Returning to what is probably the country’s most famous and popular high street brand, Cadbury Dairy Milk’s latest Big Taste bar is the Peanut Caramel Crisp. Retailing at £3 this 300g bar makes a big statement by its use of bold colours and an emphasis on the picture, which shows the chocolate ‘bursting’ to life from the wrapper.

Each row contains three square, which have been decorated with monkey nut moulds. The chocolate gives off a strong aroma of peanut butter, hinting at the contents inside (if the name didn’t give it away first). The filling tastes of sweet peanuts and vanilla and has the texture of fudge. Due to the filling, this makes the chocolate coating itself very thin; it acts like the bread of a peanut butter sandwich. Directly underneath is a thin layer of caramel with a whole peanut in the centre, giving a bit of a crunch. The main filling is more a sweetened peanut paste than peanut butter, as it does not have the same sticky consistency.

The mixture of sweet and saltiness makes the chocolate quite moreish, and you will likely find yourself getting through half the bar before becoming conscious of the fact. It then comes down to will power to wrap the other half up and save some for another day.
