Kcal 226 Fat 13.2g Carbs 23.0g (per bar)
As any ChocolateMission fan knows, thoroughness is the name of the game for us here on this site. If we are going to claim to have found 'the best chocolate bar in the world' then we are going to have to try them all! Going by that philosophy has seen us try Kit Kats from all over the globe - UK, Germany, USA, Hungary, Japan, Australia - Nestle's Kit Kat brand is probably one of the most globally recognised. Last November we tried out three Kit Kat Chunkys White, Caramel and Hazelnut - See HERE. Since this time the Nestle Bulgaria (based in Sofia!) have added this Kit Kat Chunky Peanut Butter to their range - was it as good as the UK bar???
As with the previous Bulgarian Kit Kat Chunkys we reviewed this bar came in a 42.0g format and was noticeably less 'chunky' and flatter than our UK version. Quite what Nestle Bulgaria are thinking putting a Kit Kat in a blue wrapper we don't know - the new style really doesn't lend itself well to the Kit Kat brand. Aesthetically, apart from the noticeable size discrepancy the bar looked and smelt like the UK version - nutty and with a very nice looking orangey peanut filling sitting on top of the wafer.
The UK peanut butter bar is one we frequent often so making a comparison between this Bulgarian version and what we used to came rather naturally. From the very first bite there were certainly noticeable differences and they came in both taste and texture. The glaring thing that stood out straight away was the mouth feel created by the bite into the bar, and subsequent melting phase. The peanut contents had made the bar very greasy and hampered both wafer and chocolate making the former less crispy and the later a little slimy. Taste wise we can't complain about the peanut butter filling - it was very forthcoming in salty nut flavours, though again both the wafer and chocolate elements felt less substantial in the overall taste due to its dominance.
Overall the tone of the review may come off like we thought this was an awful chocolate bar but that would be untrue. The majority of us that tasted it still thought it was a decent enough offering, however because we are used to a superior Kit Kat Chunky Peanut Butter experience from our UK bar we couldn't help but notice the obvious flaws. The peanut butter element to this Chunky was frankly less enhancing of the wafer and chocolate elements, thus we simply can't rate it as highly as we have done the British version. We feel good to have tried yet another Kit Kat variety, but its not one we will be rushing back to purchase again given the ease at which we can buy a superior version.
