@AmericanSoda never like to leave us starved of American snacks and sweets for too long so this week they treated us to another sampling parcel full of Yankee treats. One of the newest products they've come to stock recently are these Gardner's S'mores bars. For my non-US readers the Wiki explanation of S'mores will inform you that they are 'a traditional night time campfire treat popular in the United States and Canada, consisting of a roasted marshmallow and a layer of chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of graham cracker'. In light of this definition the on-pack description of 'marshmallow and ‘graham cracker covered in our creamy milk chocolate' offered by Gardner's had us thinking they were on the right track.

These Gardner's S'mores bars come in a 42.0g size and are the equivalent to a Cadbury Double Decker in dimensions. The wrapper cuts quite an old-school look - we were 50/50 on whether it had retro appeal or just look dated, you can decide for yourselves on that one. The bar inside the foil confines looked appetising and the clear layering differentiation when it was cut into clearly showed the three distinction between the thick outer milk chocolate, biscuit base and marshmallow filling.

When opening the wrappers the most immediate set of scents to hit our senses were sweet chocolatey smells. Looking at the thickness of the outer chocolate that will probably come as no surprise - it was definitely the most heavily portioned of the three bar elements and it resultingly dominated the taste for the majority of the experience. The quality of the chocolate was pretty middle road - it was quite sugary and milk dairy focused in flavour but it was good in the sense it allowed expression of the vanilla hinted mallow and buttery biscuit. The real enjoyment for us of this bar was the differentiation of textures - you had melting chocolate, chewy soft mallow and crunchy base biscuit. It made for an interesting mouth feel and one that was relatively unique.

Overall we enjoyed this bar and would offer it as a more than capable option for any American snack food lovers. Making your own S'mores is obviously the way to go if you have the time and dedication to your snacking enjoyment :-) but if it's a quick fix option you are after we can suggest you can go very little wrong with this S'mores number from Gardner's. One thing we will note/warn you about is the suggestion by Gardner's on the wrapper to pop it the microwave for 3-5 seconds! Take it from us folks ... this did not deliver the same results as our recent baked Kit Kats experience :-) Messy messy messy! Worth a try for all S'mores fans.
