October 8th: '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' - Edition 89 - Mr Kipling Fiendish Fancies

SITE UPDATE + RITTER COMPETITION WINNER

Hi All,

Somehow we have managed to make it 8 days in to October already so the countdowns to Halloween and of course Christmas are well on the way in the confectionery world.

This week we have seen reviews from ...

Toblerone Snow Top - See HERE
'Bits & Bobs' - American Soda Selection - See HERE
Hershey's Payday (Revisited) - See HERE

.... and several of you lovely people have been Re-tweeting and sharing these posts with your friends via Twitter. This of course put you folks in my grand draw for the chance to win some Ritter Sport chocolate, and I can reveal that Twitter user @slay3rx has won this time around. Congratulations - I will be in contact via Twitter to get your prize sent along ASAP.

Coming up next week we have two special posts rather than the three reviews. Monday & Tuesday will be a special one from Hotel Chocolat, and Wednesday we have a special Ritter Sport interview post which will take you up to the weekend. I really hope you enjoy both of those - I eagerly await your feedback.

Have great weekends

JIM

SNACK OF THE WEEK ..... a new part of '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' which will feature any manner of snacking product I have been products munching on in the weekMr Kipling Fiendish Fancies
Kcal 106 Fat 2.7g Fat(sats) 1.2g Carbs 19.5g

The Halloween reviews begin here :D Indeed after several weeks of requests (and even Christmas themed reviews haha!) I have finally wilted to demand and I today bring you my first review for 2011. Reading that back it almost seems like I'm complaing :D as you will go on to read today, reviewing these Mr Kipling Fiendish Fancies was no hard or strenuous task.

These Fiendish Fancies are of course Mr Kipling's famous Fondant Fancies, but with a Halloween lick of paint. Described as 'Orange flavour sponge fancies with a vanilla topping' they cost me a mere £1.00 in Sainsbury's and will of course be available for a limited period until Halloween is done with. Before trying these I hadn't had a Fondant Fancie for years so when it came to the taste test the nostalgic feelings came flooding back. The light vanilla hinted sponge, sweet as sin fruity, chocolatey icing and glorious blob of vanilla cream instantly transported my mind back to kiddie parties I went to in my younger days. I thought these tasted great and they just gave me a nice warm, comforting feeling inside :D I thought Halloween was meant to be scary.

8.1 out of 10

Hey hun. Im totally know what you mean about some foods taking you back to memories of parties you went to when you were small. I get exactly the same feelings when I eat party rings (those biscuits). Speaking of which ..... LOL you know where this is headed. Can we have a party rings review? Pretty pretty plsssss ;)

Phew. Im glad you have started the halloween reviews now. I was wondering if you were going to bother doing any this year cause I know how much you dislike the idea of the day.

Mike said...

Does that person who won actually read the site or are they just another freeloader? I've not seen them comment or anything before.

Hey J

I've only one thing to say about last nights game. What were you thinking Wayne Rooney? I was so so disappointed. Once a thug, always a thug I guess. Its great we qualified but disappointing the way we did it I think.

What did you make of it all?

Cheers

Mmmmmm I want some fiendish fancies now. I like the idea of the icing being orange cause some of the others are just generic and just taste like sugary icing. At least the orange ones have something to them.

You need to review the cinder toffee cadbury cake bars. They are easily the best of all the dodge limited editions they come out with around this time.

Ricky said...

Have you seen they have recently changed the packaging of the cake bars btw? They look tons better now. The caramel and fudge themed ones look ten times better.

I like the sound of these Fiendish fancys. Its been an awfully long time since I last got the chance to wrap my lips around a mr kipling cake. I've been on a gluten free diet for a year or so now and mr kip doesn't do gluten free. Its not out of choice im on this diet btw. Im still to solve all my food intolerance probs but it has been a step forward for me cutting out these sort of foods. It doesn't make me desire them less mind.

Grrrrr another competition I dont win. This is getting so annoying now. I think I must have entered every single one since you started this site and haven't got a sniff of a prize :(

Golden_Touch said...

I spotted the cadbury Halloween heads are on sale again this year Jim. They must have took no notice of your rant about them last year lol.

Some of you people really have to learn some manners. Its not as if Jim HAS to run these competitions you know. You should be thankful that he gives any sort of chocolate away and not complain about it when he does. Get a life.

This year has gone so quick. I can't believe its time for halloween and christmas reviews all over again. Its crazy

Lauren said...

You have given me the hankering for some mr kipling now lol. Its going to have to be either some of his apple pies or some fondant fancie for tea me thinks.

Yasmine said...

Are you going to do us all the pleasure of reviewing some of the fab bakin boys Halloween cakes Jim? They have two new flavours out especially for it. I think they are apple and blackcurrant + choc orange. TBH with you I think they do the choc orange all year round but the apple and black currant could be worth checking out some time.

Too many american products this week Jimbo. I would have kept it to just the bits and bobs and done something else for the Friday one. I know it was probably just coincedence that the review of the old one was yank aswell but still man, two in a row wasn't cool.

Im not saying they weren't good to read btw. I would have just preferred them spaced out better.

Pattra said...

I wish I had some cake in the house now :-/ I really fancy some after reading that.

Claire said...

Great review Jim. You always manage to get me craving whatever your snack of the week is. Lol fondant fancies dipped in sweet tea mmmmm .... lol see what youve done lol.

Why is it always ritter chocolates that you give away? Is it because they are your favourites?

Kieran said...

The FF cakes look great but for me the only cakes you need to buy this halloween are the blackcurrant mini rolls. I remember getting them after seeing the choccie mission recommendation and they were so tasty. Im going to stock up this year before the swines take them away again.

Will said...

Oh no you are back on the cakes lol. Last time i remember you started reviewing things like cake bars we got a whole barrage of them. Please make sure you limit yourself to just a few this time J.

Ross said...

Love SOTW this week Jim. Its been so long since I last had one of those kipling cakes. Im talking decades here love.

Lewis said...

For a minute there I thought you weren't going to do any reviews for Halloween this year. What was it you hate about it so much again?

Jess said...

Now I really want those Fancies :) Damn you...this blog is so bad for diet!

Like you, I haven't had a fondant fancy in absolutely years. My grandma used to buy them for me when I visited at the weekend. This is than I didn't particularly like them - the icing was just too much - but I kept eating them because they looked so fun.

Viennaberry said...

Totally saw these fancies today in town- but I passed them by :'( Looking forward to more halloween reviews && the hotel chocolat reviews coming up :)
