As well as Lindt’s regular Lindor collection, occasionally limited edition boxes come out during particular times of the year. Strawberries and Cream was first released in summer 2014 as part of a promotion for Wimbledon Tennis, but I have now seen it again on the shelves of Sainsbury’s. Although still classed as limited edition, the fact that Wimbledon is months away suggests Lindt has dropped the tennis association. At first I though the re-release quite random, but on second thought, it probably had to do with Valentine’s Day.
For the past several weeks I have been very good resisting temptation to put the box in my trolley, but this week my mum popped in and decided to buy them for me as a treat, so all good intentions went down the drain. Once I get my hands on a box of Lindor, they don’t usually last long.
The truffles have an alluring aroma and really do smell like freshly sliced strawberries dipped in full fat cream. The flavour is a bit disappointing as the strawberries have an artificial taste. This is because the truffles only contain 0.4% strawberry powder per 100g, so what you taste is strawberry flavoured sugar rather than actual strawberry. The sweetness from cream, however, is very satisfying.
The truffle is very light and fluffy, with a thick white chocolate shell, but the filling does not provide the same hedonistic melt in the mouth experience that you get with the regular Lindor selections. While Strawberries and Cream is a nice addition to the collection, I would never choose it over a milk or dark Lindor box, and won’t miss it when its limited edition status brings its presence to a close.
