August 12th: Kellogg's Pop Tarts Gone Nutty Peanut Butter

We told you all last week that our pals at Manchester Pickers had managed to secure some stock of some of the latest Pop Tarts doing the rounds in the US at the moment - See HERE. As we acknowledged on our review of the Red Velvet flavour, Pop Tarts aren't the immediate focus of the ChocolateMission but the amount of e-mails we have received about reviewing the products coming up in the next few days has been quite unbelievable.

Readers of our site from all different countries have been asking us to review the all NEW Pop Tarts Gone Nutty varieties - both Peanut Butter and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Over the course of the week we will be doing exactly that starting today with the Pop Tarts Gone Nutty Peanut Butter.

'Crunchy peanut butter-flavored crust enveloping a filling made with real, creamy peanut butter and sprinkled with sugar. It's the perfect toaster pastry for peanut butter-lovers'

You wont find many peanut butter lovers bigger than the ChocolateMission team so you can imagine the great excitement when these finally managed to make it to ChocolateMission HQ via the lovely folk at Manchester Pickers (See HERE). The pack and inner pastries caused excitement levels to rise even further - the on-box illustrations accurately showcasing a lavish looking dosage of peanut butter in a pastry lined with brown sugar.

After a quick few minutes in the toaster our kitchen was inundated with the most gorgeous smells known to man - aromas of peanuts and bakery fresh cookies had us foaming at the mouth ala Homer Simpson :-) We've tried dozens and dozens of Pop Tarts flavours down the years but taste wise these really took our enjoyment of these breakfast pastries to whole new levels. The outer pastry was typically sweet in taste and the brown sugar sprinkling added an enjoyable crunchy when bitten in to. The molten hot peanut butter filling side was the X-factor though and it offered all the desired nutty, salty flavours that we were begging for. Two pastries was a decent, satisfying portion, though we could have comfortably tucked in to more.

Overall our mega high expectations for these Pop Tarts Gone Nutty Peanut Butter were met and exceeded. Quite why it's taken Kellogg's so long to bring out a peanut butter flavour range we don't know, but having tasted the first of the two we are delighted they have. Critics of Pop Tarts (including ourselves) often point towards the flavours having a 'samey generic Pop Tarts' taste, but this is not something applicable here. It's going to be interesting to see what we make of the addition of chocolate in to the mix - will it be for the better or worse? Who knows!? What we do know is that these Pop Tarts Gone Nutty Peanut Butter are awesome! Get involved right now!
