American Soda has once again been kind enough to provide some more goodies for us to try here @ChocolateMission. Today’s treat is Hershey’s Skor bar, which is classed as ‘delicious milk chocolate’ with ‘crisp butter toffee’. When I first saw the font, I couldn’t help feel that it had a distinctly Nordic appearance, and a little research led me to find out that the crown logo is the Swedish national emblem and Skor is a Swedish word meaning ‘shoes’. Quite why this chocolate bar should be associated with footwear, I have yet to determine. The dark packaging makes the product look rather dull and serious, but the bar itself looks quite attractive with its toffee filling and relatively thick chocolate coating.
The milk chocolate has a slightly grainy texture, but one that is surprisingly pleasing. It reminds me of the chalky texture you get with 100% cacao. Of course, the cocoa solids in this bar are very low, but it still provides lovely sweet notes of vanilla. You can easily scrape the chocolate coating off with your teeth, leaving a clean and glossy finish to the hard toffee filling. The toffee has a beautiful buttery flavour, but it is not something that is going to melt in your mouth. Hard yet brittle, it easily snaps in half and gives plenty of crunch.
Despite only weighing in at 39g, the Skor bar’s rich buttery flavour makes it quite filling and didn’t leave me with any cravings afterwards. It definitely deserves its crown and royal seal of approval.
