April 30th: AmericanSoda Special - Cap'n Crunch & Oreo Snacks

Our friends over @AmericanSoda have been busy of late gathering up all of the newest and coolest American snacks that aren't readily available to us here in the UK and Europe. A few weeks ago we looked at how the NEW Nestle Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups stacked up against the legendary Reese's Peanut Butter Cups - See HERE. Contained within that very sampling package we also received the two 'snack-pack' products you will see - the first being Quaker's Cap'n Crunch Treats Peanut Butter and the second Kraft's Oreo Handi-Snacks. We luckily got sent the 6 count multi-packs for both of these so there was just about enough to share round the team.

Although we love them and regularly consume them, cereal bars here in the UK tend to be very similar. Nature Valley, Kellogg's, Jordan's etc etc, they all seem to offer the same fruit, nut and cereal mixes just in different wrappers. You can imagine the excitement then when the team lay eyes on these Cap'n Crunch Treats Peanut Butter (made by the worldwide cereal giant Quaker). Combining some of the team's favourite ingredients - peanut butter, chocolate and rice cereal these bars sounded like a nice change from the norm and so they proved to be. The 24.0g bars instantly gave a nutty set of aromas when unsealed from their attractive orange foil wrappers with the on-pack illustrations providing an accurate representation of the reality. The bars yielded relatively easily to the bite, with the rice cereal fused together by a thin syrup coating. When being chewed the bar offered three core flavour components - savoury cereal, roasted nut and sweet chocolate. The combination of these three made for a highly versatile taste that most of us ultimately enjoyed. Criticism wasn't absent from the feedback though with some saying the chocolate influence could have been stronger and others disappointed at the small size. The overall verdict was that these were well worth a purchase if your a PB lover.

We all know Kraft are never shy when it comes to extending the Oreo brand but before today we had never seen or heard of these very cool Handi-Snacks. Looking at the back of the box they came in this may be due to the fact that the rest of the Handi-Snacks range features savoury snack varieties with cheese dips - Ritz and Mister Salty just to name two. Well thank heavens someone had the common sense to get Oreo in on the Handi-Snacks range - combining 'cookie sticks and creme dip' these sounded like an excellent idea and having tasted them we can certainly confirm that! Each 28.0g pack contains 6 Oreo sandwich cookie sticks that can be dipped in a small complimentary soft Oreo creme dips. The team consumed these during various snack occasions and each to a man had nothing but positive things to say. One of the team described these as the 'crack' version of Dairylea Dunkers (see HERE non-UK readers!) and lauded the 'epic moreishness' of the creme dip. Unfortunately as with the cereal bars above there were a few comments that they weren't big enough but by and large the team loved these. Oreo fans will certainly want to get involved with these.
