This will be our second (and third) look at Madecasse @ChocMission. Last time I thought the Toasted Coconut was a disappointment and was not planning to buy any more from the range. Sainsbury’s, however, had the rest of the selection all on special offer with a mighty £1-£2 reduction, so it seemed like a good opportunity to try again.

Today I will see how the 80% Coca and Sea Salt & Nibs fare. Although I do not find the colours as appealing as on the Toasted Coconut bar, the presentation is excellent and very fitting for the for the ingredients and Fair Trade Theme. While the 80% Cocoa has a smooth sheen finish, salt and cacao nibs are scattered across the surface of the latter bar. This does make it prone to mess-making, as the bits fall off when you break the segments. It does add pleasant crunchiness to the bar though.

The 80% Cocoa has a beautifully deep aroma of summer berries and red wine. It tastes very earthy with hints of sour fruit and is absent of any bitterness. On the downside, the chocolate does have a bit of a chalky texture, but because you only need a small quantity per sitting for feel satisfied, it is not enough to become sickly.

The Sea Salt & Nibs, on the other hand, has a rather clinical smell, without much hint of salt or cocoa. There are unexpected notes of lemon, but only a faint and underwhelming saltiness. This does grow stronger as an aftertaste, but the fact that the bar is labelled as containing 0g salt suggests that a tiny tad more could do with being added, even if it is just by 0.1g.
