With winter just around the bend Lindt has brought out a new ‘limited edition’ seasonal box of Lindor truffles. I have used apostrophes because what they are calling limited edition is actually available all year round. Lindor Hazelnut has been around for years (as can be seen from Jimmy’s review back in 2008) and can be found inside assorted boxes of Lindor. The only difference here is that hazelnut truffles now have a box all to themselves. If the hazelnut flavour is your favourite in the range, then this is a good opportunity to stock up and indulge, but otherwise, there’s no need to rush out and get them before they disappear off the shelves.
As always, Lindor’s truffles are beautifully presented, and are given a flourish of white and gold sparkly designs on the box to give that wintery Christmas feel. The only thing that distinguishes them from the milk truffles is the speckled appearance on the surface of the chocolate, created by the hidden hazelnut pieces underneath.
It has a light nutty flavour that grows stronger over time. The ganache is quite sweet and reminds me a bit of condensed milk, but overall there is not a huge difference in taste from the original milk. The small nut pieces did not disrupt the texture smooth ganache filling, but neither did it add anything to the experience. While very nice to eat, I can’t help feel they could have been better and more distinctive. A whole hazelnut surrounded by ganache and an outer shell would have made them that extra bit special.
