SNACK OF THE WEEK ..... a new part of '7Days of Chocolate Reviews' which will feature any manner of snacking product I have been products munching on in the week
Oreo Chocolate Bar ChestnutKcal ??? Fat ??? Carbs ???
It was my intention to bring you some kind of Guy Fawkes/Bonfire night themed post today but the snack I had in mind turned out to be a little dreadful and not one I wanted to promote as Snack of the Week. Luckily my pals at J-List sent over some of their latest chocolatey snacks and sweets. For the third time this week we have yet another return for an old Chocolate Mission friend.
With so many bits and pieces in the package received I didn't have a clue where to start with it all, but I eventually chose this chestnut flavours Oreo Chocolate Bar. My longer term readers may remember me reviewing a number of different flavours from this range before - Original/Strawberry (See HERE), Green Tea (See HERE), Dark (See HERE) and Coffee Caramel (See HERE). This Chestnut flavoured variety provided much the same experience as many of those did and combined a milky sweet chocolate offering with small bits of lovely, crunchy Oreo biscuit dispersed throughout. The enhancing chestnut element was disappointingly incorporated as a flavouring rather than in nut pieces, however with that said the creamy, buttery yet savoury nuttyness it brought to the party stretched the basic flavour depth of the chocolate and came across as a welcome praline type influence. This bar wasn't the best of the Oreo Chocolate Bar range I have tried, but it proved itself to be a very welcome addition to a mid-afternoon coffee and was in a handy shape for dunking action :D Oreo fans will no doubt enjoy this bar.

Excuse the pun but don't you think its 'nuts' how the Oreo which was originally a Western snack has been most developed by these Eastern ones. They don't even get these bars in the US I dont think.
Chestnut isn't a flavour that immediatedly comes to mind when thinking about flavours but im sure it would be nice enough. If anything its just good to see a nut used that isn't the hazelnut lol.
Mmmmmm Oreo. That bar looks prime for hot chocolate dunking.
If you are reviewing Japanese chocs again please can I put in a special request for some pocky reviews please. Its been sooooooooooo long since you last did any. They have some gorg new flvours out by the looks of it.

Thanks for the reviews this week Jim. Just out of interest what was the snack that didn't make the grade for the bonfire night theme? Was it a popping candy chocolate by anychance lol.
I wish Kraft stop fiddling around with the recipes of our cadbury caramels etc they could pull their fingers out and get some of these wacky Japanese oreo chocolate bars across to us. One expects this wont be a reality anytime soon lol.
I had chocolate creme oreos for the first time ever last night. I didn't think they were as good as the normal ones myself but my sister thought they were better. Its always the same, we never agreee on anyone. I think it drives mum looney.
I thought jlist had stopped selling chocolate stuff. Why have they changed their mind and brought them all back J?
You havent shown us non-nut loving people much love this week Jim. Sort it out son.
Boooo Jim. Im supposed to be cutting back on my internet spending and you just keep encouraging me :P
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think these are sold out now :( Thats so typical. The minute I see something I want to buy they dont have it in.
I do love roasted chestnuts mmmm. Its so annoying you can only buy decent ones at certain points in the year. At least we are coming up to it.
Jim you cannot tease us with a line like 'I was going to review this but it sucked so I didn't' what was it??
I only want to know so I know to avoid if I come across it.
I got some requests if you want to hear them
* Pocky - any would be good but theres some new ones called MART that look cool.
* Meltykiss - i saw you review of them b4 and they sounded nice.
* Kit Kat Chunky - would be great seeing how it matches up to our one and if its any different at all.
* Bourbon Every Burger - this just looks hilarious.
Any of those would be cool.
They haven't gone for conventional flavours with these Oreo bars have they :-) Between the two types of tea + the coffee caramel and now chestnut you cant say they didn't try to give something different.
Thanks for the reviews this week Jim. Your standards dont ever slip :)
Why have they stopped making Kit Kats in Japan? I see they still have the odd one but they are all just plain ones. It was only a year ago they were producing loads and loads of different flavours all the time. If jlist is anything to go by they have just stopped :S Im confused.
What do chestnuts taste like normally? Are they meant to taste like they do here or is this more a gimmicky thing going on.
I was surprised to see the prices that Jlist charge for bars like this one. I know its USD but 2.80 for just one is going to make an order come out bloody expensive after youve thrown the shipping in the mix.
Forget chocolate this weekend. Bonfire night is all about the toffee apples.
Hey hun sorry I wasn't around to comment on the Heavenly cakes review. The small town I lived in had a total internet meltdown I dont understand what went on at all. Its all fixed now anyway so I can catch up with all the reviews. I must mention my jaw dropped when I saw the nomalicious wispa gold and cake pictures. Your head must be getting inflated with all the love but its deserved, they just look so lush.
Rxxx
Ive noticed that nothing from japan ever gets an amazing score. What is the highest thing rated from Japan. Nothing is on the leaderboard from there at all.
im going to say this every week until you start doing it ..... POST MORE OFTEN AGAIN!!!!!!
To do this day ive still never seen a chocolate or snacky thing on here thats made me thing 'I must try that'. Don't get me wrong there have been plenty of ones like this chestnut oreo that I have thought looked nice enough, but as far as paying a lot of money for them I still haven't found something I would say justify the outlay. I'm sure the time will come, thanks for the reviews J.
Whats your association with J list?
That oreo chocolate bar doesn't look as exciting as some of the others you did reviews on. If you compare it to the caramel with coffee it looks so plain dont you think?
This chestnut flavour isn't one I have seen before. I saw the dark chocolate and the english tea versions in cybercandy not long ago but there was so much other stuff I was interested in getting that day they didn't get a look in.
How abouts you do us some sort of japanese snack competition Jim. You have never done one of those before now.
Has anyone come across those chocolate covered oreos yet? They normally bring them out around Christmas time in the shops. I hope they make it out evenutally cause they were so nice to have last year.
Oi Oi!!! Once again you raised my hopes that we had something new and cool coming our way. Im disappointed to see its another one of your jlist specials :( They dont send us free stuffs u know Jim :P
Cool reviews this week Jim. Thumbs up all round from me. A few wispa gold are called for this weekend me thinks.
I had my first ever double stuffed oreo cookie yesterday :) It wasn't as big as I thought it would be but it did make it taste more vanillary which I liked.
Oreo double stuff crumbled over ice FTW.
It is pretty unreal how we struggle to even get some of the normal oreo cookies let alone this chocolate bars. I don't understand why Kraft Nabisco don't make more of Oreo here, it could blates be ten times bigger than it is at the moment. Everyone loves oreos.
Cool reviews this week Jim. Like it was with heavenly on weds, its gd to see you bring Jlist back on JCM.
One thing im definitely asking for Xmas this year is some snacks and chocs from Jlist. I have wanted to order some stuff for them for ages but earlier in the year I kept putting it off and before I knew it they had removed all the chocolate from the site which was tres annoying. Its good to see its all back but I think I will just hold out for Christmas now.
Have a good weekend Jim. Are we having more christmas reviews soon?
You didn't update the news page Jim. I found this one for you btw. I read it in the paper earlier this week but managed to find it online

We always have roasted chestnuts at Christmas mmmm it makes me feel fuzzy inside thinking about them. Peeling them to get to the 'meat' can be a right pain mind.
Its wicked to see you bring all these people back to your blog this week Jim. The japanese chocolates you do the reviews on are always a whole heap of fun to see if only to hear what some of the more weird ones are like. They have such a different world of confectionery than we do, its pretty fascinating to think how varied all our tastes can really be just by living somewhere else. Nice effort mate, keep up the good work.
I have the best idea for a review jim

Can you review that choc beer please :)
What would be cool is if jlist did like a selection pack you could buy with all the diff flavours of these oreo bars in it. That would be so awesome cause you could try all of them in the one go and decide which one you like. It would just save faffing around having to buy them all seperate.
Well done Jim. You deserve all the praise you get m8.
www.koihome.info/after-dinner-chocolates-gold-chasers.html what once was
Roasted chestnuts seem like such a british thing yet it takes the japanese to take them and pair them with chocolate. Sometimes things come across so backwards in this world. Do they even have chestnut trees in japan?
Chestnuts aren't a favourite thing of mine but im willing to try anything if it has Oreos involved. Those biscuits are dangerous in my hands. I would ear them all day if you let me.
Yay it makes sense theyve got stock back in for the holiday season :) I think some japanese snacks might be on my list this again this year. I got some great stuff last time.
My fave review this week was the heavenly cakes one. I cant wait to see what cake of theirs you have done for us next. I will be reading next week thats for sure.
This bar looks wicked. I like the wrapper of it. It would be one that would stand out really well if it was put in amongst all of our boring looking ones.
