This weeks mid-week mini review really is that! We wanted to keep this short and sweet because we want to hear your views on this - @Chocmission is the place for that of course!! .... introducing the NEW Mcvitie's Jaffa Cakes Mini Muffins! These mini sized Jaffa Cake themed muffins have replaced the long standing (and much adored!!) larger sized McVitie's Jaffa Cake Muffin (Review HERE).
We first heard about this downsize initiative in The Grocer magazine last month. Little did we know that when they said 'McVitie's shrink Jaffa Cakes Muffin to mini size' that actually did mean you were going to get less bang for your buck. We remember seeing the original 88.0g muffin on sale for £1.00 - sometimes even cheaper!
Well to our surprise it was the same £1.00 price point that our local supermarket was asking us to pay for these significantly smaller 2 x 25.0g mini muffins!!! We aren't going to deny for one second that the dark chocolate topped, golden sponged, orange jam filled treats weren't still delicious ... they were! But can we honestly say we are impressed that McVitie's asking us all to pay a similar amount for a snack only just over half the size? The same issue is consistent with the equivalent Galaxy muffins that they have all seen fit to downsize.
They could argue that the mini size brings convenience benefits but our response to that would be that they the package they come in isn't that smaller than the original. They could also say they are acting responsibly in regards to kids health, making their child inclined products a more appropriate size!? Our view is that these would both be credible arguments had the pricing been reflective of this - let us know your thoughts folks ... @Chocmission
