August 26th: Hotel Chocolat Cocoa Cuisine - Hazelnuts & Nibs / Milky Drinking Chocolate

Once again our pals at Hotel Chocolat have been overly kind and sent us a mega amount of products to sample. A few weeks ago we introduced you all to their new Cocoa Cuisine range with our thoughts on their Salted Caramel Chocolate Spread and their new Cocoa Grower Biscuits - See HERE. Well in that same sampling package we were also placed with two further Cocoa Cuisine products that we've given our quick ruling over today. We hope you enjoy these mini-reviews and hope that they give you a good oversight of some of the newest Hotel Chocolat offerings.

One of the beauties of this new Hotel Chocolat range is that some of the products are totally new innovations and not the sort of foodstuffs you would immediately relate to chocolate. One of the most perfect examples of this are these Hotel Chocolat Hazelnuts & Nibs - an item that HC say are a 'perfect accompaniment for aperitifs, cocktails, wine, beer and sherry'. The 150.0g tub contained a mixture of 'piedmont hazelnuts, roasted cocoa nibs and a pinch of salt' and we taste tested in a few different contexts. Our findings were frankly consistent despite what ever we paired it with as it provided the same delicious chocolate nut flavour sensations in contexts. The pureness of the cocoa flavours were amazing - rich, earthy, powerful and delivered in a savoury based taste. Warning to you all that the dash of salt makes the mixture ever so moreish - a tub isn't going to last you all that long. This Hotel Chocolat Hazelnuts & Nibs mix proved itself to be both a versatile snack and cooking aide - definitely worthy of a place in any chocolate lovers kitchen.

The 'Great Taste Gold Award 2013' sticker placed on the front of the packaging was an unnecessary badge of credibility for us here at ChocolateMission. We already knew how amazing the Hotel Chocolat drinking chocolates are - take a look at our reviews of some of their hot chocolate mixtures from previous years - See HERE. Whilst we needed no convincing the we of course had no qualms whatsoever making up a few cups of this '50% milk chocolate and 50% dark chocolate' dry mix. As ever the process to achieving the hot chocolate heaven did require a deal of effort slowly melting the dry mixture into milk on the hob however if you asked every team member whether it was effort worth undertaking the unanimous ruling would be an all round yes. To really understand quite how much better this hot chocolate is versus your standard Options or Cadbury hot chocolate instant mixes you have to try it. You have to be prepared to put a little bit of effort into the preparation but the chocolate drink you get for your trouble surpasses anything you can buy in the likes of Costa or Starbucks etc. We don't often commit ourselves like this but we can promise you that the effort to pay-off ratio is very much worth it. Forget Taste Awards, this is ChocolateMission recommended :-)
