What do you mean by that?

Anonymous said...

You aren't closing down the blog are you? That would suck big cojones if you are.

Steve said...

Jim theres not point trying to act like you dont know whats being posted. We all know it will be Hotel chocolate on the monday, something from abroad weds and then most weeks friday bits and bobs.

David said...

@beth Jim should do a Jcm Smores DIY feature dont you think.

Mysterio6_19 said...

Dont was your time with the fruit ones Jim they alltaste thesame. I want to see the hot fudge sundae or smores get a run through.

Karen said...

Jim whatever happened to you promising us some more reviews of some smaller UK companies? You haven't unearthed us anything in a while now. Just remember most of us think its just as cool seeing things we havent seen before aswell as the big cheese companies.

Estelle said...

Well if i was ever going to be tempted by a flavour of pop tart then it would be this one but im still not feeling it. I had them every so often as a youngster but I get the feeling my toasted pastry days are long gone. I think the sugar alone might send me in to a coma lol.

Rachel said...

Hey hun. I was more hoping for another cereal review but its also fun seeing you subjected to more pt's. Lol i don't know how you do it, I wouldn't be happy giving up my usual brekkie every day for these things. I guess thats me, im a creature of habit. Sorry for the ramble, have yourself a lovely weekend now.

Great stuff again this week Jim. There isn't anything more to say than that :-)

Tricky said...

They also have unfrosted blueberry ones. You should of had them instead cause your always saying they are too sweet.

Maggy said...

Ive finally got to the conclusion that there isnt a 'right' answer to your ritter question. Im just going to give it my best crack now, ive been thinking about it for days because i really want to win.

Neil said...

More awesome reviews this week J. I like the way you are varying up the kinds of chocolates and cakes you are reviewing. It keeps us on our toes not knowing whats coming.

Duncan said...

I think its much better us not knowing whats being posted. I find it a nice surprise myself, I wouldn't want to know each day beforehand.

Warren said...

God you are so lucky trying all the pop tarts. Lol I dont know if im reading this right but I get the feeling that you dont like them.
I think its easy to tell that you arent their greatest fan just by the way you write about them saying that they 'get sent to you' rather than you asking for them. You are probs now going to tell me that im wrong.

Rodzilla said...

strawberry, blueberry, and brown sugar cinnamon will forever be the big 3 IMO. Classic.

Thea said...

Ugh. I love blueberries but I draw the line at them frosted in Pop Tarts.
@Mark Yep put more politely India's been a major disappointment :( but I'm guessing England would be tired too if they'd recently won the World Cup. Maybe one day we'll even find out ;)

Hi All

I hope you have all had good weekends. I've had another busy one myself so not had much a chance to catch up with some of the stuff I need to do on the site.

What's great is that it seems you are all more than happy to help each other out and answer the odd question between yourselves! Very helpful indeed - please keep doing this :D The more interaction going on between each other means the easier my job is haha :D

NICK - Well you may be surprised by tomorrow haha

CRAIG - The day that Pop Tarts qualify as a superfood I think will be the same day we know the world has gone nuts :D

ANDY - Yes I can. Requests noted.

MARK - I did watch the cricket on Friday yes. It was a great run chase by England but I felt sorry for India not winning a single game. A lot of the ODIs were very close.

ANON - The Cheetos request has been logged don't you worry.

NIGEL - I will be at the Spurs vs Liverpool game today. I will give you a full update Monday.

DARREN - I don't think they have been sent along in my latest package but i will request them next time around.

LINZ - Milka is proving to be a little hard for me to source at the moment. I'm looking in to it don't worry, no issues with Milka or Kraft.

BETH - I hadn't seen that. Nice spot.

STEVE - See what I said to Nick :D

MYSTERIO - I better review these hot fudge sundae ones soon judging by the requests.

KAREN - You may well want to see what I have in store next week ;)

WARREN - I dont mind the odd pop tart but I wouldn't want them everyday no.

RODDY - I was fan of the brown sugar cinnamon.

THEA - Poor you supporting India. Don't worry, I'm sure it will be a lot more in your favour in the south continent. That will level things up a whole lot more.

Thanks everyone.

JIM
