October 22nd: '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' - Editiion 91 - Hotel Chocolat Yumpkin

SITE UPDATE

Hi All,

It's been another long working week at my day job so I again must apologise for the lack of a review yesterday. There would have been no way for me to check that the content was all correct or allow comments to get through so I thought best to save the review for a different time. In case you missed them we had two posts entertaining us (hopefully anyway haha!) this week.

Hotel Chocolat Munch it - Crunch it - See HERE
Kellogg's Krave Chocolate Caramel & Krave Totally Chocolatey - See HERE

Next week I hope the posting schedule will return to normal (Monday/Wednesday/Friday), I just hope my recent three post a week failings haven't lost me too many readers :D Just so you know I haven't been 100.0% lazy this week :D the news page has been updated - See HERE. If you have any further stories to contribute please get in contact.

Next week I'm sure a lot of you will be pleased to hear that the rest of the Halloween reviews will land on the site. I wont spoil what you will see but there is a good representation from several different brands.

Enjoy your weekend everyone - thanks for your continued support of the site.

JIM

SNACK OF THE WEEK ..... a new part of '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' which will feature any manner of snacking product I have been products munching on in the weekHotel Chocolat Yumpkin

Ladies & Gentlemen - due to popular demand and I'm glad to announce that the Hotel Chocolat Halloween 2011 reviews START NOW!!! :D Indeed, after receiving a deluge of reader requests I'm finally in a position to offer you guys my views on some of the new additions to the Hotel Chocolat range this year. I have to say guys, it's been a terrible process to have to go through - I'm sure you will all be glad to hear I have made it through these tough times :D

Snack of the Week just had to be this Hotel Chocolat Yumpkin chocolate which has been gracing my work desk being slowly nibbled away at. Described as a hollow milk chocolate pumpkin, this one was more about it's funky design and look rather anything ground breaking chocolate wise. It broke my heart breaking into the smiley faced little man, but the urge for the chocolate became too much by Monday mid-afternoon :D The chocolate itself was actually a different recipe in terms of it's cocoa percentage (35.0% vs the standard 40.0%!) but it was still pretty much gave the same experience with it's cream based sweet milky cocoa flavours ever progressive. Tasty, fun looking and a sensible price - it sounds like good Halloween gifting to me!

7.9 out of 10

Woop woop. Good to hear the halloween reviews are coming. For the last few days I thought you might not be doing them this year or something. Better late than never lol ;)

You contradict yourself so often. If thorntons had made this you would of had a go at them for making something with a silly charater. Just because this was made by hotel chocolat you see the 'fun' side of it.

Awwwww mr yumpkin the chocolate pumpkin is so cute <3 <3 <3 I want one I want one.

All the halloween confections are so boring this year. They are either the same as last year or just plain and mundane.
Have you seen the cadburys hollow heads? All they are is hollowed out milk chocolate with a witch picture on the foil wrapper it comes in. Talk about tacky crap.

Nick said...

Wait!!!!!! Chocolate reviewing isn't your main job????? lol only kidding ya. I betcha think it would be awesome if it was though.

David said...

Cool reviews this week jimbo but didn't you short change us one? Lol only joking m8, I hope your work gets less stressful for you. What is it you do again?

Stacey said...

An HC milk chocolate thing that isn't 40% cocoa? Now thats not right. What they up to there!?

Hey Jim

You looking forward to your big derby then? I think it has the makings of being a great game lol even im looking forward to it. Pool have a thankless task this week playing norwich. If we we win its no big wup cause we are expected to. If we dont then it will supposedly be a 'shock result' which I dont think is fair saying about norwich cause they have looked good in recent weeks.

Im looking forward to seeing what other chocolates you got sent from hotel choc. I hope its a case of you starting off with the worst and building up. I know thats the way you usually do these things.

Cheers
N

Omg i think my kids would love one of these each. I will have to keep an eye out for them when I visit town later on. Thanks love.

Im not going to go all out for halloween this year. The trick or treaters can settle for milkybar buttons as far as im concerned. For me its all about Christmas. That is when I will splash my cash on the decent stuff.

I love seeing the reviews of the smaller bits that HC make. I cant afford to buy big slabs so seeing your views on the cheaper more affordable stuff is loads more relevant to me. Keep up your great work Jim. Im still reading everyday.

My aim today is to buy thekrave cereals to try. you got me Kraving them now lol

Golden_Touch said...

Oh wow this is a first. I don't think I can recall seeing HC use a weaker cocoa % than 40%.
I hope this isnt' a sign of things to come, I wouldn't like to think they are lowering the quality of some of their products. That would be a real shame if this was the first of many. Its something to keep an eye on.

Phew im glad to see you post Jim. I got so worried when you didn't yesterday. I thought something awful had happened.

Halloween is such a nonsense. Its just a stupid holiday that the americans big up so they can cash in commercially. If it were up to me I would just let it pass by without a moments recognition.

Snack of the week = cutie pie :) :) :) Can I nominate something for next weeks one pls?

Oh yummy he just looks fantastic. I think its good that not all their chocolates are so serious all the time.

I dont want this to come across as hassling you but I think it would have got lost in all the comments the other day. Please please please can you do some more reviews of hotel chocolat's hot cocoa. I know you have done a few but they have some more flavours out this year (gingerbread!!!!!!). Please do some reviews asap if you can love.

Big game vs Man City tomorrow Jim. How do you feel its going to go? I think Man U are going to lose it.

Michelle said...

This pumpkin is so silly looking I dont think I would have a problem giving it a good whack lol. When it comes to chocolate you could shape the stuff in a mould of mother Theresea and I would still nom it all up without a second thought. Especially when we are talking HC choc lol ;)

Henry said...

I hope things get less busy for you Jim. Dont worry about anything, I think you are still doing a marvellous job.
To be honest if you hadn't said anythingI wouldnt have been able to tell that you had posted less.

Kels said...

So many choccies but so little time!? How is a girl meant to try these all? The only thing im glad of is that we have you showing us the way round them all my dear. I think this pumpkin would make a few smiles, it does look very cute doesn't it =-]

Neil said...

I think its already been requested but please can you do a review of lucky charms usa ifyou can. Im not wrong thinking you do cereal reviews now am I?

That pumpkin chocolate made me laugh out loud in real life lol. It looks hilarious, they must have had a right laugh making that one.

Emily said...

Im going to Hotel chocolat later and I cant see a situation where i leave empty handed. My main problem is I spend too long browsing and I end up getting in a right tiz deciding what to buy.

You have shown us way too many yum looking things its almost impossible to make a decision.

Mo said...

Im sure everyone is expecting that to be given to kids but I would be just as happy as anyone if I was given one of those choccie pumpkins.
At the end of the day its all about the chocolate and how that tastes. If anything its just a bonus if they manage to look as funky cool as this pumpkin does lol.

Dan said...

Have a gd wk end Jimbo. Im already looking forward to your next lot of halloween reviews. One would assume they are all coming next week yeh? You left it l8 in the day but its better we get them now then never at all I guess.

Joel said...

Jim did hotel chocolate manage to send you any of the the halloween slabs? It would be cool getting your score for the milk chocolate vampire dude. He looks just as cool as this pumpkin thing but about x3 the size. More chocolate = better lol.

Linz said...

Yay nice one Jim. This was one of the ones i was considering buying for people. You just confirmed its suitable :)

Yasmine said...

The pumpkin is so cute. I wouldnt be able to eat him, he just looks so innocent with that silly smile =)

Can you review the caramel eye truffles that Hotel Choc have made this yr pls. I have seen some reviews on other sites and they say they are pretty good so it would be interesting to have your perspective on them.

Daisy said...

Top review J. Some interesting stories on your news page this week. Did you not find one about chocolate being good for our health though LOL.

Come on Man City ;) ;) ;)

Kevin said...

Gr8 review Jim but im looking forward to seeing what you have to say about some of the bigger chocs they have going. Please tell me they sent you one of those fifty quid skull chocolates. Talk about excessive chocolate overload, I think it would take me until halloween 2012 to eat one of them.

Ive decided not to bother with halloween treats this year.
Its all about Xmas time if you ask me. Im going to spend big on xmas and I include HC in that.

Stu said...

Wicked reiews this week Jim. The krave one was especially cool.
I dont want to be a moaner but are you going to go back to doing the normal amount of reviews soon? I see recently you stopped doing one on friday :( Thats no gd.

Gamer360 said...

Jim are you planning to review some of the hc advent calendars this year? They look super man

Anonymous said...

I thought you were going to attack them for making a silly looking pumpkin thing. Im not saying they deserved to be but in the past youve been known to be non approving of the serious companies making funnier smaller things. I remember you did that to thorntons once.

Colin said...

Cool! What other halloween chocs are you going to be reviewing from the hotel chocolate clan?
I wish they sent me some stuff to try every year. You lucked out their dude.

Frank said...

Oh no we aren't going to be bombarded by hotel chocolat things are we now :( I think im the only person in the world that doesn't like their chocolate. Its all too rich for me. I find it over powering.

Marshall said...

Thats a curious looking chocolate :) Could they not have made something a little more exciting though? Just a milk chocolate hollow thing sounds a little underwhelming to me. I kinda expect more from someone like Hotel chocolat.

Ana said...

That's a cute little pumpkin. It was very cruel of you to eat it...

I can't feel the holidays coming this year. Not yet. I can't believe it's almost November and I've only tried one Christmas product (Schulte Dominosteine). I've seen Christmas products in stores since late September, but I keep telling myself "later, later..."

BJ said...

I don't go in for all the holiday chocolates that companies make. It is basically the same chocolate they always make (although in this case at 35%, it sounds like lower quality) just shaped to theme the season.

I've seen these Yumpkins instore, but I think they are too expensive to bother with. As with Easter, I wait until the holiday has passed and then get them at the discount price.

Thea said...

argh it ate my comment! here goes again: Despite the extreme cuteness of that chocolate pumpkin he wouldn't last half a day, sitting in front of me! May I do a Richard and ask if you know how much he cost? Cause he's gone from the HC website :(
Also does MWF posting mean SOTW will still be with us? I handle changes well...with advance warning lol. Also thanks so much for sorting out the advertising, it's much nicer now.

Thea said...

PS Is it all right if we post comments on news stories here? I cannot get the comments box to show for me on the news page.

Ray said...

I've never seen that search thing before. Its well good.

Trick-or-treating is just around the corner. To promote healthier treat options for families, chocolate milk is encouraged as a treat for the kids! :)

Hi All

I hope you had good weekends - sorry for my late reply.

I love some of the responses that you guys have left re: the Yumpkin :D He is a cute one isn't he :D

BRUCE - I've not been that impressed by this years stuff either.

DAVID - I'm a man of mystery I couldn't possibly tell you that :D

RACHEL - Request noted! I don't see why I can't do some more hot chocolate ones.

DAN - It is Halloween week I guess. Reviews inbound.

JOEL - You will have to wait and see about that :D

ROG - There are always those sort of stories banding about :D If I wanted to post one I'm sure I could find one :D

STU - I've now changed to a posting system whereby I post when I can. This could mean 3 a week, or it could mean 4!? You will just have to check the site and see I guess :D

GAMER - Advent calendars are a no go. It feels wrong opening them up before the time is right :D

ANA - Don't worry there is still plenty of time yet :D two months to be exact.

BJ - I'm not sure there will be too much stock to clear if their limited selection is anything to go by.

THEA - Feel free to comment where you wish ... within reason of course.

MURRAY - We will see about that chap :D

Thanks everyone - I hope your weekends went better than mine did :D

JIM
