Mars Triple Choc - See HERE
Thorntons Bakewell Tart - See HERE
Quality Street My Purple Bar - See HERE

The arrival of a new season has brought about vast amounts of NPD - being totally honest with you guys I could have filled these slots several times over with various other products sent my way in the last week or so. You will notice today that I even managed to fill 'Snack of the Week' with another new set of products from Lily O'Briens.

Suffice to say it is really busy times for me at the moment. The site is attracting a record number of visitors and comments and I can only thank all of you who continue to provide constant feedback and your own thoughts on whatever I'm reviewing.

Please do make sure you are visiting the site regularly and contributing. You are what make the site worth the effort so please endeavor to spread the ChocolateMission word. As a side note the ChocolateMission Twitter feed is being used more and more by myself - Sign up to it HERE.

SNACK OF THE WEEK ..... a new part of '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' which will feature any manner of snacking product I have been products munching on in the week

As I stated above in my Site Update today, Snack of the Week consists of yet another two new products you should be seeing appear on retailer shelves near you soon. Indeed, Lily O'Briens have decided to extend it's recently launched 'Uglies' range further afield than it's Irish homeland and extend distribution to the UK. This Uglies range consists of two varieties - Their Honeycomb Crunch and Cocoa Cookies. I was lucky enough to receive some single pack samples of both - my very brief thoughts on them are below:

Lily O'Brien's Honeycomb Crunch
Kcal ??? Fat ??? Carbs ???

'Honeycomb and wheat scrunchies smothered in milk chocolate'

This single piece 20.0g chocolate looked appetitisng split in half and there was evidence of copious amounts of both the promised honeycomb and wheat cereal pieces. Essentially this was very similar in proposition to the Cadbury Crunchie Clusters (See HERE) and frankly it didn't taste that far apart from them either. The chocolate was obviously differentiated from the Cadbury alternative in that it was a touch less sugary but with less distinctive in it's milky taste - the melt was also a lot thinner in comparison to Dairy Milk. Chocolate aside the honeycomb and cereal delivered exactly in line with expectations - sweet honey led flavors burst out from their respective crunchy crisp textures. Pleasant but frustratingly small and moreish.

6.8 out of 10

Lily O'Briens Uglies Cocoa Cookie
Kcal ??? Fat ??? Carbs ???
'Cocoa cookie pieces smothered in milk chocolate'

This was another 20.0g single piece chocolate that was very similar to above not only in proposition but also product delivery. In a nutshell this simply swapped the honeycomb and wheat cereal, for chocolate biscuit pieces. In terms of taste these Uglies Cocoa Cookie chocolates were far less sweet than the above and their chocolatey flavour impact left a longer lasting impression in the mouth. The flavour longevity was longer, however their small size subsequently made them similarly unsatisfying.

7.2 out of 10

Hey forget what I say :D What do I know :D You know I'm always keen to hear what you guys make of these. Drop me a line with your thoughts I'm interested to hear from you.

Maybe your going to correct me but I thought the whole point of snack of the week was that you featured something random you enjoyed eating in the last 7 days?
I'm not having a go or anything but I don't remember the last time you wrote about something you enjoyed lol.

You should change snack of the week up and a bit and review some different kind of foods. Are you afraid you wont be as good at reviewing that sort of thing?

Thanks for the review this week Jim. It's amazing you managed to find so many new chocolates to put up this week. Looks to me like these companies introduce all their chocolates at the same time for some reason. I wonder why that is?

Lol nothing ever gets past you does it Jimbo! Are you always looking out for these new things or do you come across them by luck all the time? You must be looking out for them for sure casue I never luck out and just find them.

Those packs look so childish I wouldn't be caught dead buying one of them.

I was impressed with the hattrick of new products but four in a row is mighty impressive buddy. I'm rather curious as to what Monday brings now :)

Will you be able to keep the streak going I wonder? I already know what you are going to say to that btw.

I wish I still had friends living in Ireland :( They always used to send me over bars of dairy milk when I asked them to. Its so much better than the stuff we have to put up with here (I like in England btw).

I saw your review of the Irish Dairy Milk an thought it was pretty much spot on. I would have been brave enough to give it a higher rating but I understand why you didn't as its going to down the individual as to whether they like the thicker feel.

Your review was so right! The new mars bar is imense.

Im probably over thinking this but why are they called Uglies? I see someones called them dog turds (LMAO btw!!) but personally I don't think they look bad at all. There are far worse looking chocolates imo.

No one does reviews of new things quicker than Jim does. Thanks mate.

Do you ever bother updating the news page any more? When you first started it I remember you doing it everyday but then you stopped.

Lol its such a load of arse. You have to wonder where these people get their inspiration.

Daisy said...

Its so blatant these have been made for children. Its perhaps not the relevant how you rate them Jim. I'm thinking they have been made for little people with smaller tummys than yours lol.

Its nice to know I can mark these out as ones I should be avoiding. They don't look horrible but they don't sound anything special either.

Fran said...

I don't think I've ever seen something on here made by these people that I would want to try. As far as im concerned ireland can keep a hold of LOBs for now.

Hey J

No Sneijder in at united them Jim? You must have been disappointed with that, it looked for all the money on the cards the whole time. Speaking of footie, did you see England last night? I thought they were well impressive. Ashley Young and Rooney have quite the formidable partnership already.

Cheers
N

Well bang goes my theory that all SOTW things have to be made in america ;) lol the only thing tieing them together when I look at all the old ones is that you got them in the US and that american soda company you bang on about.

Lucy said...

I dont like football but even I was impressed by england last night. I like watching them when they are on. I'm a girl with british passion at heart you know :) Excuse my randomness there but I know you like your football ;) Jim.

Terry said...

Do you still want us to send through new stories fella? There are a few ive come across in the past two days that you might want to post up for everyone :) Ones to do with your favourite company ever nestle lol :p

Pell said...

The website for those Uglies things is pretty well designed for such crappy chocs. Lol honestly take a look its pretty swish for such a small line that isn't going to stay around.

Lu said...

Regarding the ugly things I don't see them turning up any trees. For starters they don't look anything special and if you say they taste as average as they do then they are hardly going to have anyone come back for more. I keep saying this too often but you just wonder why they bother half the time.

TeamFedfan said...

The big news for me yesterday was that I finally got one of those bloomin triple chocolatey mars bars to try.
My thoughts on it were mirror image your own but I think your rating was to high for the mars to begin with (7/10 is more realistic to me).

Justin said...

Just give up on LOBs Jimbo. You've not ever rated any of their chocolates high. They are just annoying and taking up your review time. Forget about them now please.

Emily said...

Before anyone checks and calls me up on it I know im guilty of asking Jim to review these. Sorry! They looked nice on their website.

Marian said...

You should have just given up after the mars bar you had on Monday. Everything else hit the skidders in terms of scores lol.

Rog said...

I would try the ones with honeycomb in but I would be less bothered by the silly cocoa biscuit one. The word generic says everything about that one I think.
