It is scary how quickly a year goes by, but fortunately October is just the time to be spooked out. Halloween is just around the corner and soon vampires, werewolves, and zombies will be knocking at your door with that well-known ultimatum: trick or treat.
Halloween at our house used to end in one of two scenarios: we forget to buy any sweets and get flocks of kids coming round or we buy loads of sweets and no one comes at all. In the case of the latter we were then left with lots of sweets that we have no interest in ourselves. Experience has taught us to play the game a bit smarter. Instead of buying cheap sweets we don’t like, we go to the effort of buying something nice, so if no one turns up, we can enjoy eating them ourselves.
Cue Belfine’s Halloween Long Pops. Experimenting with a new style, Belfine has decided to slim down the width of their usual lollipops and go vertical. This is a slight bit of visual deception; it looks like you are getting more, but at 23g long pops actually weigh 6g-11g than their counter-parts. Another slight flaw is that the lollipop sticks do not go all the way through the chocolate, but stop at the first pumpkin; consequently, when I took it out of the pocket, two thirds of the chocolate snapped off.
Despite that, Belfine’s Halloween Long Pops look stunning, and manage to look creepy, comical, and cute all at the same time. Children will particularly enjoy seeing the pumpkins change form. As you suck them, the pumpkins change from their traditional round shape to something more like a pointy witch’s hat; this makes the pumpkins’ expression change as well, which is quite amusing. Made with a mixture of dark, milk, and white chocolate, the white chocolate performs the crucial role of making our smiling pumpkins their traditional orange hue.
Taste-wise, these lollipops are slightly sweeter than some of Belfine’s other products because there is a greater proportion of white chocolate. It is just the right amount though, and it retains its smooth creamy texture. They make the perfect treat for your trick or treaters, your kids, or yourself.
