It may be all over in Rio for our football team but sports fans don't you worry - Wimbledon is on the way!!
To get us in the mood for the next two weeks of SW19 we've been treating ourselves to the returning Cadbury Dairy Milk Strawberries & Creme limited edition! Yes folks it's back - you should be able to find it in most major UK supermarkets (on a cheeky £1.00 offer if you are lucky!)
If you are a fan of the combo and Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate we suggest getting right involved with this chocolate! Let us know if you think it is one of Cadbury's better limited editions @ChocMission
Check out our original review of the bar below back in May 2013!
Original review May 2013
After reading about its existence only little over a week ago we today got our hands on the latest limited edition Cadbury Dairy Milk variety. This new flavour has been created with the season in mind - Wimbledon, Pimms, beaches, BBQs and now Cadbury Dairy Milk Strawberries & Creme!! The first four on that list are all traditional hallmarks of the Great British summer! The question we had was whether this new Cadbury offering could pull-off being worthy mentioning alongside them, or whether it was just a gimmicky limited edition they thought they could slip in to boost those summer sales!?
The 120.0g bar will be on sale in all the usual Cadbury carrying distribution outlets from June 2013 and we have been reliably informed that it should be launching most places with a £1.00 price point. The wrapper is presented in the traditional Cadbury Dairy Milk style - a resealable plastic packet material carrying the usual branding and colour styles synonymous to the rest of the Dairy Milk range. Additionally we thought the communication of the Strawberry & Creme flavouring was well established with the pink secondary colouration, clear on-pack visuals and accurate depiction of the bar inside. The back of packet described the bar as 'Milk chocolate with a yoghurt strawberry flavour filling'. We at first questioned whether the name was somewhat misleading, though on reflection we understood how Cadbury would have thought that the name 'Strawberries & Creme' was more appealing to a UK consumer than perhaps 'Strawberry Yoghurt' ... we'll let them off :-)
Lobbing our marketing hats to one side, the taste test followed though we must first make reference to the lovely fruity smells that greeted us upon unsealing the wrapper. We've previously found strawberry flavoured chocolates can have off-putting artificial fruity aromas however the ones emanating from this chocolate were mostly well received and set good expectations. As you can see from the photo the on-pack visuals were pretty accurate with the filling taking up a good proportion of each of the blocks. This thankfully didn't take away from the usual Cadbury Dairy Milk experience being established from the outset of the chocolate melt with familiar sweet, creamy cocoa flavours forthcoming early on. Upon revelation of the centre the strawberry element took hold of the taste and presented a decent red berry influence that was tempered in terms of sweetness by an undercurrent of creamy yoghurt. The balance between sweet, realistic strawberry fruit and slight yoghurt cream tangyness was surprisingly accomplished and made the chocolate moreish yet satisfying when eaten in a sensible portion size. We found a third of a bar each was just about the right amount.
Overall despite Cadbury's relative inexperience in fruit flavoured chocolates, the Cadbury Dairy Milk Strawberries & Creme does a good job on delivering what it promises. To be honest we weren't quite so sure what to expect considering we were inevitably going to be comparing it to the likes of Ritter Sport and Thorntons who have both provided very notable offerings in this area already. To our delight we found this latest Cadbury limited edition to be well worthy of a mention alongside those very bars. We wouldn't for one minute like to give you the impression that its as special as some of the staple Cadbury Dairy Milk flavours like the Caramel or Wholenut bars, however in terms of doing a job as a decent enough limited edition it certainly meets expectations. Given that fact and for the reason that its hardly going to be denting pockets we suggest you give it a try if it sounds like something you would be interested in. We look forward to hearing your feedback at the usual place - @Chocmission.
